C'ing away

Just working on WC. A gentle rain of the verifiably vindicative vindictives would be most appreciated. I seem to have lost the NPOV outlook though, might be time to push it out soon. You get the ankles ... - Fred Ka...Boom! Or did you mean an e? Curses, foiled again. And I was a bit shocked to see that AfD come back to haunt me. Does my feeble support earn me a CD voucher? - Fred 12:41, 2 March 2007 (UTC) That page or section is a stub. Please expand it with the references supplied. Other than that, what on this growing earth are you talking about? W you mind knocking the C off my shoulder. Or is the POV still ok? - Fred 12:56, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

One / closer to main space now. thanks, Sats. Alan Just so you know where it is now. Anytime, soon. Let me know how I can 'help'. - Fred 13:42, 3 March 2007 (UTC) No Worries. I was just talking to Dave. There was a bit of confusion there too.

A former premier also owes you thanks. I could not bring myself to revert it. - Fred 15:16, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
Re., Biran. More former premiers! So many BBs it got too confusing, all popguns. Did you hear paul's interview? - Fred 10:51, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Talk page disruption :)

SatuSuro has a clean talk page! Must create a mess all over again ;) I was just wondering, for a chap as active on his talk page as you are, why not consider allowing a bot to archive your talk page on your behalf? I've made use of Werdnabot for a while now and can't fault it's efforts. -- Longhair\talk 10:41, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

The bot is very easy to enable, and works well. The only sections it'll miss are unsigned ones. If you'd like any help getting such a bot to function, feel free to ask. -- Longhair\talk 11:26, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Initially I left it there, because it was you guys. And then I realised that if it was anyone other than you guys I would have expunged it without so much as a how-do-you-do. So I thought I had better be even-handed.... Hesperian 12:27, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Bloody Hesp. Where's the fun gone. So you've got the yr 12 fun and games this year haven't you. I suppose the lad has dug out Dad's old monkey suit. I hope you told him to watch out for those Mercedes girls and make sure he's got ample supplies of you-know-what. It'll be a hard year for you my friend. —Moondyne 12:32, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Need Advice

Hi SatuSuro, you generally seem to know what things are about, so I'll share my current problem with you :) I've been asked to review Riverview Church (which appears to have been formerly called Rhema Family Church) which seems to have become the subject of a very slow POV conflict. Clearly sourcing is what is needed to fix it. Where on earth would I source information about a large Perth church from the 1980s and 1990s?? Was it even that big or influential, is there anywhere that records these sorts of things (The ABS don't note individual churches, already checked). Also see your email for an additional note. DanielT5 05:09, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

After spending 35 minutes fixing collateral damage, I think someone needs to keep a watch on somebody's edits. Is there a program that does that? DanielT5 10:59, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

AfD

I don't get it! Why do you object to me listing articles such as Andrew Choi for deletion? It's ridiculous that someone can create an article about an eight-year-old boy who seriously is in violation of WP:N? Auroranorth 12:30, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Oh, sorry, I just got your message. Alan Carpenter was a bit daring, I realise (but it was unsourced) but the Christian band is still in violation of WP:N. Auroranorth 12:31, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome

Hi there! As I just posted to Fred.e - I was atually going through the Fellows of the Royal Geographic Society category adding the names to the cats (yeah, I know, what a way to spend my Sunday ...) as they get alphabetised oddly otherwise, and came across your bod there. Being a frustrated librarian I just couldn't leave him in his un-alphabetised state! Jasper33 12:43, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Western Australia, eh? I think the phrase 'you lucky, lucky bastard' springs to mind as I look out at a rainy, grey day in Blighty. I know. jealousy is a very unappealing trait ... Jasper33 13:10, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Transforming Japanese Robots

Been working on all the chapter 17 characters from notable animated series MarronBalls (J. Miruku Cherax). Destructor & Crassimanus are underway but Cherax brothers; tenuimanus & cainii were a difficult pair and depressus character is hard to nail in a NPOV way. After their previous nominations for deletion I feel confident in their future. How can people think a show watched by thousands can NOT BE NOTABLE! 6pr just after 17:00 had FESA guy on he siad it burning towards HV and into the southern side of the valley near zig zag, was advising to evacute HV area and warning Darlington Boya of possible spot fires from embers. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gnangarra (talkcontribs) 09:34, 8 March 2007 (UTC).
If HV goes I have about three friends who will be so beyond distraught - considering whats inside their houses - the radio message from FESA at about 6.20 said - HV people have the stay or go message - huge amounts of roads are blocked (the cops awlays are extra cautious) and here in GF - my youngest is complaining about the embers in the swimming pool! - I will try to get a google earth thing on here soon. Watching it from the top edge of the hudman road quarry - across the valley at approx 8 pm - the waterbombed helena river front (ie north front of fire) was still alight, however - the upper (southern edge) of the helena valley closer to the gooseberry hill area had at least 4 tenders near known houses to the quarry end (ie west end of the northern slope of goosebery hill that descends into the valley) - and the most frightening 1km wide front was bearing east half way up the side of the valley slope towards an isolated house - have no idea of the outcome. i have a very poor mpeg of that...SatuSuro 11:57, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey

