File source problem with File:Viktor_Yanukovych_official_pic.png[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Viktor_Yanukovych_official_pic.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:15, 2 January 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey (talk) 18:15, 2 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:LBCIlogo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. libyan flag[edit]

to just pretend the situation in libya is not abnormal, not see that 'official' business is suspended, - that the flag is just the official flag of the country, not a partisan flag at this moment is sclerotic thinking , it is POV - enough sclerotic minds control the page to ensure the green flag remains, but I personally regard this as absurd, and your dictatorial stating of the position, hands off kind of thing, pompous and wrong headed, as the nation is in a changed situation now - other flags are flown in the east of libya, and the tri colour has assumed predominance, either both or neither should be shown - just the green flag is a violation of NPOV rules. don't bother to reply , i know the spiel, but it is a violation of NPOV, it looks pro-gadaffi. Replaceable fair use File:Hilda Khalife.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Hilda Khalife.JPG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. We hope (talk) 00:42, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Message from the Editorial Team

Bienvenue! Willkommen! Welcome!

Please be warm-hearted in encouraging everyone to do their best to contribute to all Eurovision-related Wikipedia articles, and welcome our new members to the project. It is easy for editors to get into conflict with each other, and things can get very nasty on the most trivial of issues, whether that be on the language of songs, the names of certain countries, or how we deal with incidents at the contest. In such circumstances it is worth remembering one thing: we are all here to build an encyclopedia, and the contribution of Eurovision to human knowledge can only be given justice if we work together and make articles, not drama!

  • If you would like something to appear in the August 2012 Edition of the newsletter, then please inform us at the Project Newsdesk.
  • If there is an article you think we should have? Request it here.

Happy editing!

Project News
  • When creating new articles about a performer or song, please remember to add sources either from Eurovision.tv, ESCToday or other reliable sources. If you're not sure a source is reliable enough, then ask the project for an opinion.
  • Remember to only add content to articles that is relevant to the article's main subject. Anything not in relation to the article may be questioned and/or subject to redirection to an article that would benefit it's inclusion. Again if in doubt, ask on the article or project talk pages for an opinion - communication is an important tool.
  • On the subject of communication, please make use of the article talk pages. They are a vital tool in conducting consensus talks of additions of proposed new sections and/or removal of unnecessary section. If you don't use these pages to put across your views, then you only have yourself to blame if actions are taken that you disagree with and you end up wandering into edit warring territory.
  • The 2012 season of Eurovision has drawn to a close, and we now start preparations for the 2013 edition. While things will be slow to start of with, now is the ideal opportunity to do a clean-up exercise across articles relating to the project. There's over 4,500 articles associated with the project. If you happen to see a Eurovision related article without the {{EurovisionNotice}} template on the article's talk page, please add it. You can also read Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment if you would like to help assess or reassess articles in our project if you see that they have outgrown their current assessment. There is currently one unassessed article.
  • And finally... a massive thank you to all members of the project for your constant hard work on collaborating and contributing to Eurovision related articles. Keep up the good work team!

Project Alerts
Headlines
Project Gossip
  • The RfC discussion in regards to article layout, is still taking place on the project talk page. Could all members please ensure that they participate in the discussion so that we can all agree on important article structure issues. If you don't take part, then you only have yourselves to blame if a consensus is passed that you disagree with.

WikiProject Eurovision: Recent changes[edit]

Hello,

Please note that there have been some changes to operations surrounding Eurovision articles, these being that:

  • Template names have now been modernised and/or megred into super-templates, for example Countries in the Eurovision Song Contest has now been merged into Template:Eurovision Song Contest making it even easier to find everything under one template. If you are planning to create a new template, please keep the standardised titles in mind. Other templates have been modernised and a full list of them can be found here.
  • The Eurovision Song Contest and Junior Eurovision Song Contest articles have now been standardised to keep a consitancy throughout the project and to the genral reader too. Skeleton article drafts can be found for Eurovision Song Contest by Year and Junior Eurovision Song Contest by Year.

If you have any questions, please ask at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Eurovision.

