Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Nicks3123. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 16:48, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is an article for an open-source framework which is distributed freely and no profit or money is made directly from it. While I am the main contributor, others have contributed to the framework freely of their time, as have I, over the years. This article, which has also been edited by others, has been up for over 6 years without a COI tag. Its contents are about as factual as they can be. Due to those facts and the topic of the article being open-source and non-profit, is it possible to remove the COI tag? Or, do you see any egregious bias within the article that should be corrected? If the latter is the case, would you be able to refer me to the offending content so it can be properly revised? Nicks3123 (talk) 17:32, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The sources do not meet Wikipedia's minimum requirements. If I had put the article up for deletion instead of simply tagging it it would probably be deleted in this state. Many conflicts of interest are not financial - the mere fact that you aren't making money 'directly from it' does not mean you should not follow Wikipedia's guidelines on this.