Hey hows it going? Check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Indonesia/Member activities and tell me what you think, honestly. Imoeng 00:17, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Ah, yeah, of course, it's just up to the project, that's why I haven't put the link on the navigator. Also, the updates are fully voluntarily, so that if someone wants his/her name to be taken off, then do so. Vieweng someone else's contrb page would seem like "liat - liat aja". But if we have this kind of page, then one can say to the world openly about the recent contributions. THanks - Imoeng 10:37, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Okay, you lost me a bit there. So you were saying we should do like talk pages? I reckon we can always tell people to cut the sentence short and keep it simple, it's not a place for "curhat" (do you know that word? hehehe). And yes, that kind of message would be a bit annoying. Bwmodular has posted a nice message, although a bit lengthy, like the last sentence. Cheers - Imoeng 10:51, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for updating. A bit too long, frankly :P, but it's alright. ALso don't forget to put the bulleted point and the date, it's just neater to have them :D. Cheers - Imoeng 11:25, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Well done with what you have done so far - there are significant west coast roads too! SatuSuro 01:27, 5 March 2007 (UTC) You'll need to find a reference/citation for what you have put into the intro - SatuSuro 04:13, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

It would be good if you could respond - I really need to find where you got your road stats from for the intro of the List article - they cannot stand alone like that - either a ref or citation is needed SatuSuro 02:49, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, sorry. Been a bit busy as of late. I have removed the unverifiable information from List of highways in Tasmania. Lists and articles

Can you, or anyone, tell me whether this is 'square' with general policy[2]. I have not encountered a list with this sort of thing in the 'article space'. It was moved from the talk page. Yours thoughts or enlightenment? - Fred (talk) 15:25, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

No, the steam-rolling juggernaut that is the Australia list deletion cabal rolls onward. I'm listing it at AfD now. Just kidding! -Steve (Slf67) talk 04:15, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

OK - I'm confused - are you two agreeing it should be deleted, or that it shouldn't? It fails my view that lists should have criteria such that the people in them should be notable because they are qualified to be in the list. If just about anybody can qualify to be in the list, it's not really a notable list, it should be a category. --Scott Davis Talk 12:20, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure why it's important to list them anywhere - just put the blue links in a Category:Western Australian musicians and don't list any in an article, or juts list the unquestionably famous international ones only, above the level that anyone feels they can add their next door neighbour to the list. --Scott Davis Talk 12:41, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
Would you like to do the honours ({{prod}} or WP:AFD)? It's an interesting experience to watch the progress of one you nominated. --Scott Davis Talk 13:26, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

List of Western Australian Musicians

Don't have a problem necessarily with changing the list over to a category - as it would enable articles with those bands to be directly linked.

Whilst I didn't create the article I have been busy updating links and establishing articles for some of the more notable bands on the list. I recognise that there a significant number of red links and whilst it is likely that some of those bands are potentially notable others aren't significant enough to warrant articles on Wikipedia and probably should be dropped off.

Essentially I think that it is a worthwhile suggestion Dan arndt 23:51, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Just another suggestion but rather than replace the list with a category outright - why not have both. The list providing a record of bands some of which may eventually have there own article (sort of a reference base at least for me) - eventually I would see it being removed but don't think it should be done immediately Dan arndt 00:28, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Not a particular fan of those 'over east' particularly when they try and dictate what everyone else should be doing - would appreciate any help you give, as per your suggestion. Dan arndt 00:35, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
If you could do set up a sub-page for me that would be great - appreciate your advice & assistance - have got to get back and start doing some real work now Dan arndt 01:03, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for all your work in setting that up - really appreciate it Dan arndt 04:09, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Just because you were born in the 1950s doesn't mean that you can't appreciate the latest West Aussie bands - have made contributions to articles on The Stems, The Scientists and The Triffids which might be more of your era. Have fixed most of the links - appreciate the assistance Dan arndt 05:05, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Melaleuca, Tasmania