January 2013[edit]

Please stop adding unreferenced or poorly referenced biographical content, especially if controversial, to articles or any other Wikipedia page, as you did at Dominique Hourani. Content of this nature could be regarded as defamatory and is in violation of Wikipedia policy. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Information you add to articles must be sourced to reliable sources - see WP:RS to understand what sources we accept. This is particularly important for anything controversial or defamatory. We also normally to not name children or give detailed information about other relatives. Dougweller (talk) 16:15, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

European Broadcasting Union[edit]

I've reverted yet again the removal of Greece from the EBU article. Please see the article talk page or the talk page at ESC 2014 regarding this matter. Even though ERT have closed down temporarily, the EBU have not removed them as active members just yet - and that is an official statement from the EBU's website (which I have provided the link on both talk pages). Personal questions[edit]

Hi,

do you mind if I were to ask you a few personal questions? Feel free to not answer them, but I ask them because I wish to know something about 'memory' in Russia or with Russians in general. I ask these questions to several native Russian speakers, so forgive me if you encounter these questions on different talkpages. So here are the questions:

  • When were you born?
  • Were you 16 or older in the 1980s?
  • Were you born in Russia/Soviet Union? Where?
  • How do you remember the Soviet-Afghan war/Afghan war?
  • How do you remember the Soviet repression, such as the Gulag or the prison camp system?
  • How do you remember the public discussion in the 1980s/1990s about the repression and the prison camp system?
  • How do you feel about the victims of the Afghan war and the victims of the repression?

Answer in anyway you like (which includes not answering as well of course), thank you very much.

Kind regards,

Mallerd (talk) 18:38, 20 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

October 2013[edit]

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. We always appreciate when users upload new images. However, it appears that one or more of the images you have recently uploaded or added to an article, specifically Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation, may fail our non-free image policy. Most often, this involves editors uploading or using a copyrighted image of a living person. For other possible reasons, please read up on our Non-free image criteria. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Werieth (talk) 12:20, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is your final warning if you continue to violate WP:NFC like you did here you will blocked. Werieth (talk) 13:51, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Pierre El Daher.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Pierre El Daher.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 13:47, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not remove citations or information sourced through citations simply because a link to a source is not working, as you did to MyTV (Arabic). Dead links should not be deleted. Instead, please repair or replace the link, if possible, and ensure properly sourced information is retained. Often, a live substitute link can be found. Links not used as references, notes or citations are not as important, such as those listed in the "External links" or "Further reading" sections, but bad links in those sections should also be fixed if possible. Disambiguation link notification for January 27[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited UM Airlines, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Monastir (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Turchynov[edit]

Turchynov was not appointed acting Prime Minister. The source given is erroneous. Arbuzov was never dismissed from being acting Prime Minister, while Turchynov due to situation in the country, was appointed coordinator of Cabinet of Minister (not Prime Minister). Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 00:07, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A.h. kingInformation has to be verified before posting it. Is it not the main principle of wikipedia? Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 00:30, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
A.h. king, a simple question. Did Arbuzov resign from his office? Did anybody dismiss him? On February 24, 2014 Arbuzov as an acting Prime Minister of Ukraine released a statement: "Complex circumstances should not prevent economy of the country to work". Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 01:17, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This RELIABLE source states that Turchynov was named acting PM by the Verkhovna Rada: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-26316268 (paragraph 5-6). A.h. king • Talk to me! 10:01, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
A.h. king, how is that RELIABLE? Just because it published by BBC, it is not automatically reliable. Is the information published by the Supreme Council of Ukraine non-reliable?? Wikipedia is not a newschannel to republish some random information from other sources. Wikipedia information should be such that correspond the reality. Information on appointments to government offices is documented with official documents which proscribe those appointments. Turchynov is a coordinator of CabMin (not Prime Minister), yet Arbuzov continues to occupy the office of Prime Minister of Ukraine. If Turchynov would have been appointed acting Prime Minister, Arbuzov should have been dismissed. It did not take place. Please, note that even Vitaliy Zakharchenko has not been completely dismissed from his post, but considering situation in Ukraine and the fact that the head of Ukrainian militsiya is on the run Arsen Avakov was temporarily appointed in his place. Also, look that no ministerial portfolios were switched as of yet, but rather the current ministries are being simply dismissed. The new temporary government should be appointed on Thursday, February 27. A lot of media reporters are rushing with conclusions or assumptions, but instead simplify things when they should be reported the way they are. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 14:58, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Look at the official websites of the Supreme Council of Ukraine, the President of Ukraine, and the Cabinet of Ukraine. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 15:02, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The reason Turchynov is the acting President due to the Constitution of Ukraine where the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada acts as the President of Ukraine in the absence of one (ex officio). No one has any intentions to usurp power in the country, yet there are many who portray it as such. There were dismissal and resignation of certain number of officials that was approved by the Ukrainian parliament, any other officials are absent without leave (AWOL) and should be brought to liability as one who left their office or missing from their work without proper documentation. No one dismissed Arbuzov from his office. On February 26 he needs to hold government meeting. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 15:25, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
After signing the treaty with parliamentary opposition the President had to officially address people, yet he chose an alternative way discrediting the opposition, his supporting party and bringing the country on a verge of civil schism. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 15:35, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The article about Viktor Yanukovych also states that Yanukovych was impeached which also is not true. He was removed from the office due to self-withdrawal (Ukrainian: самоусунення, samousunennia). Even the English article does not mention anything about impeachment which constitutes an original research. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 15:45, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
On February 22, 2014 Oleksandr Turchynov, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada (note, not an acting Prime Minister), conducted a conference with acting government officials. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 16:04, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
A.h. king, also, please, consider that the fact of the chairman of Parliament coordinating (not chairing) the Cabinet of Ukraine is mentioned by the All-Ukrainian Association Maidan. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 16:11, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The references that are secondary have add nothing to the article (e.g. Brzezinski's book) and the primary sources seem very unreliable. The way it is written, I think the article was made by fan-boys of the movement. Thought I'd make a reviewer aware of that. -Llehsadam (talk) 14:37, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your message. Regardless of any political views, I believe that the article is useless and not referenced properly. Even this self-proclaimed state is very vague in its formation, structure and so on.A.h. king • Talk to me! 15:06, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. File permission problem with File:Viktor Yanukovych portrait.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Viktor Yanukovych portrait.jpg.

