CHCT/CHCO-TV Content

[edit]

Emarsee,

Yes I do have close relationship with this station.

CHCO-TV Broadcast Certificate# T-7335 File# 6206-08476

I don't know how to change the page name to CHCO-TV.

Thanks for helping keep our information up to date.

Emarsee, care to fix this logo for me? (FreshCorp619 (talk) 00:08, 5 January 2013 (UTC))[reply]

It looks like you managed to embed a raster image inside a SVG file, which pretty much defeats the purpose of having an SVG file. I'll fix the logo soon though.  █ EMARSEE 00:46, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you delete my edit?

[edit]

I am confused about what you meant in your edit description. I don't see any reason to delete what I wrote. This is about the CBC News article.

I can't exactly say the source you cited can be considered to be reliable, LifeSiteNews isn't a well established news organization and a organization linked with the CPC isn't likely able to make a unbiased decision on whether CBC's news is "liberal" or not. The site claims the CBC "has gained a firm reputation in Canada for its heavy liberal slant" without substantiating that claim. You would be better off with a source that makes mention of CBC News' alleged bias from reliable and well established news organization like The Globe and Mail or the National Post.  █ EMARSEE 02:02, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable and well established - The Globe and Mail?

Now it's obvious to me that Wikipedia panders to the epitome of Journalistic bias and lack of journalistic integrity. http://www.canpalnet.ca/mambo/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=185&Itemid=1 — Preceding unsigned comment added by AshyCrow (talkcontribs) 03:57, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thumbnails

[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=File%3ABronydoc_logo.jpg&diff=534275499&oldid=534267189 It doesn't update the most recent thumbnail until you upload a new picture for the file, and then, the most recent one takes on the appearance of the old image. I think this is a Wikipedia bug someone with more power than us needs to fix. dogman15 (talk) 17:21, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I've noticed that. A forced refresh of the page normally solves the problem and generates a new thumbnail for the image. I have no idea why its only the Bronycon doc image that's problematic, but someone *really* needs to fix this.  █ EMARSEE 06:38, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
For a while, there were also problems with the display of this image's updates. dogman15 (talk) 06:58, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Palm trees in BC.....

[edit]

RE this edit - probably the same person obsessively tried to feature this in the Vancouverarticle, using pics of the palms on the English Bay waterfront as if they were common; and got into something of an edit war over it; I see they're back. Many trees in BC are exogenous; the monkey-puzzle comes to mind as much more visible, also the rhododendron and azalea and decorative bamboo which are very very common as you may know. The palm trees thing is jejune, someone's obsession; trying to prove that BC is "Canada's tropics" or whatever....Skookum1 (talk) 03:35, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Constructivity

[edit]

Hey.

Could you explain what makes this not constructive?

I think it's valid if its under the subheading ==controversy==

If you could tell me how the points in this post aren't valid, or how I can make them valid to stay ON the page, that'd be great. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AshyCrow (talkcontribs) 03:22, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid you don't understand how Wikipedia work - content on Wikipedia needs to be neutral and verifiable. In order for a article to be verifiable, it needs to be back by reliable sources. As it currently stand, your contributions are nothing more than mere opinion and are not backed up by any sources (your blog does not count as a source). Wikipedia is not a soapbox for dissenting opinions, if this was the case, we could fill up Christy Clark's page with endless commentary on controversy x and y and distract the reader from learning about her biography or her political positions. I'll welcome your reply on this matter, but I'll be reverting your edit as its unacceptable in its current state.

I did ask how we could make these what you call, 'claims', valid. There is lots in the article that I could point to that isn't 'neutral'. For example, the article fails to show where some of the Dolphin that have been SHOWCASED at the aquarium are actually from. If you want to use google to find a website that's VERIFIABLE, please do, as there are many links that point to the fact that the Dolphin were purchased from the Futo Dolphin Drives. There is also lots of information to help someone like you, understand what sort of industry the Aquarium supported by committing to this purchase.

