Welcome!

Some cookies to welcome you!

Welcome to Wikipedia, Ian@perth! I am Marcus Qwertyus and have been editing Wikipedia for quite some time. Thank you for your contributions. I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to Wikipedia! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or by typing {{helpme}} at the bottom of this page. I love to help new users, so don't be afraid to leave a message! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome!

Your recent edits

[edit]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 17:14, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your email problem

[edit]

Sorry, if I was unclear- yes you must provide an email address for confirmation. What is discouraged is posting your email address in a post at the help desk, because it is highly visible, and likely to be scooped up by program searching to create spam lists. I was trying to avoid the possibility that you might post it there. In fact, I encourage you to remove the email you posted at someone's talk page. I now see that your email contains only one @, I didn't know what it was, but was merely speculating, in case you decided to create one for wikipedia - many people do have multiple email addresses.--SPhilbrickT 17:55, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The e-mail address saved in your preferences is only visible to you. I have saved the address you gave me in the preferences for User:PrimeHunter2 without problems. There was no error message and it said "A confirmation e-mail has been sent to the nominated e-mail address." Try again and be careful to write the address correctly. First click in the address field, press Ctrl+A to mark everything, and then the Delete key to delete it. This should get rid of any nondisplayed illegal characters that might have sneaked in. Then write the address again. Don't copy-paste it from somewhere but manually type it. I have worked at the help desk for years and don't recall ever seeing this problem. Some users say the confirmation mail doesn't arrive but you reported an error message saying it couldn't be sent. That's new to me. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:39, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome from me as well, I already had noticed and slightly wikified your edits on the Surin page before - though I am not that much active here anymore as I was in past, I still monitor the Thai province and district pages. Just be bold in adding whatever seems relevant to the articles, there'll always be someone checking it later and improving it further.

Most of the time I spend with researching those topics I wrote on my blog, and only sometimes the results can become incorporated into an article here. Since you already read and replied there, it seems we have at least some overlapping interests. So I look forward to your further contributions here, as well as to more comments on my blog. andy (talk) 20:59, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
