Your comments

[edit]

I suggest that you consider whether you are showing a healthy or a premature interest in Wikipedia politics and conflicts. Would it be better for you to focus on editing articles or focus on other important content-related parts of Wikipedia?

There is a lot of negativism in conflict-mediation, and even if the excitement of conflicts does not attract you, there is the danger that you absorb a lot of the hostility? This has happened to many editors, many of whom retire because they decide the conflicts are not worth it.

In the WTT talk page and other places, perhaps it would be better to let e.g. Dennis and WTT handle things, or Ryan (who has integrity like TParis)? This particular conflict has been long-running and unless at least one party agrees to change behavior, there is little that can be done.

Kiefer.Wolfowitz 12:31, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I just try to give a hand and advice when I can. I know Demi, Malleus and Ryan, and because of that I left some comments trying to stop them, and I think it worked :) Also, Worm is a friend of mine and that's why I appeared as a stalker in the first place. Yeah, I have been a witness of all the negativity in conflict-mediation, but I think that If you always talk with a calmed tone, trying to help the users involved to calm down and think, it works. Of course, I am not going to put my nose in every conflict I see, that would be detrimental to me and I have my own share of personal conflicts here already. Thank you for the advice Kiefer :) — ΛΧΣ21 12:37, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It was a well-intentioned effort, but I think naive and effectively a distraction, given the 2-year history of this conflict, about which you presumably are unfamiliar. Kiefer.Wolfowitz 18:47, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am unfamiliar. Do you know what happened exactly? — ΛΧΣ21 20:02, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
An inordinate interest in pathology should not be indulged, advised Herr Setembrini to Hans Castorp who was falling under the mephitic influence of Herr Naphta. Kiefer.Wolfowitz 22:11, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't understand a single word >.< — ΛΧΣ21 22:14, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't that the great thing about talking with Kiefer.Wolfowitz :). Before you know it, you're transported to The Magic Mountain. In this case though, you can think of it more along the lines of a soap opera, where the latest arrival is ignorant of the previous relationships of several characters and much is made of the potential for him to fall upon a massive poxed fox. Elen of the Roads (talk) 23:46, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, now I understand :) Yes, it's fantastic how he awakes your interest into doing a thorough research to find the true meaning behind his otherwise indecipherable commentary. At the end, the message he sent to me is completely understandable to the related situation that brough him here. Thanks Elen :) And good luck in your recent endeavors.ΛΧΣ21 23:56, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! (Shucks!)
I found the first 100 pages dull, but then I loved most of it, particularly Herr Setembrini. Our article doesn't do justice to Herr Naphta, who is a parody of Georgy Lukacs: A little dip into History and Class Consciousness is worthwhile just to appreciate Mann's ridiculing of Lukacs, perhaps not a direct murderer like Althusser, but still the most totalitarian intellectual of Marxism. I would avoid the rest of Mann, who is a pompous bore, at least in English. You are probably too old for the Bildungsroman of Herman Hesse, which are loved by German students (who deserve our sympathy) and Jungians (ugh), but his The Glass Bead Game is worthwhile, I think. Kiefer.Wolfowitz 21:25, 17 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I will try to find it in english or spanish and take a look after page 101 :P And actually, I am feeling right now that I have now a thousand times more to learn than what I thought. Actually, in my part of the world, we don't (sadly) enjoy good literature (or reading as a whole) as a common practice, our culture is more based in political history and name-blaming rather than culture and education, but soem individuals make the difference :) — ΛΧΣ21 04:20, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WP:WPGA Newsletter delivery

[edit]

Just a minor point, but it's useful, when your bot delivers a newsletter to all its participants, that you place the bot's signature at the very end of the message, as my bot normally does here when distributing the WikiProject Video games newsletter. If you don't do that, then bots will be unable to archive the newsletter when needed, as evidenced on my talk page. Hope that helps, --MuZemike 03:36, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I will change the delivery format then; although, ot is not my bot, but JamesR's :) — ΛΧΣ21 03:37, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Albumchart references

[edit]

It's not just Scotland. You've got a brace alignment problem that's breaking all refname and refgroups. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Kww/albumchart&diff=529383161&oldid=529383056 fixes it for Scotland. You'll need to copy the same fix to each chart. I assume you have a test suite someplace to test against.—Kww(talk) 02:44, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I have it. And thank you very very much! I will look into it to fix it ASAP. — ΛΧΣ21 02:52, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Festivus for the rest of us!
Frank Costanza: "Many Christmases ago, I went to buy a doll for my son. I reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way."
Cosmo Kramer: "What happened to the doll?"
Frank Costanza: "It was destroyed. But out of that a new holiday was born: a Festivus for the rest of us!"
Kramer: "That must have been some kind of doll."
Frank Costanza: "She was."

