Offline mail readers are a class of computer programs that download email messages and the allow them to be edited while "offline". In the past when email systems were accessed using terminal programs over modems, offline readers were a major class of systems that helped lower online time. Many modern email systems offer this feature as a side-effect of the way they work, but offline readers generally also supported internet forums as well as private email.
