Categories For Discussion: change from Protected areas "of" India to Protected areas "in" India

[edit]

Hi to members of this wikiproject. I have been doing what I thought was non-controversial cleanup work within WikiProject Protected Areas WP:PAREAS on the Protected areas in the United States.

There is an ongoing "Categories For Discussion" proposal to rename a whole bunch of U.S. subcategories to use "Protected areas of" the U.S. or "of" a given U.S. state, rather than "in" the U.S. or subregion. The discussion is here: Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2008 May 9#Categories: Protected areas, National Forests, National Monuments, bird sanctuaries, wildlife sanctuaries of/in the United States. It was pointed out that these renames would be inconsistent with categories in other nations. I plan to expand the CFD proposal, or create a new one, to propose changing "Protected areas of Australia" to "Protected areas in Australia", and the same for other countries. I don't want to step on toes, but this should apply also to rename Category:Protected areas of India to Category:Protected areas in India, and make corresponding changes "of" to "in" for various subcategories, so I want to give you notice here before and/or while I compose the proposal. I will watch / participate in discussion here.

The basic reasoning: "Protected areas" is a designation of a world-wide body, the IUCN, and no nation designates Protected Areas, so I believe that it is proper to describe "Protected areas in" a given nation or subregion, rather than Protected areas of the nation. Nations do designate their own National Parks and National Monuments and so on, so it is proper to say "National Parks of the United States" or other nation, but National Parks are not "of" a subregion so there should be subcategories like National Parks in Alabama (a U.S. state).

The implementation would all be done automatically, by a bot that will implement the rename for all articles in any affected category. A notice of proposed change of category name will be posted in each category, so that adequate notice will be given to anyone maintaining/watching any affected category.

By the way, a big batch of category renames was done for U.S. National Historic Landmarks "of" any given state to National Historic Landmarks "in" the given state, a few months ago.

I hope this should be recognized as an improvement or neutral, and not be problematic. Please do comment! doncram (talk) 01:35, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2008 May 13#Renames of categories for National Parks, Protected Areas, related categories world-wide which proposes renames for various categories of protected areas in India, as well as much more. doncram (talk) 20:31, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kindly assist in developing these articles

TinucherianBot can automatically tag articles with {{WP India}} Banner as {{WP India|class=|importance=}} to the talk page of articles without the project banner. It can also add the workgroup paramaters like "|kerala=yes|kerala-importance=" etc ,if needed. The currently supported workgroups are Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Bengal, Goa, Himachal Pradesh , Karnataka , Punjab, cities, Cinema, Literature, Protected Areas of India, History, Politics, states, Geography,Maps,Districts and Tamil.

If you need so, you need to provide me with the Categories to run the Bot. Due to some technical issues, the Bot will not run recursively to sub-categories. The requester should kindly verify that there are NO non-related articles in the category.
You may request for the bot run on my talk page... Thanks -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 06:38, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My bot will run on the categories in Wikipedia:WikiProject Protected areas of India/AutoTagging regularly or upon request. Should be need any more categories to be added , Discuss here and add them. -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 11:34, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Watchlists

[edit]

To help this workgroup patrol existing articles for vandalism/recent changes, Ganeshbot has created the Wikipedia:WikiProject Protected areas of India/Articles page. This page will be updated on a regular basis. Please do remind me if I forget. :) It contains articles that were tagged with the India banner and fall under the scope of this workgroup. Please let me know in case of any questions. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 11:35, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup listings

[edit]

User:WolterBot has created a Wikipedia:WikiProject Protected areas of India/Cleanup listing page; it contains the articles that fall under the scope this workgroup and have cleanup tags on them. See this page for more information on this works. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 04:04, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

[edit]

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! For the 1.0 Editorial Team, §hepBot (Disable) 21:17, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Protected areas of India

[edit]

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Coordinators' working group

[edit]

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 06:21, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with Infobox Indian Jurisdtction template?

[edit]

Is there a problem with the Indian Jurisdiction infobox? Am presently trying to improve Namdapha National Park article and was looking around for infoboxes to steal, but the good ones (like in Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary & Kaziranga National Park) have some stray code displaying on the top. Can somebody look into this? prashanthns (talk) 08:08, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

Kindly help improve coverage from this area; Separate articles need to be created for (will need good map/satellite images when possible):

1) Greater Rann of Kutch 2) Little Rann of Kutch

NOTE: Also articles for all major wildlife and bird sanctuaries in this area have to be created/improved as and when possible.

  • Indian Wild Ass would be another article from the area. While here might as well improve Kiang, the Tibetan wild ass article, specially it's range and include Ladakh in India as well in Kiang's range.

Unreferenced living people articles bot

[edit]

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Biodiversity, Protected areas & Environment of India/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Biodiversity, Protected areas & Environment of India/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 00:02, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Protected areas of India articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

[edit]

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Protected areas of India articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

I have nominated Kaziranga National Park for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. WikiProject cleanup listing

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). Changing the scope of WikiProject Protected Areas of India

[edit]

Hello everyone,

I want to start a discussion about WikiProject Protected Areas of India. We do not have too much activity in the group and the number of articles that this WikiProject looks after is also very small (only 442 as per date).

We have another issue, we do not have any Task Force to deal with green issues, biodiversity or environment.

So I propose that WikiProject Protected Areas of India becomes WikiProject Biodiversity, Protected areas & Environment of India with an enlarged scope.

Please comment below. AshLin (talk) 17:55, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As the original creator of this Wikiproject, I would support the above proposal by AshLin. Lets make the group working. Amartyabag TALK2ME 18:21, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Although I am not a member of this taskforce (but WikiProject Protected areas), the proposal makes sense to me, given that besides its currently small scope there is also full overlap with WikiProject Protected areas. --ELEKHHT 22:34, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In the absence of any dissenting voice, I take it as accepted & shall start making the changes. AshLin (talk) 10:36, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nauradehi - potential merger candidate?

[edit]

Hi, I created the article Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary, thinking it didn't exist, but I recently discovered that the article Noradehi. Would this be a good candidate for a merger/move? Nauradehi seems like the more popular and accurate spelling, and the article "Noradehi" concerns the wildlife sanctuary only.

Also, it would be great for all the talk of Nauradehi concerning Cheetah Reintroduction in India to link to the proper article. Thanks! Abp47 (talk) 20:55, 11 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject X is live!

[edit]

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

[edit]

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Merge discussion for Ghughua Fossil Park & Mandla Plant Fossils National Park

[edit]

From what I can find Mandla Plant Fossils National Park seems to be a made up park, probably created by the initial article author, A quick look at google maps shows that the purported location of the park is actually the location of the Ghughua Fossil Park. I suggest either wholesale deletion of this article, or redirection and history merge into Ghughua Fossil Park. I'm notifying recent editors of that article and relevant wkiprojects.--Kevmin § 01:29, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
