Auvergne, Arkansas

Auvergne is a community in Jackson County, Arkansas, United States. It had a train depot that was destroyed in an 1894 storm. Dr. M. M. Erwin lived in the community. It had a post office. The Arkansas legislature passed a bill restricting the distribution of spirits in the Town of Auvergne.[1]

The area was a hub of agriculture and timber industries and contains a graveyard.[2][3] Pickens Black Jr owned a farm in the area and was the second African American pilot to be licensed to fly in the United States.[4][5]

Colonel James T. Henderson raised jersey cattle in the area.[6]