DRN

[edit]

You left a note at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard#Leveson Inquiry that you were going to take that case. It's ancient by DRN standards. I closed it once because there had been no action on it at the article page and the filing editor appeared to have left WP, but he/she showed up and reopened the case. I'd like to see it either move ahead or be reclosed so the filer can move on to a RFC, but I'm reluctant to reclose it if you are really going to take it. Can I go ahead and close it or do you still plan to do something with it? Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 14:40, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. I was and am willing to take the case. I read part of the discussion on Dec. 23 and another part on Dec. 25. I have seen that several users involved stopped editing there so the discussion may be stalled. I didn't leave further comments because I was awaiting any response from any of the part involved to aknowledge that they were aware of my comment, which didn't happen. You can safely close it if they are going the RFC way. Otherwise, I can start to leave comments on it. Note: I was having personal issues too that stalled several of my current projects on WP. I apologize.ΛΧΣ21 18:11, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, not at all, please have at it or close it at your discretion, it's entirely your call. I just wanted to make sure you hadn't changed your mind about taking it. I don't know if they'll go RFC or not, I just suggested it and haven't had any response to that suggestion. Sorry about your real life issues and hope that they've cleared up. Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 20:34, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay :) I will finish my read of the case and start making comments today or tomorrow. I see that the main issue lies around the addition of a fact about how a 2000 page report of a case inquiry added a false name to the list of founders of a newspaper, and how this was treated by the media. I still have to fully get the grasp of the issue, but I expect to be ready today. Thanks TransporterMan and yes, thank god my personal issues have been solved by now, although some are still there...ΛΧΣ21 21:32, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

CIPR

[edit]

Thank you so much for your review. I still need to look into CIPR's advocacy for the regulation of lobbyists, but won't be able to until I get to my home computer where I can access my library's database. (this weekend)

