National Commercial Bank of Scotland

Jonathan

As you started the NCB page you might want to look at its Talk Page.

Regards

Bebington (talk) 12:21, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

That was meant to be National Bank of Scotland first.

Regards Bebington (talk) 12:29, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello Bebington, thanks for your note. I'd be only too pleased for someone with more knowledge to take on these articles and improve them with more solid references. I started them as much as place-holders as anything, since I found a number of red links relating to them. Will be interested to see how you get on. Thanks, Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 13:50, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Jonathan

All done - not very long but I think it's probably enough. Regards Bebington (talk) 16:50, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

Re National Bank of Scotland, I noticed that you changed "appears to have been acquired" to "was acquired". Out of interest, there is no reference to the Bank of Glasgow in either of the official histories. As far as I can tell from Checkland. a Bank of Galsgow Company was formed but then the promoters threw in their lot (and money) with the National Bank. My reading is that the National probably acquired the paperwork rather than a bank in any normal sense of the word hence "appears". I would not have bothered mentioning it but for the RBS online site which, I think, gives the wrong impression. Anyway, thanks for tidying up the reference.

Regards Bebington (talk) 10:38, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

No worries. I changed it to reflect the source that is cited, since the online source is reasonably clear that it was acquired. If you have another source which gives an alternative impression then that can be cited also. Thanks, Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 11:20, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

King's Wark, Leith

I wonder if you would have a look at John Chisholm (soldier), as time permits, and fix anything that seems necessary. I thought the article would also serve for the historical King's Wark in Leith, which this character was in charge of for 50 years, and so I made "King's Wark" its redirect. All a bit ambitious. I'm a bit perplexed about adding co-ordinates, (at present locating in sight of the present pub but other side of bridge).Unoquha (talk) 15:10, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

You are invited to the first ever Glasgow Wiki Meetup which will take place at The Sir John Moore, 260-292 Argyle Street, City of Glasgow G2 8QW on Sunday 12 May 2013 from 1.00 pm. If you have never been to one, this is an opportunity to meet other Wikipedians in an informal atmosphere for Wiki and non-Wiki related chat and for beer or food if you like. Experienced and new contributors are all welcome. This event is definitely not restricted just to discussion of Scottish topics. Bring your laptop if you like and use the free Wifi or just bring yourself. Even better, bring a friend! Click the link for full details. Looking forward to seeing you. Help

Jonathan,

You've helped me before; I have a stub for Affleck Castle drafted, but can't sort out how to stop the original redicrection to Monikie. Could you give me a steer please?Horis (talk) 16:41, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the help.Horis (talk) 11:35, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

Scottish National War Memorial

Looks like you've done what's needed. I had thought he'd been informed WP was not a suitable place already; hopefully your "May I suggest that you find an outlet other than Wikipedia for your speculations?" is clear enough. Andrew Gray (talk) 12:07, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

These are all I think very big problems (the matters relating to the Scottish National War Memorial). I hope those interested may have a look at my own suggestions on Talk Page on the Scottish National War Memorial section on this site as just recently by myself and this intended at a European level and as from the Second World War. IT IS ALMOST I THINK TERRIBLE LIKE WARS THEMSELVES AS FROM THE SECOND WORLD WAR. Peter Judge — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.13.67.44 (talk) 15:41, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi Jonathan, I was reading through the article on Dirleton Castle and noticed that you put it together. I don't suppose you still have Tabraham's 2007 book to hand, do you? Nev1 (talk) 09:55, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

Yes I do, what can I help you with? Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 11:49, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
Page 17 is used as a reference for the bit about the prison. Is there any chance I could trouble you to scan it and email it to me? I'm doing a bit of research on castle prisons and Direlton cropped up as an example, but sadly I don't have the Tabraham book. Nev1 (talk) 12:09, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
No worries I'll dig it out tonight. Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 12:46, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

Edinburgh Castle

Hi Jonathan. Thanks for your message regarding the EC article review. I had a look at the reviewer's suggested points for amendment last night, none of which were contentious, and actioned quite a few, especially those dealing with the history. Like all WP changes, they'll need to be revisited before the page appears re-settled. There are still several loose ends. I've flagged up the statements that are unsupported by references. It shouldn't be a problem coming up with these, except perhaps in the case of the 'Seven Sisters' where the precise source may prove elusive (but for which we can probably find a replacement). I'm off to Perth today and will look again at the page when I get back in the evening. Regards. Kim Traynor | Talk 06:34, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Following your latest message, I think I'm finished now. I've been through the whole page like a fine toothcomb and have addressed all the points raised by the reviewer (plus some more), with a few exceptions which I'll list presently on the GA page. I suggest you look over the page to see if anything jars, and where you'd like to revert any particular detail, I'd suggest you do a new edit (rather than an undo) because I've done multiple style tweaks at one time within each paragraph. Kim Traynor | Talk 10:09, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
Better still, I should follow your example of striking out the points I've dealt with; only it's so long since I've done that, I've forgotten how to! Can you advise me on the formatting, so I can proceed asap? Kim Traynor | Talk 10:23, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
I've just checked the Ptolemy map which shows 'Alauna' a little bit north of where one might feel inclined to place Berwick-on-Tweed. This presumably indicates the main settlement of the Votadini, but given the map's unreliable accuracy, it begs the question whether the intended location was Traprain. Harris just states that Ptolemy used the name to refer to "the town of the Votadini". (Bizarrely, a glossary of the map's placenames on one internet site identifies it as Dumbarton Rock!). I've changed EC page accordingly. Don't know if you feel the reference to Roman Britain, which I've discarded, should be reinstated. The paragraph content makes it clear which period is being discussed. Kim Traynor | Talk 10:46, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
I've added two references to the Wars of Independence paragraph but the citation style is not consistent with the existing - if you'd like to check and bring them into line. Kim Traynor | Talk 12:14, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
I've been unable to track down the "Venetian" reference to the 'Seven Sisters' in my own library and after a trawl on the internet. I suspect the text paraphrases something said by the Venetian ambassador to Henry VIII, Andrea Trevisano; or it may be from the Venice state papers, reporting Howard's admiration for them. I've replaced the unsourced material with sourced material which can always be reverted if the "Venetian" source is found. Kim Traynor | Talk 21:29, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

A request

Hello Jonathan,

It is some time since I last contacted you and I have not contributed to Wikipedia for a couple of years now but I intend to do so again in the near future. The reason I write now is to request a photograph of yours to insert in a no profit book I am working on at the moment on the communities which exist on the course of the River Clyde. That photo is of Dalzell House at Motherwell. If it is ok to use it, can you tell me how I should attribute it?

Thank you in anticipation

James (Jimmydenham (talk) 16:38, 20 October 2013 (UTC))

Hi James, good to hear from you, replied via email. Thanks, Jonathan Oldenbuck (talk) 10:06, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
