help!

Hello, I don't know who I should speak to about this important matter. The Golan article has been taking over by Israelis and they have removed everything mentioning an occupation and changed it to "disputed" They have also removed the "the neutrality of this article is disputed" that was on top of the article while it is written in a completely pro-Israeli way. Please do something about this! —Preceding unsigned comment added by SwedishArab (talkcontribs) 19:57, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

More 'Araby

Salaam. I recently started the articles on Rimal, Tel al-Hawa, Shuja'iyya and Said al-Shawa, all part of the Gaza Devotion Period. I was hoping that you could add the Arabic scripts to these articles (especially al-Shawa because I'm going for a DYK on him soon). Thanks! --Al Ameer son (talk) 06:55, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Discoveries - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 23:40, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Recent work

Thanks for all the Arabic scripts and copyeditting the Sinan Pasha Mosque article. I just started Khan As'ad Pasha, could you add the script to that article as well... --Al Ameer son (talk) 23:13, 8 February 2009 (UTC)

I know, it's a damn shame since Syria has a vast scope and thousands of articles need to be created. I'll continue to start articles on Syria-related subjects, but I admit that it won't be a full dedication until I nominate Gaza for GA status (which will be soon) and create articles on a few more Palestinian villages destroyed in the 1948 War. Afterwards, I want to edit the Umayyad Mosque and Damascus articles so they could become GAs. We should hunt for more users to join the project and perhaps nominate an interesting article for collaboration efforts. --Al Ameer son (talk) 04:37, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
Could you add the Arabic to Jund Qinnasrin and Jund Hims. By the way, could you identify the unlinked towns that were a part of the above-mentioned junds? There listed in the first passage in each of the articles. --Al Ameer son (talk) 23:29, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
Khaled ibn al-Walid Mosque needs Arabic and by the way I listed your name under the nomination of Khan As'ad Pasha for Did you know?. --Al Ameer son (talk) 20:18, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Tekkiye Mosque looks great and is certainly DYK material. I will look for info on it in google books to add soon. By the way, when this Syria mosques phase is taken down a notch, I think we and other WP Syria members should get together to edits Hims. I've taken care of most of the Islamic Arab, Seljuk/Ayyubid/Mamluk and Ottoman periods and will expand the pre-Islamic history of the city by the end of the week. The thing is, I don't have any sources for its Economy, Education, Culture, Local infrastructure, Government, etc. WP Syria currently lacks good articles on modern Syrian topics and I think we make Hims the first city GA. --Al Ameer son (talk) 21:45, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
I've found bits of info on the modern city, but as for the modern history, I got a little on the pre-1960s, but nothing more. What's already in the "Modern era" subsection like the part about Hims growing because of the damage done to Hama in 1982 is not even sourced. Does the municipality have a website perhaps? --Al Ameer son (talk) 22:26, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Do you have a source (or even personal knowledge on the names of Hims's districts or major neighborhoods? We should start a subsection in the main Geography section discussing its subdivisions, suburbs, gates, and Old City. --Al Ameer son (talk) 08:15, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
This is tricky. In order for the pictures not to be deleted, you have to provide the emailed document link from the photographer and the editor sent to you in the image summary table. Also, they must state that they're releasing the images to public domain not just for you and Wikipedia. I did the same for File:Jibrin-Roman ruins-Illayan.JPG, File:Jibrin-St. Mariam's Church-Illayan.JPG, File:Beituniya-Khoury.jpg, and File:Sheikh al-Sadiq Tomb.jpg. Also, make sure you upload them to the commons. --Al Ameer son (talk) 01:41, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

(indent) Do you know how to get the webpage for the most recent census by the Syrian Central Bureau of Statistics? The reason I ask is because this will probably be the primary source we will use to expand the "Demographics" section as well as provide crucial info for the "Education" section and "Local infrastructure" to an extent. --Al Ameer son (talk) 04:02, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Ciphers again