The contributions to this article fail to provide verifiable facts as to why its educational for an animal to be contained within 9,500,000 liters of water as opposed to living freely in the ocean. Lots of articles have controversy contrary to the official definition of the institution. Why is this so different? This isn't the only aquarium in the world that has been challenged by these ideas. BUT, it is one of only two or three aquariums in the world that hold in captivity, whales and dolphins.

And please don't compare the matters of Christy Clark's life to obvious manipulation of the public. If wikipedia is really supposed to be about INFORMING people, then people who are unaware of the inner workings of aquariums should be informed and as the aquarium likes to state, educated.

Thanks

It's not my job to cite or reference your claims, I don't care if the aquarium is the site of the second coming of Jesus - the onus is on you to find a reliable source to back up your claims. Consider reading WP:SOAPBOX and see why your revisions to the article are currently unacceptable under Wikipedia policy - it has nothing to do with the ethical stance of the aquarium but rather Wikipedia's commitment to highlight information in a neutral manner. In other words, we're going to have to look at this issue from BOTH sides of the story (including the Vanaqua's)  █ EMARSEE 04:05, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Global National 2013,jpg.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Orphaned non-free media (File:BC Conservative Party Logo.png)

Thanks for uploading File:BC Conservative Party Logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Golden Village

[edit]

Hi, I noticed that deletion of the "second-largest Chinese community in North America and its cite, partly because it's a COI cite to a Golden Village website, partly because it's not just Golden Village that comprisess that "second-largest" thingie; it's been a pissing contest for a long time between various North American Chinatown pages for a long time; see Talk:Chinatown and its archives about this. "is claimed to be by xxx" should be in the text given.Skookum1 (talk) 01:45, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Abbotsford re "aetheism" (more like agnosticism/apathy) re Bible Belt

[edit]

That edit, given its April 30 date, might have something to do with this poll reported on the HuffPo but no specifics on Abby are given, nor a link to the Humanist Assn's poll; it's probably broken down by region. I'm from Mission and the stats don't surprise me despite the Bible Belt tone of the Central and Eastern Valley, particularly on the south side of the river though "Bible Belt" has often been (somewhat incorrectly) used to include the Ridge and Mission. For years, Abby's character has had a huge secular and anti-religious population; partly a reaction of course to the strength of the Mennonite and Dutch Reformed churches and various neo-Christian sects like the Bethel Temple (one of my neighbours married into that, said they were Holy rollers LOL). Abby has always been a biker and fighter town, also, despite the presence and strength of the churches and religious element. Polarities, that's pretty much anywhere in BC. BC has always had a higher rate of "non-religion" and also exotic religions like Buddhism (non-Asian Buddhists I mean) and the Emissaries of the Divine Light and more. That it's now a majority, according to that poll, which has a POV basis of course, is not all that surprising....even in Abbotsford. Whether that poll can be found to be cited remains unclear, not sure what StatsCan says for the Mission-Abbotsford census area.Skookum1 (talk) 06:06, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, I have to commend you on your wonderful insight, I don't live in the Valley and I'm surprised by the level of irreligiousness in Abby/Mission. I've found the poll online and there is a breakdown of religiousness by region, but I'm quite certain that Abbotsford and the rest of the FVRD is lumped under "Interior" or "Rest of Mainland" - but that doesn't really tell us anything. I'd rather wait for StatsCan to release the relevant census data on religion (and they're really dragging their feet on that) in BC, there wouldn't be any problems with POV as it comes from a neutral source.  █ EMARSEE 07:29, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
def wouldn't be Interior; is there Lower Mainland?Skookum1 (talk) 11:48, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
just looking for religion data from StatsCan/census, not sure it's in the community profile for Mission-Abby CMA, we'll see. Just wanted to comment that it's odd that Abby and Chilliwack and Langley don't have religion sections.....but note that the sports section is detailed. Gives you an idea of contributors' priorities, perhaps their a-religiosity.Skookum1 (talk) 13:17, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Only census data is by province, I guess you have to pay to get detailed local info. Never used to be that way with the census, now all pay-for whenever they can make an excuse (data is valuable of course); and now with the long-form census going the way of the dodo bird we won't have figures for a lot of things in future.....Skookum1 (talk) 13:23, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a link to the poll: [1], regions are broken down into Metro Vancouver, Interior and Vancouver Island - there's no Lower Mainland.
Religious beliefs are still accessible on StatsCan, but its very well hidden under the 2001 census. They can be found here for Abbotsford  █ EMARSEE 17:04, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
They must be adding the FVRD and possibly the SLRD to "Metro Vancouver" as no way would Abby be lumped with the Interior or the Island. Metro Vancouver is a misnomer anyway, the name of the regional district is still the Greater Vancouver Regional District; "Greater Vancouver" remains a geographic reference, but here's a case where the GVRD Board's rebranding has been taken that one step further; probably ignorance on the part of the pollster, who's probably in Toronto.Skookum1 (talk) 00:58, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[outdent] Just looked at the Abby-Mission CMA religion figures on the cite you gave; the point there is that unlike the Humanist Assn's poll, the census didn't ask anything about how often people go to church, or if at all. I was baptized United Church, haven't gone since I was 12 or so other than to funerals etc.- but in the census I might self-identify as "Protestant" (the largest group in the Abby census) without ever going to church or "being religious".Skookum1 (talk) 02:49, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Or are we thinking anything left of centre = socialism?" - actually, anything left of extreme right is what that crowd will say "socialism" for, if not "communism" which you'd also hear sometimes, and often still do.Skookum1 (talk) 08:52, 11 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Palm trees

