I stumbled across this vanity page (Nazar Syroyizhka) and am unsure what the proper protocol is; whether it should be reported somewhere, edited, etc. I don't just want to delete somebody's page outright, certainly, but this one is definitely goofy. Trnka[edit]

I'd like to know, how it is possible to cancel this account. I had hard work to find a login, that was not usurpated before, and finally I decided for "trnka" (blackthorn in czech). Then I realized that this is a rather frequent surname in czech (not mine) and because I would like to rename my czech account to this name, I find it quite stupid. taxes avoidance vs evasion[edit]

I some time this year will receive a large settlement, for a false arrest, by a competitor, after 9 hours in Jail, threaten, strip searched , etc my Wife and child, suffered wife needed to take tranqulizers, and later on zoloff, my son ask , Why did you have to go to jail daddy? my wife is from Russia and when you go to jail there, who knows, what could happen to you in 9 hours. and I am from the deep south, ( boy around here I am THE LAW!) So the question is could the 1/2 or all the settlement be wired into her overseas account, to avoid half or all US taxes, she does not work in US, and is not a US citizen. what say you, (the difference between Avoidance and evasion is the thickness of the prison wall?? just wondering ? ````

I want to upload an image which I personally modified from an existing image on Wikipedia. The original image says it is in the free domain and can be copied, posted, modified, etc. What do I do to my image, which I intend to make free and available in order to get it uploaded and keep it from being deleted?

An image will get deleted if it is useless (ie not being used anywhere) or if it doesn't have the correct licence. If the image is in the public domain, and you upload it with a public doamin licence (you can choose from the drop-down box) then it will be free. I recently came across a page on Wikipedia that was prepared using research of mine on another site. More than just "using," really--wholesale borrowing of sentences, phrases, etc. Now, frankly, the guy did a good job, and included some new information as well. But I'm a little bummed that my original resarch, which was clearly central to the page, is nowhere cited. Do I have an actual gripe, or should I just get over it?

In the contribution on "Heart rate" all printers available here (and printer-drivers) are not able to print the part related to: "Zoladz Method". Each time I tried, the printer stopped just before the "right arrow", i.e. "&rarr" in the edited text. How can I overcome that obstacle and print the whole text

Sure, first you need to upload an image if you haven't already. Be sure to follow those instructions and license the image appropriately, if you need help with that ask here for more help, or go ahead and upload it and someone can take a look. After you upload the image you can follow the instructions here to insert it into an article. If you already have an image in mind that is on wikipedia you can skip the uploading part of course, and just add it directly. are the japanese and chinese names in the articles in wikipedia following the traditional format (surname first) or Westernized (first name first)? Some seems to be in the traditional format and some westernized. Please reply.

Crystal Palace[edit]

There seems to be an unholy mess on various entries that relate to the Crystal Palace. According to the article on Sydenham, the Crystal Palace was located to Sydenham after the Great Exhibition finished. According to the article on Crystal Palace, it was relocated to Sydenham, according to the Crystal Palace, London article it is in Upper Norwood (on Beaulah Hill - which is also known as Gyspsy Hill Anerley Hill and Westwood Hill) and according to the article on Penge, it is in Penge. Maps show that the Crystal Palace Park is entirely within the Penge Ward of the London Borough of Bromley.

This is further complicated by the fact that Penge, despite being in the London Borough of Bromley, has a London postcode. The name Crystal Palace applies to the (destroyed) building, a general area, a BBC transmitter, a ward of the London Borough of Bromley, a London Borough of Bromley park (which is not in the ward of that name), a bus terminus and two railway stations (not to mention the Crystal Palace Football Club). How can this all be sorted out to produce a coherent and accurate repost?

Copyright on Logos[edit]

I notice that entries on Wikipedia don't all have logos, if a logo was to be added to Wikipedia I assume it would have to be uploaded so the image is actually on the Wiki server.

Also is permission needed to take the official logo from the official site for that entry.

I know it is for any other image (such as photos), but I am not sure for logos.