Thanks Yazan! A reply after a month, a year doesn't matter :) I was the guy you hated at Kansai airport a couple of years ago :) sure you know me know ! Ar Wikipedia; I am pretty sure it is much different from the old days. Your work here is great, but we also need your efforts on arwp, and you don't need to involve in any discussion that you don't like to, just as same i try to do! Of course that all depends on your time and motivation. wish you all the best always. by the way the ban on Ar wikipedia in Syria is released now. have a nice day --Ciphers (talk) 07:02, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

bin bon, correct answer :). giving Hims the GA status is a great idea. I will see what i can do about it, i believe that enwp is more strict about GA than arwp. Anyway, looking forward you contributions on arwp. yoi ichi nichi wo ! --Ciphers (talk) 08:14, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

3ala rasi! ok, here you are the "greedy" deal i work with you here (always i wished to work with somebody here) and you start linking your articles with the arabic once, how about this? --Ciphers (talk) 08:32, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Himsi neighborhoods

Great job with the new section. I'm going to try to expand the Old City (and Christian Quarter) because I got some info on them from the tour guide books. I just got one question. While I was copyediting the section and read "to the east", or "to the west", east or west of what? The Old City, right? I can't read 'Araby (shamefully...) so I couldn't tell by the source. --Al Ameer son (talk) 00:21, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for clarifying. The article is really shaping up; it's the best article on a Syrian city on Wikipedia as far as quality and size goes thus far (Damascus is a little bigger). It still needs a lot more work for GA qualification and I will write up a "To-Do" list on the article talk page by the end of the hour. By the way, thanks for getting Ciphers on board! --Al Ameer son (talk) 02:26, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

DYK for Tekkiye Mosque

Updated DYK query On February 22, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Tekkiye Mosque, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Congrats on the DYK? Take a look at the main page (DYK picture and Featured picture at the bottom), it's Arab today, lol ;) --Al Ameer son (talk) 07:11, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
It's been a pleasure! I've always considered myself a Greater Syrian and plus my father's family is originally from Aleppo. I know the sources on Hims are running low, but we got to keep hunting for new ones and continue to milk the old ones (you've been doing a fantastic job with finding sources by the way). For the Demographics section, could you add that previous bit on the 1994 population? Generally, after History and Geography, Demographics and Economy are the most important sections of a city article. The Economy sec looks good, but we need to expand on the population, religion, and if possible, the gender/age make-up of the city. --Al Ameer son (talk) 07:59, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

WP Syria Assessment

Ahlan Yazan! I've noticed that WP Syria's Assessment box is way behind. For instance it records 617 stubs when there is 638 stubs, 396 starts when there is 409 starts, and 69 unassessed when there is 155 unassessed. So the total amount of articles as of now should read 1363 instead of 1243. The bot in charge of assessing these articles has kept good updating of new articles and article upgrades here at the log, but I guess changes have not been properly transferred to the box. You or I should not attempt to update it ourselves since its messy business, so I think the bot should be informed at it's talk page. --Al Ameer son (talk) 06:12, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Ahhhhh... That's a good idea, I'll start tagging more too. Thanks for clearing that up. Cheers! --Al Ameer son (talk) 06:27, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Photos in Hims

Hi Yazan! Is it possible for you to take some more photos of Hims? I've been checking image copyrights for some of the flickr images in the article, and I'm afraid they're BY-NC-SA and can't be used in the article (they are non-commercial use only, not allowed in Wikipedia) :(. I'm still checking, but I'm fairly certain this is the case. The images in question are File:Downtown Hims.JPG, File:Street, Downtown Hims, Syria.jpg, and File:Um al-Zennar Church, Hims.jpg. Do you think you could retake these, if possible? SpencerT♦C 03:52, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Oh, I should have thought to email the photographer. Hopefully s/he will be willing to relicense. SpencerT♦C 16:34, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Fortunately, for the lead image, I found a free image of the same thing on commons (File:Homs syria3.JPG), although it doesn't look quite as spectacular. SpencerT♦C 16:39, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

