  • Support - I moved this image to the top of the page. It is essentially a mini-encyclopedia article by itself and definitely deserves to be shown prominently. ~ ωαdεstεr16«talkstalk» 00:49, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - The image contains misinformation about its subject, Benjamin Banneker. The image states that Banneker was a "city planner", that "he was placed on the commission which surveyed and laid out the city of Washington, D.C.", and that he "constructed the first clock made in America". These statements are not supported by any reliable sources. The first known clockmaker of record in America was Thomas Nash, an early settler of New Haven in 1638.[1] A known American clock was made in 1680.[2] Banneker was born in 1731.[3] Additionally, the image was a Wikipedia Valued Picture Candidate (VPC) in April and May 2008, but was not promoted to VP. (See Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Benjamin Banneker). Corker1 (talk) 19:19, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • Ah, how could it have been a VPC twice last year when VPC only started in December? It was nominated at FPC and was also at PPR. And FWIW failure in a previous nomination doesn't preclude it being renominated. --jjron (talk) 07:03, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • I confused VP and FP when I wrote my comment. My apologies. Note also that the picture was a FP candidate only once last year. The candidacy continued from April into May. The 2008 nominator (Muhammad) is the same as the present nominator. Corker1 (talk) 17:18, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
        • Note that the Alston image is currently within the "Mythology of Benjamin Banneker" section of the "Benjamin Banneker" article. While the image does provide "information relevant to a particular topic" (making it a candidate for VP) when it is in this section, the incorrect and undocumented material in the image should preclude it from promotion to VP. • The caption of the image on this page lacks citations that provide sources for the material in the caption. The caption states that Banneker was a "publisher". This information lacks a reliable source. Banneker authored a series of almanacs, but he was not the publisher of any of these.[3] Corker1 (talk) 01:24, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy close - incorrect material. Intothewoods29 (talk) 20:36, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