Yes a logo has to be uploaded before it can be used. Usually the {{logo}} licence is used. I have a personal friend who was and is now "regrettably" a retired Navy Seal Team Six member, who claims that the Navy forced most of them out one way or the other after Red Cell. I created my first page yesterday as well as my account. The topic was Regional Health Information Organization. It was unclear what happens after I click Save Page and the page is available off the search field. Is there a time period before it is available or do I need to "move" from Talk to Main? Thanks.

Scientific Method and Irrelvance[edit]

I am getting back to Wikipedia after a 2 year lapse, and want to add material on Scientific Method and particularly Irrelevance as part of that to your site, and would appreciate help suggestions.

This already is online @ www.nexit.org

and I am James H.L. Lawler (Ph.D. and misc other alphabet soup - excuse informality), I want to get Irrelevance and Scientific Mehtod on your site; and this was presented quite some time ago -1990 (English with Spanish Translation ) by invitation to The Institute for Advanced Studies in Lima, Peru; and several other places (University of San Marcos, Aeriquipa, Trujillo, etc. )thereafter.

The material I believe is a major addition to Scientific Method and/ but I do not wish to change what you have now on line-- that is what someone else thought and I do not particularly disagree with it, but I also suggest that my article is MUCH more definitive, and is philosophiclly more precise. It starts somewhere and make a systematic listing of components, and gets to new ideas. I also am acutely aware that most so called "scientists" cannot make a really coherent definition of what they do, and that needs to be rectified.

I also object to the concept that science cannot be clearly defined (that is listed by one person in your Scientific Method page, and indicates the sorry state of Sci Method today). That negative assumptoin is a self fulfiling prophesy from someone who never was able to make such a definition. Henry Ford said "Whether you believe you can or believe you cannot; you are probably right" -- I prefer to just DO it - and not to assume I cannot!

I'm using Mozilla Firefox 1.5. Recently when I click an edit link or add "?&action=edit" to an ordinary URL (in the form "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Example" -- no .php extension), Firefox sometimes prompts me to open or download index.php! I've tried specifying Firefox itself as the application to open the file, but that just loops back to the same prompt. Do I need to change my configuration because of MediaWiki 1.5? Possibly your preferences are set to open up pages in an external editor. To change it back to normal:

Go to your preferences (Special:Preferences)
Go to the "Editing" section
Untick "Use external editor by default"

Quality Standards[edit]

I've come accross many articles that have been flagged as "not meeting the standards of quality" or something like that. I've also come across many articles that fit this description but AREN'T flagged - they need some serious cleaning up. How can I flag an article in this manner? directing a search to the right page[edit]

The city Linyi (in Shandong, CHina) was, in old newspapers, called Lini. So having "Linyi" show up when a search on Lini is done seems proper--how would I add that? 71.104.19.226 18:49, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What you can do is redirect Lini to Linyi.

To do that, edit Lini, insert the line #REDIRECT [[Linyi]], and save.

The search index take a week or so to update, but after that time someone searching for "Lini" will find the article Linyi. If someone types "Lini" into the search bar and hits "Go" they will be take directly to Linyi.

Google search...[edit]

I'm a new, and so far, an extremely happy Wikipediast. My initial reason for joining is that there are several other people with the same name in my industry (entertainment) -- and our credits become co-mingled. As a result, when my name is Googled, sites like IMDB, the New York Times Entertainment archives, etc. come up, and misrepresent who I am and what I've done. So, here's my question. Since Wikipedia (thanks to me) has the only correct accounting of my credits, is there a way when my name is searched on Google (or anywhere else), that the Wikipedia page on me comes up?

Welcome! I'm glad you're enjoying yourself :)

You can't force Google to make a particular page come up. Wikipedia articles often rank quite well in Google, but there is no guarantee that a particular article will do so. You'd also have to wait for Google to index the page (it's automatic). Generally speaking the more websites link to a page, the higher it is ranked in Google. You could also try contacting those other sites asking them to correct any information that is wrong.

As for editing an article about yourself, that is discouraged on Wikipedia. It is better to put corrections on the articles talk page (discussion tab) and let another editor incorporate them. This is to help uphold a neutral point of view. Also remember all additions to articles should cite sources, and not be original research. Feel free to ask any further questions!