SSNP Slander, POV and vandalism

Hello, I trust you are a sensible editor, can you take a look at the malicious and politically motivated editing that has been added to the Syrian Social Nationalist Party article recently. Over the past few days the page has been attacked and remade framing the party as a fascist Nazi spin off. The sources being used are all polemicists with a hostile agenda against the party. I suggest reversing the past weeks edits to around this edit [1] and fully protecting the page from any further changes for a while. What do you think? 94.192.38.247 (talk) 17:07, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Syrian localities (all of 'em)

Marhaba Yazan. As you already noticed, I'm starting templates for Syria's governorates. Now, to my utter dismay, there are only a few articles on Syrian towns and villages, and the articles on minor Syrian cities are the exact definitions of a "stub". It reminds me of when there were virtually no articles on Palestinian localities just a year ago. Today, through the efforts of WP Palestine, almost every Palestinian locality has an article, and there are dozens and dozens of starts, as well as B's and Good articles among them. What we need, however, is a formal list of localities for each governorate from a website, preferably a government one. This is how we knew of the Palestinian localities (and their populations). Once we have a list, we could start typing their names on the internet and in google books to find any information and then start articles on them. And of course, first we transfer their names to the respective governorate template so every user has an opportunity to start an article on one of the towns or villages. Do you know the website for such lists? I got the Palestinian locales from the Palestinian CBS, but I don't know if the Syrian CBS has it also. --Al Ameer son (talk) 08:44, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks, until then, I'll just use this online Syria Wall Map for the information. It's unorthodox, but it's all we got. Fantastic job on Latakia! You managed to double its size in mere hours! Well, I'm definitely on board for it. I started the Demographics section and did some re-organizing, and I've noticed you've continued to expand as well. The "Muslim rule" section is too small right now, but I think there's info on the city in the le Strange book we used for Hims. I'll get on it. Cheers! --Al Ameer son (talk) 21:21, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

I say we emulate the WP Palestine New Articles page. I'll create it, but it might take a day or two because I'm a lazy person ;) After it's been completed you should post all the new articles you created since 2009 began. I'll notify you when it's done. On a side note, do you have any access to a list of mayors of Hims? I managed to gather a rough list here, but there's a wide gap between the 1950s and 2000. Do you think one of these many Hims websites carries a formal list of them? Second, I just realized there's nothing in the Hims article on airports. If Hims doesn't have one, the nearest airports (national and international) should be mentioned in a line or two. Cheers! --Al Ameer son (talk) 05:08, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Hama pictures

Do you have any? I went on Flickr and couldn't find any ones that we would be allowed to use (license issues...). The most important images, I think, would be of the Great Mosque of Hama, the Azem Palace, the Abu al-Fida Mausoleum, or the Khan As'ad Pasha—all of which are truly great works of architecture. Really, any images of Hama besides the noriahs would be great to have. --Al Ameer son (talk) 06:59, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for looking. I'll copyedit the norias article and we'll start the Azem Palace (Hama) article (at least before Monday). Huldra has uploaded a lot of images of the place. --Al Ameer son (talk) 03:56, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
I started the article on the Azm Palace (Hama). If you would like to move it to "Azem" Palace instead, go ahead. The only reason for "Azm" is because of consistence: As'ad Pasha al-Azm, Sulayman Pasha al-Azm, and Azm Palace (Damascus). I started the first two and used "Azm" because that's how most of the sources spelled their family name, but the with the palace, most spell it "Azem". By the way, I don't how much more I will contribute to Hama after Monday (going to dedicate myself to the Gamal Abdel Nasser article with a couple of more users and you are more than welcome to join ;) However, while I was editing the Azm Palace, I used the Ivan Mannheim Syria and Lebanon Handbook] which we used extensively for Hims. From pages 213 to 223 is the Hama section. There is plenty of new info on the city itself, the Great Mosque, the Nur al-Din (Nuri) Mosque, the Roman Orthodox Church, the Citadel, and other sites in the city. May I also suggest the creation of the Abu al-Fida Mausoleum article. --Al Ameer son (talk) 05:57, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Zozo2kx. I've nominated this article by you for DYK. If you're interested in getting this article on MainPage, you may want to go to T:TDYK#Norias of Hama and fix the article as discussed there. If not, never mind. Happy editing. --PFHLai (talk) 16:13, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Hey

