Ames process
The Ames process was developed during the Manhattan Project to refine uranium. Left to right:
  • Pressure vessel containing uranium halide and sacrificial metal being lowered into a furnace
  • After the reaction, remnant slag in the container
  • Uranium metal "biscuit" end product
