ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 03:01, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Pending changes reviewer granted

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Pending change review

Hello, and welcome to pending change reviewing, (I don't know if you already know this or not) just a quick note that accept logs are really hard to find, and the average editor won't read the summary attached, so leaving a talk page message might be better in this situation. Feel free to ask me anything about reviewing (I might not be able to answer all of them). I really like your userboxes, you said that you want an userbox designed for you on your user page, you might want to contact one of these userbox makers. Barnstars are distributed for the (I think) top 5 most active PCRs every month. Thanks for reading my message, I'm surprised you don't get more messages on your talk page, and have fun reviewing changes. Justiyaya 16:02, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi @Justiyaya: thanks for taking the time to leave me a message on my talk page (I'm way too lonely so no one ever drops by to visit). When reviewing changes, I have always tried to find my summary that I wrote in the public history of that page, but have never been able to find it (I thought maybe I was missing something), so that advice was certainly helpful. I have already posted my request for a userbox over at Wikipedia talk:Userboxes/Ideas and am awaiting a reply from someone. Thanks for letting me know about the PCR barnstar as well; I'll make sure to work towards that if I can. Thanks again! Liamyangll (talk to me! | My contribs!) 23:45, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
Ah, I found your review log at Special:AdvancedReviewLog, hopefully the link helped :D Justiyaya 00:33, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
@Justiyaya: Oh yes, that did the trick. Thanks for that! Liamyangll (talk to me! | My contribs!) 01:17, 7 August 2021 (UTC)

Welcome to The Wikipedia Adventure!

Hi Liamyangll! We're so happy you wanted to play to learn, as a friendly and fun way to get into our community and mission. I think these links might be helpful to you as you get started.

Rollback granted

Hi Liamyangll, after reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep in mind these things when using rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

For some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! ~ ToBeFree (talk) 17:24, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the permission, @ToBeFree: Even though I did accidentally rollback a good-faith comment right after realising I got the right (now that won't happen again), I would like to thank you again for believing in me to handle rollback permissions. I'll try not to let the community down. Liamyangll (talk to me! | My contribs!) 22:59, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

Zembîlfiroş and Batel

Hi , I need your help , you can this articles , this user Mugsalot change every thing and change location in Zembîlfiroş . I see this is vandalism work , Please help me , I wait your answer , thank you Hamaredha (talk) 20:37, 26 August 2021 (UTC)

@Hamaredha: eye I have read the above message. I will reply when I have a moment. Liamyangll (talk to me! | My contribs!) 22:54, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for waiting, Hamaredha. I am happy to help with your dispute and will try to sort this out using generally preferred styles (see WP:MoS). However, your case is considered edit warring, which means both you and Mugsalot continuously revert each others' edits almost beyond the 3RR (Three-revert rule). I encourage both of you to consider dispute resolution next time you face a situation like this. I cannot stop you from editing the page further and make helpful contributions; however, please stop warring about this particular content: I'll deal with it, and bring in more editors if really necessary. I may also need both of your input. Thanks! Liamyangll (talk to me! | My contribs!) 23:09, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
I've gone over the controversial revisions and have determined that User:Mugsalot has a point for Zembîlfiroş. He states that you do not need an infobox for a story work, which is true - you don't need a settlement infobox for it to describe its location. Therefore, I am going to leave the page Zembîlfiroş as is, as I see no issues with the current version. I will now review Batel.
I also realised that you tried to change the name of the first occurrence of Zembîlfiroş to a fully romanised version of the name, but according to the Manual of Style, diacritics are permitted if most sources can agree with this name. Liamyangll (talk to me! | My contribs!) 00:03, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
I would also like to inform you of the true definition of vandalism. You should only use the word "vandalism" when it is perfectly clear that someone is disturbing the Wiki intentionally, with disruptive content. However, trying to correct content and information, even if engaged in an edit war, is not considered vandalism. While you were both committing disruptive behaviour, WP:AGF states that we cannot assume that any of you were trying to harm the project. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to keep asking or reach out at the Teahouse. Thanks! Liamyangll (talk to me! | My contribs!) 23:27, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
I've also taken a look at Batel, I feel that, again, Mugsalot's reversions were acceptable in this situation, and the information they gave in the article's talk page was the correct thing to do when reverting controversial information. In future, if you want to make any more of these types of edits, please provide a clearer edit summary (avoid general terms such as "please do not change") to inform us what the reason for the edit was, or give some kind of information (not just a request for the other party to explain themselves) in the talk page. Thanks! Liamyangll (talk to me! | My contribs!) 00:03, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
Liamyangll, thank you. In that case, I would appreciate if you were to restore my amended version of Batel as I would prefer to avoid edit warring. Mugsalot (talk) 07:50, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
Since Hamaredha has not replied as of yet (even though they edited the page further after I pinged them, without replying), Mugsalot, I'll revert their changes back to your revision. I appreciate you reaching out to other editors and not willing to revert further to comply with the 3RR. Thank you for letting me know, and please feel free to let me know if any other problems arise. Liamyangll (talk to me! | My contribs!) 09:25, 27 August 2021 (UTC)