I found a problem here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ministry_of_Defense_(Syria)

If you click on the Housing and Construction link in the template you will be directed to Housing and Construction Minister of Israel. --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 14:58, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Done - fixed. Thanks for the heads up. Yazan (talk) 15:21, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Article Syria

AS you can see, user Shmayo is revering my edits in the article. I came up with 15 sources that the Arameans were called Syrians, but Shmayo cant not accept this. I also came up with sources where scholars argued that SYria is not derived from Assyria. Both arguments are taken up in the text, scholars arguing that Syria is derived from Assyria and other scholars arguing that it is not. But Shmayo keeps reverting, what can we do about it? Can you report this to an admin or something like that, because im not on expert on reporting. 00:06, 29 July 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by SyrianskaFC (talkcontribs)

Latakia

Sure, no problem. SpencerT♦Nominate! 14:29, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Question: Is the style here to use BC or BCE. There's a big smattering of both at this point. SpencerT♦Nominate! 14:42, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
I think it's BCE and CE per MoS. --Al Ameer son (talk) 18:20, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Re: Suggestion

Hi Yazan, thanks for your suggestion and kind words! I do hope to improve the Lebanon article over time, from the top down, maybe even to GA or FA status one day. It was a GA before, but the editors who were active to make that happen took a break, and the article deteriorated. Regarding your suggestion, is that the Harvard citation technique discussed here? I've never used those templates before, but if I understand correctly you create the initial reference once, then you can use CITEREF with the author's last name and date to identify different pages or quotes from the same source used in different places in the article? ← George [talk] 20:08, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Ah, this is a great example! Thanks again for the suggestion. I'll do what I can! :) ← George [talk] 20:26, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Re:GA review

Marhaba Yazan. I'm very happy that you've decided to take the opportunity to be a GA reviewer (I myself have been a coward about it and have never reviewed an article ever, except give suggestions.) Anyway, I've skimmed through the article and read the review. It's very fair, although my only concern is your mention of the lead length which I half-agree with. Though the article maybe small, the lead looks proportional. However, I completely agree that no references should be in the lead and the bit about Hawi's assassination should probably be removed since it's about the LCP and the lead should really concentrate on the DLM. Other than small concern, the review is very fair and helpful and hopefully the article will pass. Great job akhi! --Al Ameer son (talk) 05:36, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

No problem. As for the nomination of Damascus as a Vital article, Tariq had me thinking about Cairo and then I remembered Baghdad. Basically, I'm stuck for now. Anyway, regardless of what is chosen I have already decided to work on Damascus after the Nasser article is pretty much finished up (5-6 weeks). I've never been there, but for some reason it's my favorite city and I must visit it sometime soon. With Hims being a GA and Latakia on its way, Damascus should become an FA when we're done with it. I just pray the necessary resources are available. Good luck with the nomination and the review! --Al Ameer son (talk) 07:20, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm looking forward to it. Salam, --Al Ameer son (talk) 07:35, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Re:Requested move

Done. --Al Ameer son (talk) 03:55, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Wow, didn't know that category existed. It's a perfect fit for Asmahan. --Al Ameer son (talk) 05:45, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I'm trying to ignore any possible "inter-Arab" rivalry that's obviously, and very unfortunately, present. I think I'll make it... Anyway, I moved the article, but do you want it with one "m" or two? You could go ahead and move it if it requires only one. Cheers akhi! --Al Ameer son (talk) 03:38, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Re:Latakia GA review

