Tip of the day...

Advanced signatures

It is good Wikiquette to sign your messages on talk pages. This is done by typing ~~~~ (four tildes). Do not sign article pages.

Some users have fancy signatures with lots of colors and links. Here are 3 different ways to do that:

1. Edit directly in the signature box
   1. Go to your Preferences and type some wiki-markup code (and/or HTML markup code) into the signature box to augment your stock signature
   2. Check the box that says "Treat the above as Wiki markup"
   3. Press the "Save" button. Or...
2. Use an HTML editor
   1. Open an HTML editor (e.g. Adobe Dreamweaver or Microsoft Expression Web)
   2. Design how you want your signature to look, putting links in it by adding brackets [[ ]]
   3. Select it and click the HTML tab and copy the code of your text into the signature box mentioned above.
   4. Be sure not to copy the tags at the beginning and end of the code that say <p> </p>. Or...
3. Adapt someone else's signature
   1. Find a signature you like
   2. Click edit this page
   3. Copy and paste the signature into your signature box (see #1 above), but change all the links to your links: you do not want your signature leading to someone else's user page!

Do not use images, templates, or external links in your signature. Please ensure your custom signature complies with the relevant guideline. Use special code for displayed pipe character.

Speedy deletion of Downey's Musical Pride

A tag has been placed on Downey's Musical Pride requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Only Yesterday.jpg

Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Fair use rationale for Image:The Carpenters Photo Shoot.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:The Carpenters Photo Shoot.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Orphaned non-free image (Image:The Carpenters Photo Shoot.png)

Also, the "big deal" is the possibility of a lawsuit being filed against the Wikimedia Foundation for copyright infringement if we are lenient about stuff like that. FunPika 01:24, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, such as in User talk:Cuyler91093, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. image replacement

FYI, File:Venus and Mars.svg has been replaced by File:Venus and Mars songs album cover reproduction .svg and thereafter deleted from Commons. --Túrelio (talk) 07:56, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
