I noted the source in the upload comment, but it has since changed. It is lifted from a Department of State website [1]. The page is the same as the original link but the site structure has changed. Note on the image page as well. Blankfaze 16:30, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Uploaded by DonFB (notify | contribs). According to text on the image description page, it was uploaded ony to be used in a talk page (and it's currently only used there). But as the image is marked as fair use, it violates item #9 of Wikipedia:Fair use criteria when used in a talk page. (Altough there's a great chance this image is PD-old already.)- Abu Badali 04:11, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Keep. - Deathrocker 16:56, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Could you elaborate on that? Rememer this is not a vote.--Abu Badali 20:15, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Delete Orphan fair use image. Shouldn't this just have been tagged {{orfud}}? -Nv8200p talk 02:34, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Uploaded by GJRFMorelligu (notify | contribs). Uploader has been blocked for 237 days for image copyright violations. This particular image claims fair use, but the photographer is unknown (and the image description page admits this). Therefore the use of this image violates point 10 of the Wikipedia fair-use policy. —Bkell (talk) 04:22, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Uploaded by Deathrocker (notify | contribs). Easly replicable unfree image of living person. Goes against counterexample #8 on WP:FU#Counterexamples- Abu Badali 08:17, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I need some help here. The uploader has for two times removed the ifd warning from the image description page. --Abu Badali 16:11, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Keep This image is from a reasonable source with a fair use tag. Getting images of living people is not that easy. I have a proble with the WP:FU#Counterexamples guideline on this. That guideline essentially says all fair use images of living people used for identification purposes are not fair use. -Nv8200p talk 16:27, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I'm wrong about this. According to Wikipedia:Fair use criteria, criteria 1 - "No free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information." So I guess some Wikipedian with a camera will have to do a paparazzi on Michael Owen to get an image Wikipedia can use. Sorry Deathrocker. Maybe Abu Badali can do it for you because he says it is easy. -Nv8200p talk 17:36, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunatelly, I live nowhere nearby Newcastle. You guys may want to ask for some help in Wikipedia:UK Wikipedians' notice board. But if Mr Owen ever come to play in my city, I'll do my best to get a picture of him. Thanks for your attention on this issue. --Abu Badali 18:55, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Michael Owen is currently injured until 2007 anyway, so there is no chance of somebody going to a match and taking a free image of him playing till then. So an unfree one will have to do. - Deathrocker 19:32, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Will he be locked in a hospital until 2007? Also, remember that it's always possible to have a kind photographer to release an existing unfree image under a free license. Using an unfree image is just the laziest path, and that's what WP:FUC want's to avoid. --Abu Badali 20:15, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You said it would be easy to come up with a free alternative... when that isn't the case at all here. - Deathrocker 14:20, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Strong Keep, I did search for a free alternative image first, though I could not find one. So I got an image which comes from the league's website, and provided the rational (which Abu Badali keeps covering up, not sure why?) - Deathrocker 16:32, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, but "there is no free recent alternative that I can find" is far from acceptable for fair use rationale. Please read Wikipedia:Fair use. Pagrashtak 21:09, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Strong Delete: Here, go on Flickr [2]. I don't know who this "jess" person is, but if that's really Owen, we have our free image. Hbdragon88 20:39, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's a mannequin. Pagrashtak 21:09, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Haha... yeah, I think its similar to the wax works at Madame Tussauds not the real life Michael Owen. - Deathrocker 14:20, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Delete -- fails WP:FUC. Jkelly 23:09, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Keep, for now. I think this should be kept until a free alternative is found/created and just be tagged it with {{fair use replace}} until then. --Fritz S. (Talk) 13:17, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Deleted. Sorry, this fails WP:FUC #1. Just because you can't find one on Google doesn't mean a free image can't be created. An alternative is to ask someone who has a photo to release it under the GFDL/CC-BY-SA. howcheng {chat} 03:31, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
