Gisele Silva is a performing artist, instructor and choreographer from São Paulo, Brazil. She is the dance captain for Chloe Arnold's Syncopated Ladies, member of tap dance company Music From The Sole and guest artist for Dorrance Dance.

Early life and education

Gisele Silva was born and raised in Brazil. Silva began dancing at age five in her home school Espaço Dânia Amaral, doing all the styles of dance.[1]

Career

As a young artist, she danced professionally and taught across Brazil. She was a member of Ribeirão Preto Cia de Dança and Cia Pé na Tábua and has taught in the biggest festival of South America, Tap in Rio, in Rio de Janeiro.[1]

In 2018 Silva moved to the U.S after accepting the invitation from her mentor Chloe Arnold to join the Syncopated Ladies, touring nationally and performing at venues including Apollo Theater, Lincoln Center and Miller Theatre. The group have over 100 million views online, receiving praise from Beyoncé, Whoopi Goldberg on The View, James Corden, as well as many other celebrities and news outlets around the world.[2]

She has performed at the New York City Center, Guggenheim, Jacob's Pillow, Vail Dance Festival and The Joyce Theater.[3]

Silva played a leading role of Clara for Dorrance Dance's production,"The Nutcracker Suite" co-choreographed by Michelle Dorrance. Performing in prestigious venues across the country, including The Kennedy Center, Charleston Gaillard Center and New York City Center.[4]

With the cast of The Nutcracker, Silva was invited by the office of the First Lady of the United States to participate in the White House's 2023 Holiday Campaign.[5] The group had the unique opportunity to perform throughout the entire East Wing of White House. After First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, posted a video of the performance on her social media, the clip went viral, amassing over 1.6 million views and resulting in articles in The New York Times[6] and The Washington Post.

Silva became the first Afro-Brazilian tap dancer to dance at the White House.[7]
