Review request[edit]
Hello @1AmNobody24:, could you review Draft:Battle of Gochouri and Draft:Battle of Akhaltsikhe (1444) articles? Thank you 179.6.7.67 (talk) 23:08, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi 179.6.7.67, thanks for the request. I took a look at the drafts and while they look good to me, I sadly don't know enough about military history articles to say if the drafts are good. Nobody (talk) 05:28, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Question from Staffscribbles (05:07, 20 May 2024)[edit]
Hi 1AmNobody24! I'm currently in the process of writing an article about a Swedish jazz fusion band called Hawk on Flight. The draft for the article (WIP) is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Hawk_on_Flight. Before making an account, I wrote this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scope_(Dutch_band) . Since I'm still confused about references and sources, I would like to ask a bunch of things:
- I've been told that album releases need to have references. What sources could I use for that? In this case, would using the record label's website as a source be considered acceptable?
- Is it possible to use YouTube videos as references for TV broadcasts? Even though I used proper sources to justify other broadcasts related to the band, there's some 1981 footage of them playing one of their compositions, which at the time hadn't been released. This video seems to have been recoded from Norwegian TV, but I can't find any Norwegian articles that mention this.
- Aside from the sources that I've already used, do you have any recommendations? I can't find any way to access Swedish newspaper/magazine scans, even after having signed up to the waiting list for the Swedish Wikipedia's Mediearkivet page.
Please have in mind that most of the article still lacks references, which I need to justify many of the things I wrote. Thanks in advance. --Staffscribbles (talk) 05:07, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Staffscribbles, the quality of sources is determined by their reliability. The record labels website can be considered reliable for the album releases, so would be past chart rankings if the albums made it. Youtube videos are generally considered not reliable (RSPYT). The problem with the lack of sources of the TV broadcasts can sometimes be explained due to lacking notability. As for other sources: CDs can be added as a sources using {{Cite AV media}} and Offline sources in general are probably the best way. Nobody (talk) 06:50, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks! I removed the 1981 broadcast from the article and included record label websites, but I still have some questions to ask:
- - Many of the record labels mentioned in the article are defunct, and most of the ones that are not tend to omit any mention of the band in their websites for no apparent reason. Having this in mind, I might have to resort to using offine sources to prove the existence of the albums. How could I handle referencing them? The article that explains it is a bit vague, and since most people on Wikipedia might not have a physical copy of those CDs/vinyls - myself included - the odds of my article getting rejected could be higher.
- - What sources could I use to justify claims that are mainly related to musical styles? The Norwegian sources I used for references outside of TV broadcasts are all from the early 80s and don't offer an in-depth description of the group's musical style at the time. Of course, Norwegian newspapers past this period rarely mention the band, since Haakon Graf, the only Norwegian member, left the group in 1982. Like I've previously said, I don't have access to Swedish newspapers and magazines to look for reviews, which I'd need to justify claims such as "This album has a style closer to jazz as well as a more accessible sound featuring typical timbres found in 80s music, such as Yamaha's DX7 synthesizer".
- - Are there any issues with my current references? I would appreciate some feedback.
- If there's anything else you would like to point out about the article in its current state, feel free to tell me. Staffscribbles (talk) 17:43, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- - Using offline sources for uncontroversial things will most likely not be challenged. But it's true that some won't count towards the notability requirements (Notability, NMUSIC), which is the reason most drafts are rejected.
- I also don't know how those are normally referenced. You could ask for help at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Musicians or at the Help desk as they probably have some better advice for you.
- The current sources are quite good, especially the newspapers. If you have time you could add|quote=
and|trans-quote=
to some (not all, only the most important ones, due to copyright concerns) as it would make it easier for non-swedish speaking users to verify the information from them (See Cite_news#Quote on how to use them)
Be sure that all information in the Lead and infobox is referenced somewhere in the article. If you know all the Members years when they joined and left you could add a Timeline in the article (Example: HammerFall). Nobody (talk) 06:04, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

- New changes have been made to the UploadWizard in Wikimedia Commons: the overall layout has been improved, by following new styling and spacing for the form and its fields; the headers and helper text for each of the fields was changed; the Caption field is now a required field, and there is an option for users to copy their caption into the media description. [2][3]
Changes later this week

- The HTML used to render all headings is being changed to improve accessibility. It will change on 22 May in some skins (Timeless, Modern, CologneBlue, Nostalgia, and Monobook). Please test gadgets on your wiki on these skins and report any related problems so that they can be resolved before this change is made in all other skins. The developers are also considering the introduction of a Gadget API for adding buttons to section titles if that would be helpful to tool creators, and would appreciate any input you have on that.