Liamyangll, Thank you for everything , thank you for help . I accepted your decide for this article, Hamaredha (talk) 09:42, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
Hi, in Deraluk article , I added Kurdish and Arabic names for the town , this user (Mugsalot) remove my edits , where is problem if we added Kurdish and Arabic names , can you see article , thank you , Hamaredha (talk) 10:40, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
Hi Hamaredha, Mugsalot did describe the reason for their edit in the edit summary, in case you didn't realise. It is not always necessary to add translated languages in infoboxes of articles if there is a reason against it. Liamyangll (talk to me! | My contribs!) 11:13, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
In Batel article , I added Kurdish and Arabic names for the town, this user (Mugsalot) remove my edits , you can see article ,Hamaredha (talk) 11:18, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
Since Mugsalot mentioned previously that there was no Assyrian population in Batel, I suppose that's why it's then OK to add Arabic and Kurdish as native languages. However, this is just my speculation, Mugsalot might need to clarify that when they return. Liamyangll (talk to me! | My contribs!) 11:20, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
Liamyangll, Thank you for help , now if you visit Deraluk you can not see many Assyrian population. Deraluk town now 90 % are Kurdish people live there , may be before 30 years or 40 years ago to many Assyrian group were live in Deraluk but now is a very small Assyrian group live there . Regards , Hamaredha (talk) 11:29, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
Hamaredha, please provide vsources for Deraluk if you have any as I would be interested to read them. I think it's superfluous to add languages to the infobox if they are already in the introduction and contentious as to what can be considered native languages, hence why I removed them from Deraluk, Batel, and Batifa. Mugsalot (talk) 11:46, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
Liamyangll, This user (Mugsalot) remove natives languages to the infobox (Deraluk and Batel), why ?, now if you visit Duhok province you see a small Assyrian population live in villages around province . Batel and Deraluk now 90% speak Kurdish language, may be outside those town you see some Assyrian village , you must put natives languages to the infobox because people live there speak Kurdish and little group speak Arabic , you must help me (Mugsalot), why you don't want that . Are you from Iraqi Kurdistan ??? , Are you visit Deraluk and Batel??? . (Mugsalot) Do you have sources about Deraluk and Batel ???, (Liamyangll) you must help me, thank you Hamaredha (talk) 12:00, 27 August 2021 (UTC)
Hamaredha, I have no connections with Iraq or Kurdistan and have never been to these areas, therefore I can't confirm what you're saying; even if I could, it would still be considered original research, which the community generally doesn't accept. If you have information to give, ideally provide a reliable source for it and put it in the articles, or at least tell us about the source. Thanks, Liamyangll (talk to me! | My contribs!) 00:39, 28 August 2021 (UTC)
Liamyangll,Hi, I do not have any original research because if you search in Internet webs and books about Deraluk , Batel and another small towns in Duhok Province in Iraqi Kurdistan you can not find many information about this towns , thank you for your time , I hope you get nice day . Best regards, Hamaredha (talk) 07:33, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
Hamaredha, I think you might be misunderstood. Original research is research you collected yourself or by someone else, but have not published it online on a reliable source. Unfortunately, if you have no good sources, then you most likely won't be able to put the information on an article. Wikipedia's second pillar states that "personal experiences, interpretations and opinions do not belong on Wikipedia". Liamyangll (talk to me! | My contribs!) 07:49, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
Liamyangll,I understand what you mean and I visited this towns in Duhok Province in north of Iraq before few months ago . I saw what happened there , I hope you are doing what the correct for this articles , thank you very much, Hamaredha (talk) 08:01, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
I added pictures in Batel and Deraluk articles , this pictures are my own works , thank you , Hamaredha (talk) 08:20, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

Emoji showing a worried face Hi Liamyangll, I'm Vanamonde93. You'll likely not be pleased about this but I have removed some of your edits because they reveal too much personally identifiable information about you. We have a policy of protecting editors' safety by hiding such information if they share it. I'm really sorry about having to suppress your edits, and I know it's annoying, but it's for the best. Please don't re-add the information. For some useful information on privacy and safety, you can take a look at Wikipedia:Guidance for younger editors and Wikipedia:On privacy, confidentiality and discretion. Thank you, and sorry for messing about with your edits! Vanamonde (Talk) 09:26, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi Vanamonde93, no worries. I will not question oversight edits to my pages. I may be a little reckless occasionally and sometimes don't think too much about privacy. Your redactions have taught me a lesson. Thanks! Liamyangll (talk to me! | My contribs!) 11:01, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Barnstar of Diplomacy
Looking at the the Zembîlfiroş and Batel section above, you did a great job facilitating an amicable resolution for a content dispute between two editors. Not an easy feat! :) S0091 (talk) 21:16, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
Thanks so much for the barnstar, S0091! Liamyangll (talk to me! | My contribs!) 00:15, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

Other news

June election: Jonesey95 was chosen to continue as lead coordinator, assisted by Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis.

New maintenance template added to our project scope: After a short discussion in June, we added {{cleanup tense}} to the list of maintenance templates that adds articles to the Guild's copy editing backlog categories. This change added 198 articles, spread over 97 months of backlog, to our queue. We processed all of those articles except for those from the three or four most recent months during the July backlog elimination drive (Here's a link to a "tense" discussion during the drive).

Progress report: As of 18:26, 24 September 2021 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have processed 468 requests since 1 January and there were 60 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog of articles tagged for copy-editing stood at 433 (see monthly progress graph above).

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis.

To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.