I have just created Melaleuca, Tasmania. (Interesting enough I see you just created Port Davey today - I didn't even notice until afterwards!) I think it would be a good article for Wikipedia:Did you know on the front page, but I'd like to get a tiny bit more content into it first. If you can add to it then please do! -- Chuq 06:19, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Well, I wonder if its presence on [[5]] this map means anything? -- Chuq 06:22, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Oh damn I think you're right! - http://www.ga.gov.au/bin/gazd01?rec=31689 - Geoscience Australia shows it as HMSD which means a "Homestead, Outstation, Outcamp, Woolshed, or Aboriginal outstation", not as a locality (which Towns/Villages/etc would be) :( What a shame, I was looking for some little novelty such as the smallest populated town or something like that! -- Chuq 06:30, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Do you know how to change the list to a category? Do we have to include the category on each band's article page?Dan arndt 08:45, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Have populated the Category - ended up including a number of musicans not covered on the list Dan arndt 02:47, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

I've been hitting reload on his contributions ever since he vandalised your user page. He seems to have stopped editing 20 minutes ago. If I'd got there first I would have exterminated him, as an account used solely for vandalism. But someone else got there first, and left a final warning, and there hasn't been anything since, so I'm obliged to honour the warning out of respect for whosoever posted it. :-( Hesperian 11:26, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I would have named names, in true McCarthyesque style, but the stage included famous bollywood actor dea'shi' (cast as the lone gunman) in from the wilderness - righting lefts and slapping his palm to the plate in his temple. Rgrds - Fred (talk)

Have provided an explanation of the category - at this stage all the linked articles already existed have enough work to do without creating new ones at this stage
Was thinking of setting up a separate category for Western Australian bands rather than including them within the musician category - what do you think? Dan arndt 03:13, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

At this stage there is potentially over thirty existing articles that could be linked to a new category for West Australian bands Dan arndt 03:59, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

FWIW, there is now Category:Mothers_wrongfully_accused_of_killing_their_babies. I would prefer a more concise name and one that allowed for the victim to be older than a baby, but ... whatever ... Of all the things to work on here that interest me, the naming of categories is relatively low! Keesiewonder talk 10:31, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
I've just seen this. I'm not clinging defensively to the title I chose. I don't like it either! I'd be happy also to include victims that were older than babies, but I intend it for cases where the accusation is controversial. SlimVirgin suggested "falsely" or "wrongfully", because the courts had overturned the convictions, but ideally this category could have included cases like Lindy Chamberlain, Sally Clark, and Angela Cannings while they were still in jail, if the category (and Wikipedia) had existed at the time! But it wouldn't include cases where a mother is convicted of infanticide and nobody except her husband and mother thinks that she's innocent. Anyway, if someone moves the category to something more appropriate, I won't object. How about Category:Controversial accusations of filicide? It sounds awful! Hmmm ... you may be starting to lose me on my Monday morning. Articles that are orphans and articles that are categorized with categories that aren't subordinate to a parent category are different problems to me. Hi SatuSuro. Thanks for the welcome. I'm sure I'll figure out the Wiki grammar/format soon, but in the mean time, my humblest thanks for the inclusion in your circle of "people of like mindedness".

"Them"/they btw, is actually a "she".

Like most places I've lived, I find I'm more interested in the specifics than the locals. Such is the case with my new home Tasmania. My partner (also a woman - and same-sex migration to Australia could be an extensive entry unto itself) and I live in Bagdad, Tasmania, in what I've heard refered to as "Deliverance Country". We actually enjoy our litttle slice of bush quite a bit and have found the "no Greens" neighbors changed their tunes when faced with the real thing (especially since we let their grand-kids come and play on the computer and take them for walks in the bush).

As the editor of Green Tasmania magazine, I'd be interested in anything you might want to say about the early days of the Wilderness Society. As for current issues, I'll be at the anti-plup mill rally this Sunday in Launcestion, and I may be focusing the next edition of the magazine on the plup mill fiasco.

May you live in interesting times.