[edit]

A good 20 times at least, in fact, it's been debated/deleted; another pic was placed on Climate of Vancouver which may yet be re-placed by the "palm tree fetishist". I'm all for a Flora of Vancouver article with an "Exotics and imports" section, with Japanese maple, Japanese cherry, monkeypuzzle, rhododendrons, azaleas, boxwood, a certain large-leaf shrub we call "laurel" but isn't daphnis, a few species of ornamental bamboo, all common in private and civic landscaping, and sundry but palm trees are scarcely high up the list in terms of frequency or notability. The premise of painting Vancouver as sub-tropical, which is the implication, is an old conceit about the place.Skookum1 (talk) 05:05, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why i believe CTV and CTV Two should share a template…

[edit]

Hello, Emarsee. i appreciate your work in regards to Canadian television! However, i disagree with your decision to have CTV and CTV Two in two separate templates rather than one. Why? Because the CTV Two stations are no longer notable enough to justify a separate template box for them. Less than a decade ago, A Channel has exclusive shows (many simsubbed) to compete with other networks. Now, CTV Two is mostly a downgraded version of CTV, as the following schedule summary shows.

Weekdays
On CTV Two, ¾ of the time between 10h and 18h is devoted to shows also airing on the original CTV:

Show Broadcast time
CTV CTV Two
Ellen 16h 10h
Marilyn 10h 11h and 14h
Anderson 17h 15h
Dr. Oz 14h 16h
eTalk 19h 17h

The remaining is disappointing: reruns of Degrassi and Corner Gas count as Canadian content (30 minutes each), plus an hour is devoted to American simsubs. As for primetime and early mornings, almost all shows are filler.

Weekends
Weekends are even worse. 27% of the time, it's a CTV Movie. Another 12½% is devoted to local infomercials or paid programming. The remaining 60½%? Reruns, simsubs and other filler.

Overall, CTV Two lacks the notability found on other secondary networks, such as BBC Two and the proposed CBC-2. i think the best approach would be to ask several Wikipedians whether it would be best to have one template for the two CTV brands or one template per brand. Please let me know what you think!

Deletion of update

[edit]

Hi Emarsee,

You recently deleted my update to the Vancouver Sun Run that outlined the efforts they are making to green their event on the basis that this is not relevant. I would beg to disagree as many running events are taking initiatives to reduce their environmental footprint. The information is from a reliable source and I think it should be re-instated.

