What kind of man am I?[edit]General details[edit]I am an PhD candiate (inorganic chemistry/materials science) at Dalhousie University that enjoys the Lord of the Rings, meteorology (especially hurricanes), and more. I live in Nova Scotia, specifically on the Eastern Shore (surprise!). While I have travelled far and wide throughout Nova Scotia, my itinerary has taken me to every Canadian province east of Manitoba at some time or other. And, if you consider my travels throughout the Canadian Maritimes, I can honestly say that I've been everywhere. Oftentimes, I will go cycling or hiking on my trips, and I often sail right from my house, as I live right on the water. Books & literature[edit]Although I'm not really much of a reader (at least, when it comes to fiction), I have read the entirety of the The Lord of the Rings, and have heard both the 1981 BBC Radio Adaption and the films made by Peter Jackson (incidentally, the last movie I ever watched...), although I do not deny that Peter Jackson did a great job making the LotR films. My favourite character of the Lord of the Rings is probably Aragorn. Other books that I have enjoyed over the years include The Elements and Reactions by Theodore Gray, Canada's Weather by Chris St. Clair, and various other books, mainly about science & technology. Music[edit]My favourite music in general is film score music, such as that made by Two Steps From Hell music and Immediate Music; despite this my favourite single artist is Gordon Lightfoot, and his best song in my opinion is The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Other good bands and artists are The Who, Great Big Sea, Hank Snow, Stan Rogers, Antti Martikainen Music, and Stompin' Tom Connors, at least in my opinion. Weather Forecasting[edit]When it comes to weather forecasting, I almost always check The Weather Network and not Environment Canada when I want to find the weather forecast for the day; I find the Weather Network tends to predict the weather more accurately, and doesn't predict as much rain, drizzle, and fog as Environment Canada. For hurricane forecasts, I seriously recommend checking Mike's Weather Page. He has all the hurricane tracking details there, on one site, and his predictions are, more often than not, true. For excellent visual tropical cyclone tracking models, Levi Cowan's site, Tropical Tidbits, has automatically updating GFS, ECMWF, GEM, and more weather models. Professional Work[edit]In the fall of 2017, I developed a new electrolyte additive for lithium ion batteries, and in June of 2018, I, together with Tesla, took a patent on this chemical. Other work that I have performed includes; asymmetric reduction of imines and pyridines using a diazophosphole catalyst and pinacolborane (the pyridine reduction wasn't asymmetric), using pouch bags to measure gas evolution by lithium ion battery electrodes, and serving as a TA in the undergraduate organic laboratory at Dalhousie. For a complete list of my work, check out my Google Scholar profile. Areas of expertise[edit]I consider myself to have above-average knowledge in the following fields:
Other fields in which I am fairly well-versed include:
