[edit]

Hello. Regarding this recent edit of yours,[1] I noticed you attempted to add an item directly to a category page.

In Wikipedia, we do not add articles to a category by editing the category page, we add them by editing the individual articles' pages and linking the category from there. Please see Wikipedia:FAQ/Categorization#How do I add an article to a category? For newer editors, it's understandably a counter-intuitive system.

Category pages are not intended to be exhaustive lists. They are navigation aids; merely groupings of related, existing English Wikipedia pages.

To categorize an article, first make sure it actually belongs to the category. Then, go to the article and add the category at the bottom of the page. To remove an article from a category, edit the article and remove the category. For instructions on how to do all this using VisualEditor, see Help:VisualEditor § Editing categories.

For further detailed information, see Help:Category and Wikipedia:Categorization. Let me know if you need any assistance or have any questions. Cheers! --DB1729talk 04:57, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I should have pointed out a couple things about your recent edit. One of the films you linked is already in the category and has been for some time. See here[2] for how King and Country was added.

You can do the same yourself for the other you mentioned. Go to the page The Eagle and the Hawk (1933 film) and edit the bottom-most section "External links". Find the existing category links and add [[Category:Anti-war films about World War I]] to the group. That's it. You can check back at the category page to see if it appears under E for "Eagle" as it is default sorted that way. Good luck and happy editing! DB1729talk 14:17, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much! Nautilirio (talk) 18:39, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for letting me know! I'm glad you were able to do it. Now you know how to categorize:)
But also this has given me some confidence that my above explanation is understandable; at least enough for some editor's to get it. You'd be surprised how many people are totally baffled by the above. So much so, I was sure my wording was the problem, which I have tweaked several times over the past year. Could probably be more concise still.
I must ask, do you think you could have figured it out no problem from my first post only? Or was it not clear until you read my second post? It would be very helpful for me to know. DB1729talk 20:36, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think I could've understood it just fine from the first reply, but the example in the 2nd post was helpful too. :-] Nautilirio (talk) 18:28, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