Question: The sources you listed under History. One is already used, one is now added, one is a file I can't open and two [1][2] are primary. Regarding their Chartered status, the primary sources say: "the Government accepted the CIPR to be fully representative of the public relations industry." But I don't really trust that to be a fair and accurate portrayal coming from a primary source. On the other hand, both docs could be good sources to establish CIPR's position on controversial issues. Would we want to do that eventhough there are no secondary sources to back it up and demonstrate notability of CIPR's involvement in these issues? I know we're scraping the barrel for sources on this one... CorporateM (Talk) 21:14, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're very welcome, and happy holidays! Well, you can use primary sources to add more information to the article if third party sources are not available. As I said on the review, all that you have to do is neutralize the claims. If the source says "the Government accepted the CIPR to be fully representative of the public relations industry", you can write on the article that "the Government accepted the CIPR to be a representative entity of the public relations industry", which is also true, reads more neutral and avoids using the initial "fully" word. The two primary sources, Parliament.uk and IPO.gov.uk, I believe them to be, on some sort, secondary. Why? They are involved with the goverment, but not directly with the CIPR, but indirectly. But that's just me breaking my head :) — ΛΧΣ21 21:24, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yah, I can see it. CIPR created the document, but these government entities decided it was worth publishing. I like CIPR's tone in advocacy. Their documents say "we polled our members and this is our position" and the Chartered status provides weight that they have something legitimate worth hearing out. In comparison PRSA's advocacy on Wikipedia-related issues is much less righteous in my view.
I think that's it for now, until I can take a look at that one lobbying article and you can do your next wave of feedback. This is definitely a good learning experience, though I suspect where I have a COI, I would not get the same leeway on sourcing and it would be impossible for me to be as neutral anyway. I do what I can. CorporateM (Talk) 22:30, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You're doing a good job, and there is always a way to be neutral if you are willing to. This is just a matter of trial, reading and error. After a good amount of those, then you'll be able to be as neutral as you wish. I learned that a long time ago. I'll be awaiting further comments from you :) — ΛΧΣ21 22:34, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Where I have a COI I just write the first draft, educate the company on the rules and do the coding for them. I don't have control over the editorial. But if I can get companies to see value in a GA designation, I can use that to create higher standards. I'm thinking first draft, then PR, then GA. CorporateM (Talk) 12:54, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you're interested, my first two COI GA articles will most likely be James Goodnight and JMP (statistical software). Both are easy to do with a COI because the product and individual have such great reputations and no major controversies. They're both just at first-draft stage atm. CorporateM (Talk) 15:44, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I will take a look at 'em later. They seem to be in preliminary stages at the moment. I haven't taken a deep look into it. — ΛΧΣ21 20:58, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I think I've addressed the latest round. Let me know if I've missed anything. Thanks again for your thorough guidance! CorporateM (Talk) 18:48, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I will take a look today. The article still needs some improvements. I have to admit that I am taking this review a bit beyond the actual GA criteria, but I'm doing this so that you can learn the most :) — ΛΧΣ21 20:58, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I appreciate the patience and time. I would love to do FAs eventually, but I have to work up to it. Yah, I probably shouldn't have mentioned the two COI articles yet. I have offered first drafts on their relevant Talk pages, but they still have a ways to go. CorporateM (Talk) 04:30, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Amazing! Well, the first thing to do is see what you missed on your current FL candidacy and have them in mind. Of course, it was a damn hard work to learn all the requirements, but after you get into practice, you'll be an expert on it. You're welcome. By the way, I am chopping down the lead. Her personal information is not worthy on that list and it makes the lead longer than it should. take a look at this list: List of awards and nominations received by Ricardo Arjona, which is an awards and nominations featured list. That's how the lead should be, not too large, two paragraphs at most, and very precise. I am currently doing the modifications on the lead, so don't edit it to avoid edit conflicts :) — ΛΧΣ21 04:11, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry, I'm not going to edit until yours. Yes, I looked to that list. You are right, it don't have to too long. Okay, I'm done for now. Let me know if any reviewer leaves comments about the lead so I can fix them. Yes, I got your point. So, that's why I didn't added more info and just the pageantry details. Please, polish it a bit for the further help. Thanks for the help.—PKS:1142 · (TALK) 07:23, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe Okay. I will do another copyedit round tomorrow; I turned off my PC and when on my laptop I only discuss on talk pages and stuff—not making edits or writing. I will take a look at the sources tomorrow. Oh and don't worry about the FLC; my first nomination failed too, and I just withdrew one today too. It happens to everyone :) Regards. — ΛΧΣ21 07:29, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You had asked for references about the notability of LeRoy Bell as a songwriter for renowned names in the music industry. I have now responded on his article deletion talk page Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/LeRoy Bell which please refer to werldwayd (talk) 23:01, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just curious

[edit]

I don't usually ask these questions, but your signature prints to the screen as Lambda Chi Sigma 21. Out of idle curiosity, is that your Scroll Number? The Mysterious El Willstro (talk) 23:31, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Only if I knew that a scroll number is... I would be able to answer your question :) — ΛΧΣ21 23:45, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Judging by your signature, I was guessing you're a member of Lambda Chi Sigma. If 21 were your serial number within your chapter, that would explain your signature.
Of course, academic fraternities like the one I'm a lifetime member of myself generally don't memorize their membership serial numbers within the chapter, which is why Scrolls are only a big deal in social organizations. I don't even know whether Lambda Chi Sigma is social, service, or academic. The Mysterious El Willstro (talk) 02:32, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, interesting. My signature is a mathematical anagram (and a very difficult one, indeed). Shockingly, it guards relationship with a fraternity I have never heard of before. I find this very interesting, because I share the same views of that fraternity although I'm not a member. Regards! — ΛΧΣ21 02:45, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This is the first I've seen of a "non-collegiate" (or, in other words, not associated with any campuses) organization following the Greek Initial paradigm in its name and serial numbers of chapters (granted it calls its chapters "Tribes" much as Alpha Psi Omega calls its chapters "Casts"). Come to think of it, this might be grounds to create a new Article some time in the near future.
What exactly does the Lambda Chi Sigma 21 algorithm calculate?
Just in case you looked up the academic-type fraternity I already revealed that I'm in, I'm a Rho Beta Chapter Alumnus. The Mysterious El Willstro (talk) 10:01, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I did a little bit of research :) And, well, its hard to say, but it has to do with a computer graphics process called subsurface scattering, which is often used in the development of video games. — ΛΧΣ21 22:31, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Jennifer Lopez

