4 2024 Indian general election 1,431,879 A series of elections kicked off on April 19 and will conclude on June 1 to elect all 543 members of the Lok Sabha. With 970 million eligible voters, it will be the largest election ever. President Narendra Modi's BJP has a comfortable lead in polls.
5 Baby Reindeer 1,382,236 A black comedy and drama-thriller based on #2's experiences, this miniseries on Netflix received critical acclaim, and topped viewership figures in several countries.
6 Fallout (American TV series) 1,020,486 The famed RPG video games set in a retrofuturistic world ravaged by nuclear war got a Prime Video adaptation, with the story focusing on a Vault Dweller seeking her kidnapped father, a Brotherhood of Steel squire pretending to be a knight, and a Ghoul bounty hunter. Season 1 got big viewership numbers (it's the streamer's second biggest debut after The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) and critical acclaim, and thus a second one has already been greenlit.

8 Shōgun (2024 miniseries) 900,839 April 23 had the tenth and final chapter of this FX on Hulu adaptation of an eponymous 1975 novel by James Clavell, set in 17th century Japan. Shōgun was widely acclaimed and had big streaming viewership numbers (and relatively good ones on cable, given they're not what they used to).
9 Ryan Garcia 860,783 On April 20, the 2021 WBC super lightweight champion went 12 rounds with #17, knocking him down three times and winning in a majority decision. Garcia was ineligible to take the title, due to being three pounds heavy at the weigh-in.

11 Challengers (film) 762,296 After getting its release delayed by the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, this flick, directed by Luca Guadagnino (pictured), regarding a love triangle of tennis players finally hit theaters. Reviews were positive (although this here writer found some parts too slow paced), and the star power of leading lady Zendaya (#25) makes it possible to at least lead the box office for a week.
12 The Tortured Poets Department 708,124 #18's anticipated 11th studio album, which she had announced at the Grammys back in February, was released on April 19th. Only a few hours after the release, the album was expanded into a double album with the surprise release of The Anthology, with an entire second volume of songs.

The album has broken several streaming and sale records, becoming not only the most streamed album on Spotify in a single day (a record previously held by Swift herself), but also the fastest selling album of the 2020s in several countries, alongside dominating several charts.

13 Fallout (series) 675,652 The basis for #6. This here writer had at most played the first game's demo, but liked the show so much he added all the games to his queue.
14 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup 641,843 Asian football fans follow the youth tournament that will determine the continent's representatives at the Olympics.
15 Civil War (film) 626,864 Making its debut on April 21 in theatres in the UK and the US (and worldwide within the week), this British-American dystopian war film follows journalists documenting the next civil war among four factions in the US. A24's most expensive (US$50 million) film to date, it has recouped its budget following favorable reviews for its contemporary political themes and its leading lady, Kirsten Dunst.
16 Arne Slot 613,097 In 2021, this Dutchman became manager of the Feyenoord football club. On April 21, his team only needed to score one goal to win the KNVB Cup, the team's 14th title.
17 Devin Haney 594,933 The WBC super lightweight champion lost a match to #9, but kept his title due to his opponent being 3 pounds too heavy.
18 Taylor Swift 541,537 One week into the release of her latest album (#12), the singer-songwriter's career shows no sign of slowing down, with the album selling more than 1.9 million copies in the U.S., an exceptional feat in the streaming age. Songs from the album claimed the top 14 positions on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, surpassing the previous record of occupying the top 10 set by... Swift herself with Midnights.
19 Abigail (2024 film) 527,980 Melissa Barrera (pictured) continues her scream queen streak playing one of a group of thieves who kidnap a teenager, only to discover the movie they're in is a loose remake of Dracula's Daughter. The bloody thrills of Abigail led to great reviews and opening in second at the box office right behind #15, recouping about of a third of its low $28 million budget in a single weekend.
20 Jessica Gunning 525,971 This English actress had a leading role in #5 as a former lawyer, which she apparently has been good at doing, judging her filmography.
21 Amar Singh Chamkila 446,490 Chamkila was an Indian singer and musician who was assassinated at the height of his fame in 1988. On April 8, a movie about his life starring Diljit Dosanjh (pictured) as Chamkila was released to critical acclaim.
22 Ella Purnell 430,115 This English actress began her career at age 12 in a Drury Lane performance of Oliver!. Six years later, she was the teenaged version of Maleficent in the Disney film. Since then, she has forayed into television, voicing Jinx in Arcane and portraying Lucy MacLean in #6.
23 Deadpool & Wolverine 418,757 A new trailer was released for the sole Marvel Cinematic Universe movie of the year, showing Hugh Jackman back as Logan and the same adult-yet-immature comedy that made the other Deadpool movies so successful. Fans were thrilled, started doing those analyses picking out the trailer's references (such as Cassandra Nova leaving a giant Ant-Man skull) and can't wait for the theatrical release in July.
24 Candidates Tournament 2024 415,004 The chess tournament held to determine the World Chess Championship 2024 ended recently, with Indian chess grandmaster Gukesh D (pictured) winning and becoming the youngest person in history to both win a Candidates Tournament and be a challenger at the WCC. He will be playing against Ding Liren to a best of 14 games later this year.
25 Zendaya 397,870 This year has been good for the American actress. She returned as Chani in Dune: Part Two in a slightly different portrayal than that in the book and sure to return in future films (at least, one more). Zendaya also stars in Challengers (#11), which, as she described, helped shed her younger image to portray a woman closer to her own age (27).
