Presentation, lectures, and assignments designed to introduce students to the basic concepts of mass communication; to foster an understanding of the roles and functions of communication media in our society; to present concepts and principles of journalism; and to prepare students to be intelligent users of media.

Wikipedia assignment

Students will create and write new articles about journalists who have been killed while reporting using inline citation for verificatin. For each journalist, write a statement of notability, and include biographical details, a description of the situation surrounding the death, the political/social context of the country where the journalist was killed, and statements of impact from around the world. Create an infobox and a map. Develop categories for the article.

Updated (2012): Some media organizations are now included. Some journalists are now included who are missing, freed, and living. Some incidents are covered where one or more journalists were killed. Some female journalists from Lebanon are featured.
