This user's talk page is monitored by talk page watchers. Some of them even talk back. Their input is welcome, and their help with messages that I cannot reply to quickly is appreciated. |
It is 10:14 PM where this user lives. |
Note: Please check the above template for what time it is in my location before sending a message as I may be asleep.
Note 2: When it is April fool's day, DO NOT TROUT ME as an April Fool's joke. In the past I had a trout button which I removed due to persistent abuse of it. If you trout me on April Fool's Day I will revert you and ask that you do not do it again.
Note 3: Any comments here regarding a vandal or from a blocked user that I was WP:AGF will be archived once I ensure there is nothing left to say per WP:DENY.
Note 4: If I remove your comment and you add it back, I will revert you and warn you for doing so. If you do it again after that then I will report you for harassment. This crap has gone on for way too long and I've become less and less tolerant of it. Removing comments from my own talk page is perfectly allowable per WP:OWNTALK.
Semi-retirement
[edit]This section is pinned and will not be automatically archived. |
It's about time I officially declared myself semi-retired. I don't edit nearly as much as I used to anymore, mostly because I don't have the time to do so, but also because I'm simply not nearly as interested in editing Wikipedia anymore. Don't worry, I'm not leaving forever (yet, we'll see what happens). In addition I'm starting college in a few weeks so my time will be even more limited because of my job. I will retire from being a mentee (tho anyone I'm currently helping can still ask me for help) but will continue with the Counter-Vandalism Unit Academy. I enjoyed my time here and meeting all these people. Will I ever return to editing Wikipedia full time? Who knows. Maybe when I'm an old man if Wikipedia is still around. ― Blaze WolfTalkblaze__wolf 03:30, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- It's sad to see your activity drop, but I wish you a good time in college. Rusty 🐈 03:34, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- Adding on to this, I'll respond to your talk page messages while you're inactive if that's okay with you. Rusty 🐈 03:35, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Rusty Cat: I'm retiring from mentoring so I won't really receive nearly as many, but that's fine if you respond to others on my talk page. ― Blaze WolfTalkblaze__wolf 03:36, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- Good luck in college and wherever/whatever you go and do! DMacks (talk) 04:37, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
Teach
[edit]User:Blaze Wolf can you teach me on anti vandalism I saw on Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit you train TheSmartWikiOne (talk) 19:43, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- @TheSmartWikiOne: Heya! As you may be able to see on my userpage I am semi-retired. While I can teach you it would be extremely slow. Also you don't have very many edits yet so I suggest you get some more edits and get more involved on Wikipedia before getting into anti-vandalism so that way you understand how Wikipedia works as it will help you in deciding what is and isn't vandalism. ― Blaze WolfTalkblaze__wolf 04:25, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

- its my dads it not mutipple accounts TheSmartWikiOne (talk) 15:29, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- @TheSmartWikiOne: First of all, you should not have been using his account. We have a policy against multiple people using one account (see WP:NOSHARE). This seems to further demonstrate to me that you need to edit for a lot longer as you don't seem to have an understanding of our policies which is very important to anti-vandalism work. ― Blaze WolfTalkblaze__wolf 21:00, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Updates for editors
- Users of Wikimedia sites will now be warned when they create a redirect to a page that doesn't exist. This will reduce the number of broken redirects to red links in our projects. [1]
- View all 42 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, Pywikibot, which automates work on MediaWiki sites, was upgraded to 9.5.0 on Toolforge. [2]
Updates for technical contributors
- On wikis that use the FlaggedRevs extension, pages created or moved by users with the appropriate permissions are marked as flagged automatically. This feature has not been working recently, and changes fixing it should be deployed this week. Thanks to Daniel and Wargo for working on this. [3][4]
In depth
- There is a new Diff post about Temporary Accounts, available in more than 15 languages. Read it to learn about what Temporary Accounts are, their impact on different groups of users, and the plan to introduce the change on all wikis.
Meetings and events
- Technical volunteers can now register for the 2025 Wikimedia Hackathon, which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. Application for travel and accommodation scholarships is open from November 12 to December 10 2024. The registration for the event will close in mid-April 2025. The Wikimedia Hackathon is an annual gathering that unites the global technical community to collaborate on existing projects and explore new ideas.
- Join the Wikimedia Commons community calls this week to help prioritize support for Commons which will be planned for 2025–2026. The theme will be how content should be organised on Wikimedia Commons. This is an opportunity for volunteers who work on different things to come together and talk about what matters for the future of the project. The calls will take place November 21, 2024, 8:00 UTC and 16:00 UTC.
- A Language community meeting will take place November 29, 16:00 UTC to discuss updates and technical problem-solving.
