Acted is a French international solidarity NGO, founded in 1993. It is headquartered in Paris.

Acted pursues a triple mandate as a player in humanitarian aid, the environment and development, contributing to the assistance, stabilization and long-term recovery of people affected by crises.[2]

Acted has signed the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and for Non-Governmental Organizations in Disaster Relief.

Acted is certified by the “Comité de la Charte du Don en Confiance”, an organization that monitors the financial responsibility of non-profits.[3]

Action[edit]

The organization works with 20.7 million people around the world (in 2020).[4]

The NGO is guided by its tagline "Think local, Act global", reflecting the need to rely on an in-depth understanding of territories and local contexts to develop and implement actions that are based on knowledge, structures and local capacities.[5]

Since 2020, Acted has been implementing a “3ZERO” strategy in order to work towards a Zero Poverty, Zero Carbon and Zero Exclusion world.

Countries of intervention[edit]

As of November 2023, Acted is present in Afghanistan, Armenia, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Colombia, Central African Republic, Chad, Colombia, Congo (Rep.), Dem. Rep. Congo, Ethiopia, Haiti, Iraq, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Moldova, Myanmar, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, occupied Palestinian Territory, Pakistan, Philippines, Senegal, Somalia, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Yemen.[6]

History[edit]

Beginnings[edit]

Acted was created in 1993, in Peshawar, Afghanistan, by Marie-Pierre Caley and Frederic Roussel[7]. First, the organization used mapping to support local humanitarian actors in order to better understand territorial solidarity. The Afghan humanitarian crisis pushes the organization to start its own humanitarian actions.

In order to meet the food and heating needs in Kabul, Acted is helping the local population to revive the coal mines located in the nearby mountains with the help of the World Food Program. Through these mines, the population of Kabul has able to heat themselves and restart the production in bakeries in order to feed the city.

Subsequently, Acted expanded to the rest of Central Asia, to Tajikistan (1996), Uzbekistan (1999), Kyrgyzstan (2000) and Pakistan (2005).
