25th Oct ballet editathon[edit]

Hi Raya, nice to meet you today. The Ballet editathon at the Royal Opera House is on the 25th - be great to see you there, feel free to bring a friend. ϢereSpielChequers 16:26, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there :) Thank you for letting me know! This looks great! --Raya - Get in touch! 13:53, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please contact whoever is in charge of this course and get them to tell their students that articles aren't essays and not to edit war? Example. --NeilN talk to me 02:52, 24 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'll let the students know, thank you. --Raya - Get in touch! 18:26, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
FYI another example, leading to this problematic request at Mean as custard's talk page. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 13:25, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Rhododendrites: I'll get in touch with the student... Apologies for this... --Flycatchr 13:34, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the quick reply and for being on top of things. I know these things happen with student assignments sometimes. I'm not sure if it's articulated in class, but I find it helps to make it clear to everyone that grades aren't based on what "sticks" in the article (i.e. what remains at the end of the course/assignment) -- that their work is visible in the page history, so there's no need to try to force things :) — Rhododendrites talk \\ 14:08, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Rhododendrites: Actually, the assignment is set in a way that what sticks on the article is what matters most... Which is evidently not good/ideal for a Wikipedia assignment and which explains students' stress. I am going to talk to the organisers of the module to see how we can structure the assignment differently for next year, taking into consideration your contributions and @NeilN:'s contributions.
Indeed. It's an aspect of assignments that tends to cause conflicts with other editors (being contrary to Wikipedia's collaborative spirit). If you haven't come across it, you might be interested to check out some of the information (e.g. brochures, training) at the Wiki Education Foundation website (I work for them). We're only able to support classes in the US and Canada right now, but the materials are applicable to anyone working on the English Wikipedia. PS: You're pinging Mean as custard, but seem to be responding to me, User:Rhododendrites :) — Rhododendrites talk \\ 01:42, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Rhododendrites: Apologies for pinging Mean as custard this entire time (got a bit confused there) and for not replying earlier... I have actually gone through a less formal Campus Ambassador training last year and am aware of the brilliant work you do at the Wiki Ed Foundation. The problem in my case is the module leader himself is not familiar with the dynamics of Wiki platforms and community and wasn't too keen on evaluating students on collaboration. I'm only a student and didn't have much authority over how the assignment should have been run or graded.--Flycatchr 12:17, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

User:YueHe is on the verge of being indef'ed for long-term/repeated copyvio. If "what sticks is what matters", you might recommend to him that he thinks very hard about what it would mean that all of his edits are undone and he is prohibited from making any more. Not sure what training the students received in this aspect of WP contribution, and this editor in particular has a history pre-dating this course, but I often see this sort of problem arise when students' prime directive sounds like "get something, anything, on there". DMacks (talk) 02:43, 5 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

User:Vixtoria and User:Amna Kashif were the next two I spot-checked from the course-page, and both were copyvio'ing. What a mess; I'm too tired to look further. But hopefully the instructor takes note, both for grading appropriately this time and for working to avoid it next time. DMacks (talk) 03:25, 5 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I warned User:AndrejKoc for edit-warring (unexplained undoing of my explained edits), but his edits (and redoings thereof) include multiple violations of policy and guideline (the topic itself isn't my specialty; no comment on the general editorial/content aspect). DMacks (talk) 04:19, 5 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I took your redlinked AFD nomination at Mohammed Al-Moeini and completed the steps to list it at AFD. The debate may be found at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mohammed Al-Moeini. However, since then there seems to be a consensus that the subject is a notable footballer. He has played for multiple pro teams in a fully pro league. If you don't object, we can go ahead and close the debate. Since the nomination started with your tag on the article, the decision to withdraw is yours. Best, UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 19:12, 28 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Ultraexactzz: I would like to object. Although you state that the footballer is notable, I can't seem to find any external sources linking to him. --Flycatchr 15:07, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, the debate was already closed as Keep. If the team they played for is a fully professional team (which they are), then the player is considered notable. Now, if there isn't actually any evidence that they did indeed play on the teams they're shown to have played for, then yes deletion might be appropriate. So your best bet is going to be checking the teams listed and seeing if this player is listed on their rosters for the years he was with that club. If he's missing from the official lists, then let me know and we'll see how to proceed. UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 16:28, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
From the debate, This link to the Soccerway database seems to confirm that this player was on notable teams. It's not much, but is probably enough to confirm notability under WP:NFOOTY. UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 16:30, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Then I think in this case the name of the player is wrong on the WP article. By comparing height/weight/DOB details in the current WP page with external pages like this one, and this one, I get Mohamed Ali Abdulla. --Flycatchr 00:25, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'd suggest raising that issue at WT:FOOTY, then. The editors at the Football wikiproject are more familiar with international soccer than I am, and should be able to help you out. Changing the article to reflect a correct name is simple - because whoever this player is, they did play on pro teams. So they get an article. Hello,

Your account is currently configured with an education program flag. This system (the Courses system) is being deprecated. Event coordinator granted[edit]

After reviewing your request for the "eventcoordinator" permission, I have enabled the flag on your account. Keep in mind these things:

  • The event coordinator right removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period.
  • The event coordinator right allows you to temporarily add the "confirmed" permission to newly created accounts. You should not grant this for more than 10 days.
  • The event coordinator right is not a status symbol. If it remains unused, it is likely to be removed. Abuse of the event coordinator right will result in its removal by an administrator.
  • Please note, if you were previously a member of the "account creator" group, your flag may have been converted to this new group.

If you no longer require the right, let me know, or ask any other administrator. Drop a note on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of the event coordinator right. Happy editing! — xaosflux Talk 13:21, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for June 5[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 2018 Jordanian protests, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page King Abdullah (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Your draft article, Draft:The Worldwide Tribe[edit]

Hello, Flycatchr. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "The Worldwide Tribe".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 09:35, 24 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Burhan Karkutli moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Burhan Karkutli, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