Hello. Is there a place to get all the rules in editing? How do you put in a reference when replacing one vs adding a new reference? --JulesJDT (talk) 21:11, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @JulesJDT, You can take a look at Policies and guidelines and the Wikipedia:Manual of Style to learn about the rules. You can see how the reference needs to look at Cite web. Nobody (talk) 05:12, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
Question from Jaden21.10 (00:09, 23 May 2024)[edit]
Hey, I have a question how does Wikipedia get new articles? Is there a way for any user to put a new article on the site or is it strictly determined through some algorithm? Also if I might ask what this algorithm is. --Jaden21.10 (talk) 00:09, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hey I managed to resolve my matter so I'll change my question to format. Do I need a specific format can I use something like MLA format or do I need the format that seems to be the Wikipedia format? --Jaden21.10 (talk) 00:24, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Jaden21.10, You can learn about that at MOS:LAYOUT. Also know that everything must be sourced and unsourced additions are likely to be deleted. Nobody (talk) 05:16, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

reorganizing the order of paragraphs on a current page[edit]
Hi 1AmNobody24. On Tuesday (5/23) I tried splitting a current heading into 2 paragraphs. I copied and pasted the way to make headings and updated the paragraph content as Arlene Harris desired. Later I also want to move that paragraph to the bottom of her page. The Bot said I have a heading error. I also updated two references and those references were numbered the same as those they replaced. How do you get the references in the right order? Do you have to start typing at the top to get references in the right order? Or maybe list them in the order they are included on the page? Thank you! JulesJDT (talk) 17:43, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Jules, In your earlier edit you added
[21]
to the reference while changing it, which created an error. It was fixed in the following edit. In your second edit you added the references without the|title=
parameter which is required in all references. You can see in this diff the improvements made to your references. You might also want to check out Introduction to referencing with VisualEditor to learn more about adding and changing references. Nobody (talk) 18:11, 30 May 2024 (UTC)- I would like very much to use the VisualEditor but my version of the Editor looks different. There is no option to do automatic edits. In the google version it says Edit Source not Editor. I have used google for all my edits. Will the number of the reference change if I rearrange the information on the Wikipedia page? I want to move some references to other areas because the current page asks for more references in a section that doesn't have any. Thank you so much#24! JulesJDT (talk) 16:59, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi there,
one of the pages I am trying to edit has a title of Brandon Mall, however we just rebranded the name as Brandon Exchange, what is the best way to change the name of the page. I read about different possibilities but wondering which is the best option --Davidbeersisme (talk) 18:07, 4 June 2024 (UTC)

While comments are always welcome if they include new information, only administrators should be declining reports at UAA. I've also noticed you replying to some reports by the bot, which isn't particualrly helpful either. UAA does not have clerks, the idea that it should have them has been repeatedly rejected. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 17:08, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @JSS, I can agree with the first part, but stronly disagree with the second part. If I see that the bot reported account is block evading, an LTA, or has done something that shows their username violates policy I'll reply so a patrolling administrator knows what to look for, calling that not helpful makes no sense to me. Nobody (talk) 18:33, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- Each report is reviwed by an admin the same way regardless of any such comments. The bot only reports very new users so it usually literally only takes a few seconds to review each report. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 19:20, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- That doesn't mean it's not helpful if the issue is already pointed out and I've noticed that those reports are often patrolled faster than others. Nobody (talk) 19:30, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
- @JSS I've sent you a mail explaining myself a bit more. Nobody (talk) 05:30, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting you're in any kind of trouble or anything, and the truth is there isn't actually a rule anywhere that says not to comment on bot reports. It's just that I've been working at UAA a very long time and have never felt such comments helped me come to a decision, as the only consideration there is whether or not the name is a blatant violation. Just Step Sideways from this world ..... today 20:01, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