Darling Scarp/Range/Hills/Plateau, etc

Seems to me that scarp is the best name for the relatively abrupt western edge of increased elevation produced by the Darling Fault, but then there is a broad zone of hills (couldn't call them mountains) that slowly merge into a plateau about 30-40 km to the east. Its this broad band that gets called the Darling Range on maps. Although it doesn't drop down in average elevation to the east, 'range' would still seem a reasonable term. Thus Darling Scarp would be the western edge of the Darling Range. The Darling Fault (yes it caused it all, so it really is at fault) is distinct again because it extends way beyond the scarp and ranges, north and south and into the earth. --Zamphuor 13:54, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

I think that's the way to go. I give some thought to penning something for Darling Range, unless you want to do it. Might put a note on Darling Scarp talk page first. Cheers --Zamphuor 14:06, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I thought it was finally time to get rid of an actually quite commonly used redirect which is Wikigrammatically incorrect to start with (many of them are actually my fault as I introduced them into articles by copying them into stubs), and putting in the reflist standard and removing manual LGA and year links in infoboxes behind them. Orderinchaos 09:26, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

See also's

When I say I dislike see also's, I mean things like this - [8] [9] [10] - where the links are already included elsewhere in the article at the proper location! In your additions to the cricket page, they are useful, as they serve as further reading when there isn't actually a section in the article yet (and there should be in the "final" version)! Citing online sources is fine - so long as they are well known online sources (ie. not blogs, forums. Nothing wrong with online news sources though - at least they are easy to verify!) -- Chuq 13:29, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Lake Margaret

Hi SatuSuro. I hope I wasn't too presumptuous with the additions -- I noticed a few errors in the existing text and the fact that it was a bit out dated. I also decided to take the opportunity to go more in depth with Lake Margaret's history. Today was my first Wikipedia edit so I'll get the hang of things a bit better as I go along. I simply didn't have time to fully get to the heritage listing and future options -- as murky as they are -- but I'll get around to that in the next couple of days and hopefully add a photo or two. Travis Tiddy 12:51, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback. I read through the intro information and then started playing around with formatting my talk page -- I put the intro info back again.
There is a bit of an issue re: referencing the history of Lake Margaret. There is little acknowledged existing literary resources about the place. IE: It is widely known that the lower power station was opened in 1931 (during the depression no less), and that it was decomissioned in the early 1990s (possibly 1994) -- and so I corrected the existing Wiki information as previously no dates were stated. Do I need to reference this information? I'll look at other referencing techniques on other pages and see if I can apply it to the Lake Margaret entry.
Also note on the Lake Marg discussion page I'm wondering if the title is a little limiting -- take a look and let me know what you think. Regards Travis Tiddy 23:57, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

I see Category:Members_of_the_Australian_House_of_Representatives_by_Division. Is that it? -- Longhair\talk 11:09, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
At least one of them was deleted last year (see Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_June_8#Category:Members_of_the_Australian_House_of_Representatives_for_Bennelong. I guess the same argument applies to other similar underpopulated categories. There's quite a few though. It might be worth raising this issue at WP:AWNB to guage community opinion. It's a lot of work to list them all :) -- Longhair\talk 12:57, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
The problem with tagging them as underpopulated - some categories here cannot be populated. Take the example of the Division of Bennelong... As JROBBO said at the link above, it "will never go beyond two people at least for the near future".
Some of those categories cannot be populated further because there's simply no content for them to be populated with. It smells of overcategorisation to me, but then again, some of those categories have a decent amount of content within. What to do hey? I might sleep on this one and think it over some more tomorrow, but I'm happy to discuss this one further. I'll archive your post as requested also :) -- Longhair\talk 13:29, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
...and I see you've found the Tasmania assessments that are now functional. Only Tasmania=yes is functional for now. I'll get the remaining parameters working for the project tomorrow sometime. -- Longhair\talk 13:35, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for you thoughts. I have been thinking of the possibility of setting up a category for impact craters and related articles, as there are so many of them, and I seem to spend lots of time editing them. But as yet I haven't investigated what is involved. It'd also be good to make up a template for craters to put basic data in a tabulated box such as is done with lakes. Glad you liked it. I'm on a bit of a sources jaunt at the moment. People are generally in the habit of creating links to notable material, but most of them never think to link to notable material in their references. Project: Western Australian Maritime Museum Architect: Cox Howlett + Bailey Woodland The Western Australian Maritime Museum is an exceptional work of architecture produced for a highly significant and sensitive site. As urban design, the building artfully manipulates form, scale and expression at many locations in order to address the complex cultural and physical context and complex brief of the modern museum.

  • Re the quiet talk page: don't jinx it please, it is delightful.
  • Re the red links, I'm afraid I've voted with me feet on that one; check your email.