Salam y'akhi. I don't think there's a way we could do that; we'll just have to wait unfortunately. It's also very unfortunate (for us at WP Syria) that you'll be absent for three weeks... Anyway, have a good time doing whatever you're doing and don't worry about Latakia—I'll keep a close eye on it. Excited to hear you'll get the History of Damascus book, it will be extremely useful in dozens of articles. I hope to get back on the Nasser article shortly (been sidetracked by the Asmahan issue and some Palestinian-related articles.) Looking forward to working with you again, Salaamat, --Al Ameer son (talk) 18:15, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Finally

No problem, glad to help out. As for the CBS, it's about time their site has came up. Unfortunately for me, I can't read Arabic so you'll probably have to list all the towns (sorry...), but once their listed we could search for info on them and commence a massive article creation phase. I won't be able to start any right now (going to be away for 3-4 days), but will begin when I return. Salam akhi, --Al Ameer son (talk) 05:45, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Bebe Lebanese

Hi Yazen, I really appreciate the advice. But I just want to say eno I was just repeating what Arab cowboy had said to me in the first place. He has said so much disrespectful things like: "tribal ways in the Middle East" and nonsense and now calling us cows. He is very rude and I did not come on here to argue with people, but it seems this guy argues with everyone ta2reeban. Whatever the problem is, I still appreciate your advice and merci kteer. :) Lebanese bebe (talk) 16:03, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Mar7aba Yazan, how are doing? I am not sure why did you revert the changes that I have made to the page of Rev. Riad Jarjour. I think you can see that I am the originator of this article and now since I have got more details from Rev. Riad himself, I have tried to enhance the page. I wish if you can specifically tell me what to do since I am very keen to apply the changes. Thanks & best regards.

Dear Yaza, thank you for the prompt reply. Actually the article is not copy paste, it was received from Rev, Riad peronally as I am his cousin brother. I should admit here to my ignorance of linking stuff, but I promise you that I will learn as soon as possible. For the time being, please allow me to add the second half of the article, namely; SUMMARY OF ACHIEVEMENTS FROM 1995 TO THE PRESENT. Thanks & best regards.

Damascus work

Marhaba y'akhi Yazan! I don't know if you're still active or whether you took a break like I did, but I'm glad to inform you that large-scale work on the Damascus article has begun. Ahmadac has been working on it for sometime now actually and I'm starting to help out as much as I can. Work on Nasser isn't finished because I haven't been as active recently, but there's no reason not to work on both articles. Anyway, I just thought I should let you know. Salam, --Al Ameer son (talk) 23:28, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Great to hear! I'm glad someone else is on board for a change as well. I should probably notify our friend Spencer as well. Cheers! --Al Ameer son (talk) 06:48, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

---Hey there, just wondering why you deleted a whole section (Born in Damascus) from the article. It took me a long time to add all the citations!Ahmadac (talk) 09:36, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

--Hey Yazan, Thanks for the clarification.. I'm not very aware of the guidelines. I should definitely take a look at it.. Thanks for making the edit! Regarding the picture of the four seasons hotel, Do you think it's more appropriate because it's more iconic perhaps? That's a very valid reason for sure.. The reason why I had the blue tower hotel in the infobox picture was because I thought it's more modern looking which is a rarity in Damascus and represents the modern and new. It also compliments the other pictures and colors. I also liked the reflection of the tall palm tree on the tower which is very common on Damascus streets.Ahmadac (talk) 04:16, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Re: Lebanese diaspora

Hi Yazan. You're correct - blogs are not good sources for something like this. Thanks for letting me know, but it looks like another editor already fixed this, replacing the blog with better sources. If you see other issues, feel free to let me know. Cheers. ← George talk 06:47, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
