Dates in URLs, autosummary[edit]

Just an FYI, currently this script doesn't discern between dates in prose and templates and those in URLs. It should be simple to write a heuristic that catches at least *some* such instances, shouldn't it?

Also, could you add an auto-summary to the script (something like "convert ISO dates to MDY/DMY (script-assisted)" (where MDY/DMY would change depending on which replace function was used))? Thanks in advance! ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 03:29, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I'm glad to see someone is interested in one of my scripts. I will be leaving very soon for a period of two years and so I really don't have time to provide much more support for the tools I've made. I did hack an edit summary into this script at one time. Feel free to make your own copy that has edit summaries, prose/template heuristics, and whatever else you can dream up. Yep, I saw the edit summary you originally had in there. TBH, even though it was sub-optimal, I can't really see how it was a hack, but in any case, I probably will make my own copy (in which case, do you mind if I link it from yours?) to play around with some of that stuff. Lastly, hope you enjoy your two-year wikibreak, and aren't too surprised by how much Wikipedia will undoubtedly have changed by the time you return! =) ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 17:33, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New version[edit]

Don't know when you'll ever see this, but whenever you do, just so you know, I copied this script to my userspace and, with lots of help from User:GregU, pretty much rewrote the whole thing - have a look! My version of the script adds an edit summary and skips dates in URLs and wikilinks, and it offers some slightly more verbose error messages. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 19:53, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
