Aquinas College, Perth

Hey Doctor =) you seem to be pretty with it, so i was wondering if you could review my article on Aquinas College, Perth at Wikipedia:Peer review/Aquinas College, Perth/archive4 , I have spent a considerable amount of time on this article and have been lacking in the feedback dept. Thanks =) Smbarnzy 12:58, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

I can understand why you are at a loss, dw. The reason that the highway is attached to the school page, as part of the land (upto the mt henry bridge) was owned by Aquinas College, Perth and then sold to the govt so that they could build the kwinana fwy. Smbarnzy 13:01, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
I am willing for you to be ruthless and rip the shit out of my article, i dont care - i just want feedback, =) thanks. Smbarnzy 13:04, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
I understand what you are saying, but im just saying what i feel and being honest about the situation - and what i have learned from this experiment is never to work with admin (hesp) (gnangarra is aws to work with). and that you should only make pages when admin think you should - but sometimes that doesnt work (gnangarra suggested the daughter articles for the Aquinas page. Thanks for your input - how should i say it next time? less or more swearing? Smbarnzy 14:05, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
You are probarbly right, but i think Hesperian should consider this - "Try to discourage others from being uncivil, and be careful to avoid offending people unintentionally" - from the civilty in a nutshell section. He should discuss changes before making them. Not change them, especially when they can see that what they have done in the past has caused other users alot of issues. Smbarnzy 14:14, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for ur help - read my revised comment on his page - is it ok? Smbarnzy 14:28, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
Yeh man, i crossed it all out - coz if i delete it then ill get in truble for that, so i crossed it out and revised my comment and made it all nice etc. so there is now no problem, i have agreed to mediate with hesp on our issues, so yea. Issue will be resolved and we will all move on. Thanks Smbarnzy 14:40, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Freeway

Which freeway are you talking about, I'm still lost in the Nullabor, havent been able to confirm claim of article in Xpress ask at AfD but not answered, suppose it doesnt matter as the consensus will keep. Think since this article is aceptable insert all trade type shows that occur in perth Gnangarra 13:06, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Putting up a shingle think the next couple of days are going to see very little action from the staion hands, something about driving cattle cross the sand flats. No problem. I should have crossposted the Q there myself. Thanks. —Moondyne 13:52, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Kepatihan

I noticed your complaint earlier (somewhere in the archives) about how kepatihan was a page about the musical notation. (It's my fault, I made the page). I moved it to Kepatihan notation to make room for the kepatihan proper if you'd like to write it. If you run into other things related to gamelan music that have other meanings, you maybe should ask me as I've created a number of them, and most gamelan concepts are named after something else. Watchlist

Have you ever noticed the link at the top of your watchlist that says "Hide bot edits"? Comes in useful at times like this. Hesperian 23:52, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

As you would have seen from my latest spat, I am very strongly opposed to the deletion of stubs just because they're short. There's a problem with the whole speedy deletion thing: admins are given very narrowly defined criteria under which they are allowed to shoot articles on sight, instead of seeking community consensus. They then proceed to interpret these criteria as broadly as possible.
  • e.g. the community gets fed up with having to take articles that say "Bill Bloggs is a student at Some High School" through AfD, so they give the admins permission to shoot "non-notable" articles on sight. But then admins start deleting well-referenced articles on historical figures, just because there is no clear claim to notability.
  • e.g. the community gets fed up with having to take articles entitled Bill Bloggs that say nothing but "Bill Bloggs" through AfD, so they give the admins permission to shoot "no content" articles on sight. But then admins start deleting very short stubs.
  • e.g. the community gets fed up with having to take pages of advertising through AfD, so they give the admins permission to shoot "blatant advertising" articles on sight. But then admins start deleting articles on notable events and places, just because the creator mixed some advertorial in among the factual content.
It is very frustrating to me. Hesperian 02:24, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

SA Garratt

Thanks, I have been picking it up lately because of it's articles about SA narrow gauge, but I'll make a special effort to get this one --Michael Johnson 02:02, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Swinging cats