I wouldn't exactly call the references you cited as reliable, especially when they seem so self-congratulating, check out WP:RS for information. Kwantlen editing

[edit]

Emarsee,

Yesterday, I had edited the section on the Kwantlen Polytechnic University campuses. I had re-written the content found on the Kwantlen campus webpages and sourced them appropriately. However, you stated it was a "copyright" violation.

Today, I re-edited the campus information, writing all the material from scratch, and not using any material directly from the Kwantlen campus webpages and thus did not source them. The context of all the information updated was neutral (not breaching the "Neutrality" policy) and should not have infringed on the Copyright either. However, you cited both a "Copyright" and now a "Conflict of interest" breach.

How do you suggest I add informative information about Kwantlen and its campuses, similar to other post-secondary institutions such as UBC, SFU, or even Duke University (which was sourced as an ideal post-secondary page in my research) that will comply with Wikipedia policies and your standards?

Ddryden87 (talk) 17:30, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your interest in editing Wikipedia, we've had quite a few people put copyrighted material onto Kwantlen's article and this is not allowed under Wikipedia's copyright policy. All text should be written with a neutral point of view that does not under any circumstance promote the organization in question. Unless I'm mistaken, you seem to be currently enrolled in Kwantlen - this doesn't mean you aren't allowed to edit the article, but you should take serious consideration whether your text is overtly promotional in nature.
Words such as "technologically advanced" or "specifically designed" should be avoided per WP:WORDS to avoid any potential bias. In addition, Wikipedia isn't a gallery; two or three images should be more than enough for the entire section. As you've already uploaded your images to Wikimedia Commons, create a gallery for Kwantlen and link it to the Wikipedia page.  █ EMARSEE 19:52, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your response. Indeed I am currently enrolled in Kwantlen (hence how I originally came across this page). After some quick reading, I noticed that it lacked a lot of information and also contained some outdated information. When I researched other local post-secondary institutions Wikipedia pages, they seemed very detailed and informative, so I wanted to contribute to updating the Kwantlen page.
As a new member to Wikipedia, I attempted to do my due diligence in following all of the policies. However, I will take your feedback and re-edit my work to further comply as best as possible. In addition, I will also create that gallery as per your suggestion and try to link it in. Let me know if I continue to incidentally breach any further Wikipedia regulations.

My recent addition of "Gloria Tang" in the Notable Alumni section was reverted. I am curious as to why my fully referenced edit was rejected. A quick search of "2013 Miss Chinese International Pageant winner" and "2012 Miss Chinese Vancouver Pageant winner" will result in "Gloria Tang" in many articles and news publications. I don't have time or patience to deal with all that rules mumbo-jumbo and politics, so I'm looking for help and input from you since you contribute to many TV-related articles. Here's the thing, all images from article Vrak.TV except the one in infobox were removed, including those from Canal Famille, stating various parts of WP:NFG. Yet, the WP:TVS ("Use of images in articles" section) is aware of those rules, but still suggests "the purpose of a historical logo gallery is to illustrate the evolution of a television station's branding over the years".

So, what does that mean? When a television or radio station rebrands or make a major logo change, is it common use to flush any if not all past logos like if it's not encyclopedic or never existed? It just doesn't make logic sense. What's the point of Logo of NBC and American Broadcasting Company logos then? I gave up partially on english wiki a few months ago, I don't want to get into wiki politics again. Thanks. InMontreal (talk) 22:52, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:CHWK-FM 89-5 The Hawk logo.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:CHWK-FM 89-5 The Hawk logo.jpg.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Werieth (talk) 19:56, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re: "Channel" or "Network"

[edit]

Someone moved the Speed Channel article to use "network" instead of "channel" as its disambiguation because he argued the term was incorrect in this context; specifically, a channel should only refer to frequencies, while the term "network" should be used to refer to their contents. Metros

[edit]

Where are you getting your definition of Metros? 117Avenue (talk) 22:42, 12 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

