2022 Oakland party shooting

On October 1, 2022, four teenagers were shot at a party in Northside Oakland, California, US, two fatally. The two teenagers that were killed were brothers Jazy Sotelo Garcia and Angel Garcia, ages 15 and 17, Berkeley residents. At least one suspect has been arrested since the attack occurred, and the case is still proceeding in terms of legal action. Authorities said the two boys killed were not believed to be gang members or gang affiliated, but that the alleged shooter had gang ties. The shooting was speculated by Alameda County authorities to be due to a matters between the two boys killed and the suspected shooter, that occurred at a school. Two suspects have been arrested, one shooter an done accomplice, and the Alameda County district attorney's office plans to try the suspects in juvenile court, which mean that the maximum they may face is seven years imprisonment in juvenile custody.[1][2]

The shooting took place at a house rented as an Airbnb.

Suspects[edit]

In total, three suspects were arrested in connection with the shooting: two alleged gunmen, and one suspected accomplice. Two suspects, both aged 17 at the time of the shooting, were arrested in March 2023; those suspects have been identified as Joaquin Godoy and Jesse Moreno, both Oakland residents at the time of the shooting. They both have alleged Norteno gang membership, belonging to an East Bay Area faction of the gang. One of the suspected shooters was also suspected of having involvement in another mass shooting which killed one person and wounded 6 others at a rap music video shoot in Oakland, that occurred in 2023.[3]
