Re: Could we work together?[edit]

Good work on the article! It looks a lot more complete now, particularly the section on her career. About putting it on "Did you know"... How would you phrase it? I've never used the "Did you know" feature, so I'm not too sure what's supposed to go there. Aridd (talk) 22:37, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. I wasn't online at all yesterday, which is why I hadn't replied to your message. I'm very busy in "real life", and I've also got other things to do on Wikipedia, but I'll take a look at the Jin Jing article as soon as I have time. Just don't expect me to do it immediately, please, because I have to prioritise and there are other things (particularly in real life) that require my attention first. Still, I'll look at it when I can. Aridd (talk) 07:43, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've taken another look, and there aren't really any problems with the language, that I can see. I've made some very minor stylistic tweaks, but I can't see much else to contribute. The article has already progressed significantly since I started it - in great part thanks to your efforts. Regarding the French version... I've already edited it several times, to make it more complete. I've tried to be fairly concise there, presenting all the essential facts without redundancy. There are some things I've left out deliberately. For example, I've only mentioned her medals in international competitions. I wanted to focus on what was most relevent to an international readership. I'm adding a bit on media coverage. Aridd (talk) 23:21, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again. I've just seen your suggested phrasing for DYK ("...that a young Paralympic athlete Jin Jing was called an angel by Chinese people?"). A small point of grammar: I think that should be "that a young Paralympic athlete, Jin Jing, was"... (with commas), or "that Jin Jing, a young Paralympic athlete, was"... (with commas) or "that young Paralympic athlete Jin Jing was"... (without "a"). Aridd (talk) 12:04, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and I've noticed that a user disputed the use of "Chinese people". Maybe "Chinese netizens and the Chinese media", for the sake of verifiability? That would give us: "...that a young Paralympic athlete, Jin Jing, was called an angel by Chinese netizens and the Chinese media?" What do you think? Aridd (talk) 12:08, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Concern[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: is it true that you are with Jin Jing?. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Thank you. BoL (Talk) 23:42, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And I would suggest discontinuning mass posting as it violates policy: WP:CANVASS. BoL (Talk) 23:43, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Getting Jin Jing to DYK[edit]

OK, a few things jump out at me when I read Jin Jing. Firstly, the bits on her being single, her hobbies and her heroes aren't really appropriate. Secondly, the career section is a bit awkward - can you reword it, so that the sentence structure isn't always the same? Also, these single-sentence paragraphs should be combined into longer paragraphs. Next, it's still a bit short. Can you expand it with some further information about her from the sources, not just about the torch incident? Image:Violentolympicprotestor.jpg needs a fair use rationale corrected link, even with my limited knowledge of these matters.

My final comment is that the article must be written from a neutral point of view - it shouldn't be written to praise her or her actions, just to report on her life and notable achievements. With that in mind, I am worried that your username is too closely connected to "supporting Jin Jing". Have a look at the username policy and consider getting it changed to something more neutral. But the article has promise, and with a bit of work I'm sure you can have a good shot at getting it mentioned on the front page. Regards, BencherliteTalk 23:48, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So I guess I would recommend a change in username, so there you have it! Although if you don't agree, we could discuss it over with the others... BoL (Talk) 23:50, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to change it, go to Wikipedia:Changing username and follow the instructions. You'll be told whether your new name is OK. Regards, BencherliteTalk 23:58, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, copyright matters. The photo won't be allowed on the Main Page as it's copyright. However, if you want to use the photograph in the article, read about fair use rationales and use {{Non-free use rationale}} on the image page with a detailed explanation of why it meets the criteria set out there. BencherliteTalk 00:43, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, things usually get added to the DYK template in order, and as there are still a ton of articles that were written before it, you'll have to wait with this article. - Bobet 16:38, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I can help edit it. But my English is also not good and I have no experience on the Did you know affairs. Best wishes.--Neo-Jay (talk) 01:58, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:[edit]

Why? The section, though I believe to be ultimately POV, is still about Chinese media coverage. There's nothing there about Olympic media coverage. You should raise this suggestion at the talk page though so everyone can discuss. Cheers. Herunar (talk) 15:23, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, we change it together. It doesn't make sense this way for readers. Let's draft up the section in the talk page. Discuss at the talk page from now on. Herunar (talk) 15:26, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re[edit]

A personal life section would be fine if you have a look at Lance Armstrongs personal life it reads with relevant information. If is read Jin currently lived in Shanghai...... it would be fine. But her hobbies. Its very sandboxsih. Maybe her contributions outside sports could be included. Also comparing Jin too lance armstrong is quite a stretch. Lance armstrong is a competitive athlete in mainstream sport and is widely recognized. Jin is a communist party nationalist martyr Who is used by the spin doctors to garner nationalsitic support Oiboy77 (talk) 17:39, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Oiboy[reply]

Speedy delete tags[edit]

Hi, just a note that someone has pointed out a mistake I made in my advice to you. For some reason (possibly due to your username, or simply my bad memory) I thought you were the original author of that article. You would not have been allowed to remove the speedy delete tag yourself; and would have needed to use the {{hangon}} method. But, you aren't the original author, so you actually could have removed it yourself if you disagreed. Luckily, someone else removed it, so no harm came from my confusion. --barneca (talk) 20:36, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jin Jing[edit]

Please note that Wikipedia is not the right place for POV Chinese state propaganda, see also Wikipedia:NPOV. It seems to me that the only point of your editing is to push the Jin Jing article to the mainpage. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and not a vehicle for anyone's propaganda. Novidmarana (talk) 05:15, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong person[edit]

If you have an issue with something another editor wrote, take it up with them, not me. I provided my own reasoning which still stands. if you want me to clarify it any further, visit my talk page again, but do me a favour, and don't write on it in reply, as you've gt no good reason to - you're speaking to the wrong person.Crimsone (talk) 20:36, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Sarkozy's letter[edit]

Thanks, but I'd just noticed it before receiving your message. ;) I've added it to the French version of the article. By the way, that Figaro article mentions us! ("Créée juste après les incidents des Paris, une longue fiche Wikipedia en anglais est disponible sur elle.") Aridd (talk) 16:26, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: or just maybe you're blind[edit]

sorry if the sentence as I have written it hurt you. That was just an idiom or a way of telling it, that surely wasn't bad humor about blind people. I know several blind persons and I wouldn't make fun of it. I deleted the sentence. -- Le lannister (talk) 18:28, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your editing style[edit]

Could I remind you that the article on Jin Jinu is not your own article and that if you decide to remove content you should state a reason. And don't ignore discussions on the talk page. And so on, but I am getting tired of reminding you of some of the absolute basics of Wikipedia. Novidmarana (talk) 12:44, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think I need to remind you that you actually broke the rule of 3RR if you do a bit math. Vandalism is not a good excuse as they gave their reason (no matter how you interpret the reason) and i don't think people not contributing this article will consider them vandalism. If you really need to revert more than 3 times within 24 hours, wait for somebody else. Be cool. --Cowboybebop98 (talk) 13:33, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jin Jinu[edit]

Hi, could you have a look at my proposal at Talk:Jin_Jing#Proposal_to_keep_the_article_as_is and weigh in with your opinion? Thanks, Novidmarana (talk) 17:52, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jin Jing POV[edit]

I haven't heard from you about removing POV tag. Let me know if you are OK with it. Thanks. --Cowboybebop98 (talk) 01:26, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attack[edit]

Can I ask you to read Wikipedia:No personal attacks? Given that you made this edit [[1]] I hope that you are willing to learn and that you will never again exhibit this kind of behaviour here on Wikipedia. Novidmarana (talk) 23:28, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