Solo River

Yes you are indeed right. But Solo River is I think the most common English name. It is evidenced by the lemma Solo River in Encyclopaedia Britannica. However, we can add the Javanese/Indonesian name between parentheses as bengawan means "great (river)" in Javanese. Meursault2004 08:13, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Hey, sorry for not tagging new Wikipedia:WikiProject Indonesia/Monitoring sub pages. They are still half-baked. — Indon (reply) — 09:16, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

politics ratings

hey, sorry if I did the wrong thing, I figured all Government Leaders (premiers and Prime Ministers) would be either high or top rating to the politics wikiproject, remember we're talking about less then 10% of the articles currently with the political tag (which is obviously going to be no where near all of them. Anyway I will of course stop until I hear further, although as you've probably seen, I've almost finished the Premiers. Thanks, WikiTownsvillian 11:02, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

looking at the lists now it's surprising how disproportionately many government leaders in Australia have first names beginning with J :) WikiTownsvillian 11:16, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi SatuSuro, "|importance=high" is for Wikiproject Australia, I was rating for Wikiproject Aust politics... I don't think we're on the same page here. I was rating for THIS wikiproject rating system, not Wiki Aust... does this address your issue? Thanks, WikiTownsvillian 12:10, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

It is not for both...

Eric Willis is now of High importance to wikiproject Australian politics but not Wikiproject Australia same with all the articles I've done, the "|politics-importance=high" rating does not effect the Australian wikiproject, another example: Albert Dunstan is rated (and was already rated) as of Mid-importance to Wikiproject Australia, but after my edit it is now rated as of high importance to wikiproject aust. politics but has not changed the wikiproject aust rating. I hope this clarifies this for you. Thanks, WikiTownsvillian 12:45, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Okay Alec - well I'm coming in sort of half way here (but I must admit I did see the initial discussion with you SatuSuro) - so I will stick my (it ain't glass) jaw out and do my best as follows
  1. I agree with SS on the rating (in most cases) for politicians - I would say Top was reserved for the absolute most important ones, EG Robert Menzies, John Curtin, Edmund Barton because they are critical to understanding Australia, High is for most Prime Ministers, John Howard, Bob Hawke etc, I say most because a couple of them only had the job from breakfast until morning tea (like the fellow after Harold Holt took a long swim) and they are not of high importance, Premiers in most cases (probably all) (but Don Dunstan and a couple of others might be an exception) are of Mid importance and all the other politicians would be low (except for perhaps the Don Chipp, Pauline Hanson types).
  2. However I agree with you on the possibility of double grading an article in the same stream of code (I think this is the converation you are having with SS) but I do not think you should be using this code - as for Eric Willis ... {{WP Australia|politics=yes| class= stub| importance= low |politics-importance=High}} but rather use this code in full because that allows the Bot's and the scripts to work properly...{{WP Australia|class=|importance=<!-- Wikiproject specific tags --> |politics=yes|politics-importance=}}

I have adjusted Eric Willis for you to show how it works. Now if I have missed the gist of the conversation somehow just call me a D*head and set me straight. I am posting to both so that we are all singing from the same hymn sheet.--VS talk 13:07, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

PS I'll just run the Bot through the table at Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian politics to see what the tallies are.--VS talk 13:10, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi VS, fair enough, in point number one are you referring to wiki Aust politics or wiki Aust? I disagree with you on what is important to wikiproject Aust politics, but understand these things are done by consensus, should I reverse what I've done or wait for a consensus at wikiproject aust politics on how to rate leaders before changing it? Thanks, WikiTownsvillian 13:15, 23 April 2007 (UTC).
(after double edit conflict) Discussion about how the importance scale applies to WP:AUSPOL is better held at that project's talk page. Otherwise, Alec is correct with regards to the importance ratings being separate for WP:AUS and WP:AUSPOL, and has been doing a marvellous job assessing articles. I must disagree with Steve on including the hidden comment in the code; this is simply superfluous text, and insofar as I'm aware, has no affect on any bots or scripts.--cj | talk 13:16, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
(posted to here also) Again as I said before I am just in on the periphery of this (politics is not my interest in terms of assesment) but it is obviously important for me to confirm again that the part that CJ indicates above as superflous is most definitely not (I have learned via errors that are caused particularly with the script that he and I are both using from Outriggr) The break created by the comment allows the script to separate its taks and if not included the Outriggr script adjusts the importance for both the parent and the child project.--VS talk 13:37, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi SatuSuro, thank you for picking me up and slowing things down, and please be assured that I will fix whatever needs to be fixed, even if it takes a week to fix a days worth of edits as I think this scripting thing will :) Good night, WikiTownsvillian> 14:29, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi SatuSuro, I've been reformatting away, so far the PMs and the Qld Prems, is what I've been doing so far OK with you? WikiTownsvillian 09:56, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