I only partially follow you message; please explain... (Caniago 10:23, 11 January 2007 (UTC))

Thanks, all is now clear. For a moment I though your feline friends had been buried in Yogja :-) Are royal pets buried at Imogiri? (Caniago 07:00, 12 January 2007 (UTC))
The Minang eat their horses, apparently its a delicacy. I must try it when I'm there next. The Indo-Aust article needs alot of work; maybe a candidate for colab of the week given the nationality of the people here. (Caniago 10:44, 13 January 2007 (UTC))
Well, I think you and the 2 other indo amigos rank higher in number of edits, so I'm not that outstanding :-) You seem to know whats going around here before everyone else. You're watch list must be huge. (Caniago 10:53, 13 January 2007 (UTC))

South Perth shenanigans

Just got GA. Oh, i forgot, you don't like these general articles. You'd prefer something on Pramoedya's 3rd chapter of a story about the 2nd string of Javanese Gamelan string instrument owned by a dukun. ;-) Merbabu 13:30, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

No worries, Myanw beat me to it. Not much you can do about those. —Moondyne 15:27, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm starting to run out of patience with SPerth and Salter Pt editors. I just discovered an AC boy added another swag of copyvio history into WC, leaving two hist sections after I copyedited it all out a couple of months ago. I guess its rivalry. —Moondyne 15:39, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

My current gripe

is bots. Incremental changes that are a nightmare. And beardless youth for jockeys. I had a quote changed. Poor dear got a serve on his talk where I found many other similar complaints. Unreviewed automation, I need an ArnieBot to terminate it. Fred 15:52, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

That is a good use for bots. Fred
I think it is extended version which I don't have. Will ask Gn. I do prefer speaking to the jockey. I made one fix it himself. Like rubbing a puppies nose in his own mess. I was cranky that day.

Night then. Fred

your question

Sure. The link is part of a multi-language cross wiki campaign see [1] or Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Spam#cross-wiki_spammer:_xs4all.nl.2F.7Ewichm_and_members.chello.nl.2Fa.wichmann and looks certain to be added to the sitewide blacklist. If you think it has value and isn't a shame please say? --BozMo talk 14:47, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
Looking closer at the content the website listed appears to have copied its content from [[2]]. Would you be happy if I replaced the link with this one?--BozMo talk 14:52, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
Actually ... you may have meant the link I removed from Javanese beliefs ? in which case I apologise, I cannot see that the content is anywhere else on the web. I need to go and talk to the people who do the blacklists. In the meantime I am putting it back. Sorry again for not taking enough care. --BozMo talk 15:10, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
Despite my mild protest the site blacklist has now gone through so links we want to keep need to go through a whitelist process too. Sorry (but the overall case against this site is strong) --BozMo talk 20:21, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Welcomes

Always happy to help by supporting your 'welcomes'. This need not be an article I have associated myself with. I'm interested in anything and can tackle NPOV and CSB on a basic level. Of course, WP:WA pages come first. I think poor old freo needs a makeover, the opening paragraph reeks of some past wrangle over pronunciation. FA candidate?

I would give our new friend a little while then ditch the hole batch. Fred 16:01, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

You caught that little pun, did you? On the subject of meetings, what is happenning with the 'meet-up'? (Or were you referring to my dig at the 'new boy'.) Fred 01:44, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
P.S. 'b/iu'  ?
should have let it slide it, but I thought it may be useful jargon. I will make something up, Hmmm, beware!/initiate user. Fred 05:59, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
you obviously anticipated my need for welcome template. A hand written line is nice but probably inefficient considering attrition. I want to make something simple but not be mistaken for a bot. Or admin candidate! Coud not find your suggestion in dirt box. Fred
Ta. Perhaps i'm complicating things but I coud draft one for a WP:WA flavoured welcome when its articles are changed. Might make mischief makers think twice about what they can get away with and gain participants.
No No. That was one from the other night. Did it on the fly from a new users own page, to flatter him. Slightly cacky green. Needs rewording. Time we got something similar for WP:WA welcome and page. Have a look at

Doesn't ring any bells here. If you can give me some clues it may though 'cause the grey matters is not what it used to be. The S W-S article has an AfD on it now, but I will watch. —Moondyne 10:38, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Kate Lilley's flickering parentage

hi, hope u had a good xms nwyrs etc. re lilley, do you know otherwise? as their only edit, it looks a little like a random test [[3]]. also, i can no longer find the source for my original claim that of hewett's daughter (oops). will try to check further. ben   bsnowball  11:02, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Hmm...

