Wikipedia:Discontinuation of comments subpages/Message
Dear WikiProject,
You are receiving this message because your project banner makes use of /Comments subpages. These pages (see an example) were originally intended to explain or justify an article's assessment rating, but a recent discussion on the village pump found a consensus to phase out the use of these pages (please read the full discussion for the rationale). Following this discussion, the message and link which encouraged users to create new subpages was removed from all WikiProject banners. To decide what to do with existing /Comments pages of articles within the scope of this project, we need to know what approach this WikiProject wishes to take:
- No use of comments (default option). The /Comments page will be redirected to the article talk page, and a note will be placed on the article talk page to inform that this has occurred, with a link to the history so that editors can check the previous content of those pages.
- Comments used as a parameter of the project banner. The project banner will be coded to accept a new parameter for comments and the contents of the /Comments page will be substituted into the template call. (See some examples.)
- Use WikiProject subpages instead. If the project wishes to continue to use separate pages for assessment comments, you will need to arrange to move them into project space.
If the project has an opinion on the matter, could a spokesperson please write your decision on the response page within the next month. If no response is received by 5th December 2009, the default option 1 will be actioned. Many thanks.