[edit]

For the record I was not trying to scare you. I have submitted articles that were incorrectly passed before. We were just following orders from the GA review - doing our bit for Wikipedia. You pressed the rollback button asif we were mere vandals at play. Before this whole scenario becomes out of hand - maybe we should start talking - giving each other the respect we both deserve. How about that?Rain the 1 00:53, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. I was supposed to use the edit summary-enabled rollback but my hands worked against me. I know you are not a vandal and I realize that, for several reasons, I was a bit frustrated and upset, and I apologize because it has nothing to do with you or that discussion. I am open to talk about it, as you have seen on Hypnotico's talk. Let's just, stop reverting each other and start a peaceful discussion, shall we? I am 500% open for that. — ΛΧΣ21 01:09, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I also apologise. I was aware of your work prior to the “Hypnotico” discussion and liked it. I soon regretted reverting you and thought it best to regain perspective. I can understand why you were upset. It is never nice when ones work is criticised. I am certain we could find the middle ground. With Invading My Mind I think the information could just be retuned to relate to the song better. Even though it is a GA, you can always improve and the great thing about Wikipedia is that each editor brings something different to the table. So please do not think I want this "my way or no way" as it has been suggested.Rain the 1 02:19, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies accepted :) We both did things we should have not done. I enjoy when my work is criticized and ways of improvement are showcased, regardless of the article's assessment (FA not included, ofc). I believe that talking we can solve this issue, although I also think that the best course of action is to hold the discussion until January. I am dealing with an accumulated amount of frustration caused by several users and things that had happened (not talking about you or Binksternet) and I think I need to stay calmed, relax, and maybe get a drink or take a trip to Bahamas. — ΛΧΣ21 02:30, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
How about you just take the damn article to GAR then and stop with this "it's MY way or I'm taking it to GAR" threat. The reviewer said that in the review, and if you notice, I replied, and he no left no further comments about it, and passed the article. That would mean he changed his thinking of it. Oh, and to keep the talk page of "Hypnotico" less messy, I'll reply to you here. You are taking about multiple different articles, complaining about background sections. If you have a problem with that, as I said, take it somewhere where you can actually apply it and not just use your opinion. You continue to remove information from the article, when there's already a damn discussion going on about whether or not it should be included. That's disruptive behavior and I will not take any of these threats from you no longer. "So nice try"? Oh, please! I left a pretty calm statement asking this to be taken somewhere else, as it is not just a problem with the specific article, which you actually stated so yourself, but it's a "nice try"? I believe I even stated that I would be ever so happy to oblige if such a guideline was formed, but you just continue. Also, accusing me of making this uncivil, when you are actually the one doing that. I asked for a nice calm conversation, and you've made just the opposite.  — Statυs (talk, contribs) 01:24, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Status - here me and Hahc21 decide to friendly and refocus on the article. Then you hijack it with a new tirade - much like the discussion at "Hypnotico". To explain the "nice try" comment.. When editors who held a different opinion totalled 4 - you attempted to direct the discussion to the parent wikiproject. I have seen it all before. Also - please avoid using profanity when editing my talk page.Rain the 1 02:19, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the 2013 WikiCup!

[edit]

Hello Hahc21, and welcome to the 2013 WikiCup! Your submissions' page is here. The competition begins at midnight UTC. The first round will last until the end of February, at which point the top 64 scorers will advance to the second round. We will be in touch at the end of every month, and signups are going to remain open until the end of January; if you know of anyone else who may like to take part, please let them know! A few reminders:

  • The rules can be found here. There have been a few changes from last year, which are listed on that page.
  • Anything you submit must have been nominated and promoted in 2013, and you need to have completed significant work upon it in 2013. (The articles you review at good article reviews does not need to have been nominated in 2013, but you do need to have started the review in 2013.) We will be checking.
  • If you feel that another competitor is breaking the rules or abusing the competition in some way, please let a judge know. Please do not remove entries from the submissions' pages of others yourself.
  • Don't worry about calculating precisely how many points everything is worth. The bot will do that. The bot may occasionally get something wrong- let a judge know, or post on the WikiCup talk page if that happens.
  • Please try to be prompt in updating submissions' pages so that they can be double-checked.

Overall, however, don't worry, and have fun. It doesn't matter if you make the odd mistake; these things happen. Questions can be asked on the WikiCup talk page. Good luck! J Milburn and The ed17 18:17, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
