Volunteers work really hard at the Dispute resolution noticeboard but much of their work goes un-noticed by the community. Awards do exist to honour their contributions but its more of a personal preference to award it or not. The DRN Volunteer Awards program aims to eliminate this problem by creating a new set of tasks which will enable volunteers to be recognised by the community.

Types of Awards

The Behind-the-Scenes Hero award

This award is meant for volunteers who have contributed the most to the noticeboard by doing work behind the scenes which tend to not get noticed by others. This includes:

  • Closing invalid/unacceptable cases with a proper closing summary directing the users involved for the appropriate next steps.
  • Commenting on new cases (without openning them) to guide the editors about the DRN process (such as telling them to notify other editors) or letting other volunteers know whether the case is acceptable to the DRN or not.
  • Notifying editors involved in a case who have not been informed by the filing editors
  • Other clerical work at the noticeboard.

The Calm and Patient Volunteer award

This is awarded to volunteers who have particularly taken up complex cases and handled them well remaining calm and composed during the process. Volunteers who used strong inappropriate words or did not attend to the concerns of parties complaining about incivility and disruptive editing are not eligible for this award.

The talk master

This is awarded to volunteers who have been particularly helpful at the DRN talk page and helped other volunteers and disputed parties in their work. Note that volunteers engaging in incivility are not eligible for this award.

Schedule

The awards will be awarded on the 1st of every 2 months, starting September, 2017. Nominations must be made at least 15 days in advance. Voting will be done among the volunteer community in the next 15 days to decide the winner in each category.

Process

All volunteers, who have made active contributions at least a month preceeding the date of nomination, will be eligible for the awards unless they have engaged in misconduct which has made them ineligible for the specific award they have been nominated for. Editors may self-nominate themselves or be nominated by any other registered user who has participated in the dispute resolution process (see 'nominations' below). Volunteers nominated by other editors may choose to refuse the nomination or the award (if awarded). In such cases, the award may be awarded to the next following volunteer with the most votes. Currently serving Coordinators are not eligible for the award. However, they may be awarded later (after their term has ended) for work done during their term.

Nominations

Nominations can be made by any editor who had made at least TEN (10) edits to the Dispute resolution noticeboard or its talk page within a year after such contributions. Nominations for the next awards start one (1) month before the award date and should be completed before 15 days until the award date. Self nomination is allowed. Nominations may be made at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Volunteer awards/Nominations or its relevant sub page.

Awarding

The awards shall be awarded by the current DRN coordinator (or any other person authorised on their behalf) after counting all votes on the nomination page. Awards will be awarded on the 1st of every alternate month. The templates will be substituted on the Winner's talk page with a note being made to Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Volunteer awards/Awards in the relevant section. No volunteer can be awarded in more than 2 categories on a single award session. However, a volunteer can be awarded the same award thrice in a year.