From the Wikipedia article, let's see the definition the article gives and see how it's relates to SkyTrain.
A rapid transit system is a public transport system in an
  • urban area with high capacity checkY - Skytrian connects the high density downtown core with high density transit orientated suburbs.
  • high frequency not needing timetables checkY - up to 120 second frequency
  • is fast and is segregated from other traffic. checkY - No grade crossings
  • Operating on an exclusive right of way checkY - Does not interact with car or other rail traffic.
  • rapid transit systems are typically grade separated checkY - See below
  • located either in underground tunnels (subways) or elevated above street level (elevated transit line) checkY - Yes for both, half of Canada Line is a subway and the Downtown portion is also a subway, the vast majority of the rest of the system is elevated.
I'm not really sure why you're calling it a light rail system when it shares barely any features of a typical light rail system (e.g. at grade, no ROW, etc.) I agree that the system is not a full metro like the subways in NYC or Toronto, but it still meets the requirement of a rapid transit system and should be classified as such. █ EMARSEE 22:48, 12 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I thought that light rail and metros were both forms of rapid transit. But you're saying metro is synonymous with rapid transit? Then why is Rapid transit and List of metro systems located at different names? 117Avenue (talk) 23:06, 12 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The terminology can be quite confusing. Lists of rapid transit systems lists many different forms of transportation including metros and LRTs. I'd refer to Passenger rail terminology for a more detailed explanation of the terminology.  █ EMARSEE 23:26, 12 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Template

[edit]

That rule does not apply in an instance in which the initial justification is invalid. The former was resolved, but the latter was added without an explanation at the time. But since then initial template, you have elaborated and stated that this section is more detailed than others, which is a correct interpretation of the "undue" section. However, I have pointed out that the topic deserves such treatment, as evidenced by its extensive coverage in the media and its obvious importance. Something should never be deemed "undue" merely because an article is a stub and some addition seems to be "too large". That is a misinterpretation of the guideline you are referencing.

If such behavior were permitted, anybody could label something without justification and revert to the three revert rule in order to keep it legit.

I think you accidentally posted a notice on my page. Please stop removing content without making a bare minimum of effort to ascertain its validity. You previously did so at List of programs broadcast by Teletoon (leading to the discussion at User talk:Dogmaticeclectic#Teletoon programs), and now you did so again. This case seems far stranger to me than the previous one - of course the show wasn't listed at the website, since the schedule was quite obviously down at that time! Yeah that was a mistake on my part. Checked the schedule, which didn't load and also checked the list of shows listed on their website which didn't list Johnny Bravo. I'll keep that in mind.  █ EMARSEE 22:40, 16 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Breakenridge/Harrison

[edit]

Re this, it may be that this coverage is hurting his real estate values some..... there may also be a more recent report than the FVRD one the Breakenridge item is based on, there's been lots of coverage over the years here and there; there's other landslips waiting to happen in BC that are even scarier but this one they at least did a geohazard study on....and maybe there is a new government report saying different; but who wrote it, and were they paid to come up with different results; how reliable is that report. Because a government says something is safe that doesn't mean piss-all cf Hurricane Katrina. You were right to delete the rant but it may be that there's further citations to add yet; not that they're right. Myself I'd worry more about Baker blowing or the Fraser Canyon collapsing or The Barrier coming down, but it's not like Breakenridge is just any old mountain...Skookum1 (talk) 09:04, 5 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on 107.7 FM Surrey, British Columbia requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Jackfmcklg.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Jackfmcklg.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Marchjuly (talk) 05:51, 18 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of KDNB-LD

[edit]

The article KDNB-LD has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The station never went to air; its construction permit expired unbuilt. Stations that never launched do not enjoy the presumption of notability assumed for established/operating stations, and as it would have been a satellite repeater of Daystar its independent notability would have been questionable at best.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ArbCom 2017 election voter message

[edit]

Hello, Emarsee. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Discoverycc.svg

[edit]

However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.