It is almost like paddling upstream trying to enforce WP:NN, WP:V and WP:RS on some articles. At least it's a battle we (in the Australian place articles) appear to be winning in small bits. Take a peek at AfD if you're curious. Orderinchaos78 11:45, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Water rations

The captain says we can only drink 1 pint a day or our kidneys will pack in. The compass drawn on the deck reassures me his eastward tack toward Fremantle will avail the crew of fresh water. In my darker moments however, I wish we had you as navigator. Fred 12:16, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

lists

Thanks for the KP warning, I reverted the removal of the bali memorial, As for the AfD it just plain nonsense the article defines itself as being 20 beaches from cottesloe to two rocks and areas inland and extends 110k to lanclin, by this it means everthing NOR including the Swan Valley, and Gingin. Theres just no way to clean up such an Ambigious area which alters to suit the companies client list. Gnangarra 14:21, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

And the Perth stuff was such a mess, the list is a hodge podge of nonsense which will attract flies quicker than fresh barkers' eggs on a summer day, as demostrated. Gnangarra 14:25, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
But Gold coast, Queensland stays because it is an LGA? Weak keep on this shabby article, sats. Is Swan Valley up next? Why isn't perth project dealing with this? Fred 16:26, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Sunset Coast.

No worries. I came across the article and it really didnt read well, let alone make any sense. Better to have tried than to just let an article get afd'd. When you say "I never heard of that expression in common use" do you mean the 'Sunset Coast', or "afd button fingers itching over that article"? I'm asuming you mean Sunset Coast, but I could be wrong... --Ali K 03:21, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Just went back to the article to take a look. I suppose you shouldnt be thanking me, the majority of what I wrote has been deleted. --Ali K 03:27, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
I hadnt heard about the "Sunset Coast" until I saw the article, and I have even been a tourist in Western Australia. It does return a few hits on google, but those are mainly to attract tourists. Although, they dont charge money for viewing of the coastline. I'll take a look at the AFD. --Ali K 03:31, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
I added my thoughts at the afd, thanks :) --Ali K 03:40, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Books are my preferred way of contributing, at least the information supplied in them has been read over a number of times! If you ever have the need for someone to write or improve an article using books (probably from the State Library), tell me and I will see what I can do! --Ali K 04:04, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Longest bar

It's a shame the longest bar was dismantled in Mildura. Living here now, it'd be easy to snap up a photogtaph, but she's gone. The Workers Club looks totally different nowadays than it did back then, making you wonder how the bar ever fitted inside the place at all. -- Longhair\talk 03:48, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

I was in Silverton, New South Wales a few weeks back. There's an interesting old pub up there in the middle of nowhere which I always visit when I'm in the area. It still stands and serves beer to this day, but it's now more of a tourist attraction than a swinging hotel. It's a shame I didn't have my camera with me... -- Longhair\talk 03:55, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
np re: For the Term of his Natural Life image. The article makes no mention of radio airplay though I've noticed. I'll have to see what I can dig up. I'm just a little too young to go remembering any radio serials of the past :) -- Longhair\talk 04:00, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Just noticed none of the Mandurah railway line stations have project notices (except Rockingham and Wellard which I just added)... Would you like to do the honours? :) Orderinchaos78 08:24, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Not bad! :) Think you did get most of them. Daniel and I meanwhile have put in quite an effort, as well as Random26 who created Hepburn Avenue - I only had to make minor additions. Still a bit to go ... Orderinchaos78 11:52, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
