Amália Scudeler de Barros Santos (22 March 1985 – 12 May 2024) was a Brazilian journalist and politician, affiliated with the Liberal Party (PL). She served as federal deputy for Mato Grosso from 2023 to 2024.

Biography[edit]

A trained journalist, in 2021 Barros published the book Se Enxerga!: Transforme desafios em grandes oportunidades para você e outras pessoas, in which she tells her story of losing an eye due to complications from toxoplasmosis.[1]

Barros began her political career in 2022, when she ran for the position of federal deputy and gained notoriety due to the support of then-first lady Michelle Bolsonaro, reaching 70,294 votes and managed to be elected.[2][3][4] After her death, Nelson Barbudo was confirmed as her successor on the Chamber of Deputies, since he was the first alternate of the Liberal Party in the state. He took office on 21 May 2024.[5]

Death[edit]

Barros died on 12 May 2024, at the age of 39. She had been hospitalized since 1 May, when she was hospitalized to undergo surgery to remove a nodule in her pancreas.[6]
