Category:Minor planet object redirects (non-primary)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This category contains all pages of non-primary minor-planet designations (see description of the term below). Items, all of them are redirects by definition, are sorted by pagename and are automatically added when the page contains {{NASTRO comment|do-not-cat=yes}} or {{Partial minor planet designation}}. For redirects on both numbered and unnumbered primary minor-planet designations, see parent category. Contrary to their primary counterparts, do not add any categories to non-primary minor-planet redirects manually, to avoid double classification (hence the NASTRO-parameter's name).

Context

Due to the overwhelmingly large number of minor planet objects, all redirects are divided into two basic types: primary and non-primary minor-planet designations. A redirect of a primary designation is suited as article (if the object becomes notable). On the other hand, a redirect of a non-primary designation is basically never suited for an article: it either redirects to the (already existing) article about the object, or to another target (typically to an anchored list such as in LoMP or MoMP) with its primary redirect given in "{{R avoided double redirect}}" (best-practice only). Types of non-primary designations include, but are not limited to:

These are often used in combination with:

  • {{R avoided double redirect}} — if the primary designation is also a redirect, and
  • {{R from move}} — if the page was moved to a new primary designation (upon numbering, naming or correction).