You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 18:08, 1 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Question for administrator[edit]

Please how can I get exempted from an IP block?

--A.h. king • Talk to me! 05:31, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Any administrator can give IPBE exemption, but may want to take checkuser advice first - see this thread which by coincidence has just appeared on the administrators' noticeboard. So, why do you need IPBE? What is the blocked IP or range? JohnCD (talk) 21:02, 19 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Murr tv old.png[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Murr tv old.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 20:53, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on MTV Lebanon requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://mtv.com.lb/About. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. WikiProject Eurovision: Important Announcement[edit]

WikiProject Eurovision
Important Announcement

Dear Project Member

Following a project community discussion, which was raised over the use of English translation columns on annual contest articles, and advice from the lead coordinator of The Guild of Copy Editors, who are extremely knowledgeable in regards to all editing practises and manual of style policies. A consensus decision has been reached to fully remove ALL English translations, as such content falls under the prohibition on original research, even if it seems helpful to the reader. This is because we have now to assume that every reader has access to automated translation tools that can always give them a sense of the meaning of the title in their native language; it is not Wikipedia's job to provide those tools for the reader. Which therefore means we are no longer to include an English translation column, nor are we to provide translation by any other means on contest articles.

Such information is currently in the process of being removed, and a new table formatting and layout style is being rolled out across all articles. Please view the new guidance on table layout at Wikipedia:WikiProject Eurovision/Format and Guides#Article layout. An example of the new table layout style can also be access via the collapsed section within this message. Thank you.

Replaceable fair use File:PierreElDaher.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:PierreElDaher.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 20:09, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on BeIN Sports HD, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

Can you help verify translations of articles from Arabic[edit]

Hello,

Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from Arabic to English Wikipedia?

File:Language icon.svg

This would involve evaluating a translated article on English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original Arabic article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:

There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as machine translations from different languages including Arabic , using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from Arabic. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: Good English is not the same as good translation.

If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of the articles that need checking:

All you have to do, is compare the English article to the Arabic article, and mark it "Pass" or "Fail" (templates {{Pass}} and {{Fail}} may be useful). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then marking it "Pass", that's even better, but it isn't required.)

If you can help, please let me know. Thanks! Mathglot (talk) 09:32, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Expertise needed[edit]

Hello and happy new year. I need some expertise. I marked the Ukrainian Soviet Encyclopedia as a potential unreliable source in the article Moscow, third Rome. Sorry to insist. Veverve (talk) 01:14, 26 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Veverve, it is a good source in general, but mind that it is soaked with Soviet propaganda so in some cases it has to be counterweighted by something else to reach NPOV. Do not know about this particular subject though. --Base (talk) 09:11, 17 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Baraem.png[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Baraem.png.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Tv1000action.gif[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Tv1000action.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 04:14, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Star Select has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable package of television channels from a satellite television provider.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
