Comparison to Christianity

Christians make a lot of statements concerning the source of all evil has to being the Devil and they accuse Wiccans of this all of the time. If the source of evil is the devil, or Satan, then we should not be included in this statement. Wicca doesn’t recognize a one evil supernatural being.

Whereas Christianity delivers its messages through the Christian Bible, which was written decades after the death of Jesus Christ, Wiccans pass their knowledge on through their own private version of a book known as a Book of Shadows. - Wiccans believe that people alone are responsible for their actions, whereas Christians blame Satan for tempting mortals into sin.

Christianity has also proven to be a mostly patriarchal religion that has not typically reserved positions of power for women, but Wicca holds women in high regard. Perhaps the most glaring difference in the two religions is that Christianity sees all other religions as wrong and products of the devil that ultimately lead to damnation. Wiccans believe that all spiritual paths are equal and will eventually lead people to their maker. Wicca is a relatively new religion, but it is based on the Pagan religions that were in existence for many years prior to the birth and death of Jesus.

While their styles of worship heavily contrast, no conclusions can be drawn as to who is correct. Pagan religions may have been prominent today were it not for religious propaganda in the Middle Ages, or perhaps the Pagan religions dwindled off because their followers lost interest or found answers in Christianity and other major religions. Even though both religions celebrate the birth of their separate Lords within days of each other, the characteristics of their particular Lords are quite distinguished from one another. Wiccans in the United States today may have trouble finding others who share their beliefs, and even when they do they likely face persecution; Christians in the United States at least have the luxury of being able to breathe the same air as another Christian in just about any place they may visit. Are the two religions at all similar?

One may point out that the Wiccan Rede presents the Wiccan version of the Golden Rule of Christianity, but in all fairness the similarities between these two storied religions ends there. A lot of people would say that the majority of the high holidays that Wiccans celebrate are also that of Christianity. One of these would be Christmas time in Christianity it is considered to be Christmas but according to Wicca it is the holiday of Yule and another main one would be Ostara which is the Wicca equivalent of the Christians Easter holiday which signifies the rising of Jesus to Christians and the Rebirth of a Wicca God to Wiccans.
