Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia with this username. This is because your username, Mike Hocks Hucker, does not meet our username policy.
Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below) and continue editing.
A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.
You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:
  1. Adding {{unblock-un|Michael Hucker}} below. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "Email this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you think that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below this notice, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. kelapstick(bainuu) 15:41, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I apologise for creating the hoax article and wasting everyone's time. I was surprised to find In was indefinitely blocked though. A lesser block would still have had the effect of stopping me doing this. This is the first time I have created such an article and I will not do so again. Mike Hocks Hucker (talk) 11:42, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

This doesn't explain why you tried to harm Wikipedia. You clearly knew it was inappropriate. You've shown you can't be trusted but haven't provided any compelling reason for us to unblock you. Yamla (talk) 11:49, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

Hello, Yamla. I did it as a bit of a joke. I realise that was a mistake and should not have done it. I realise I have breached the trust of Wikipedia users. I sincerely apologise for this and will not act in this way again. I do want to contribute in a useful way to Wikipedia and would appreciate being unblocked to demonstrate that I can edit without being disruptive.

From an essay: As the old saying goes "Give 'em enough rope, and they'll hang themselves." Sometimes this is the best approach when dealing with blocked users. If they are pleading to be unblocked and swearing up and down that they understand and won't repeat whatever it was that got them blocked, rather than arguing the finer points of the original block or demanding further explanation, it may be better to just unblock them and make it clear that this is their last chance. If they mean what they say, then unblocking will be the right thing to do, and if they don't, they'll be blocked again soon enough. Michael Hucker (talk) 12:25, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
