On 13 April 2024 heavy rains caused a ravine to collapse into a river in Dibaya-Lubwe, Kwilu Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo, leaving at least 15 dead, seven injured and 50-60 missing.[1][2]

On 13 April 2024, heavy rains caused a large section of a ravine to collapse into the river below, burying many people and striking a boat that was docking at the time.[1]

Poor urban planning and poor infrastructure in Congo are vulnerable to torrential rainfall.[3]
