Category:Orangutan conservation

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Of the two species of orangutan, the Bornean orangutan is endangered and the Sumatran orangutan is critically endangered. Orangutan habitat destruction due to logging, mining and forest fires, as well as fragmentation by roads, has increased rapidly. Orangutans are also hunted and sold illegally as pets. A number of organisations and individuals are involved in the rescue, rehabilitation and release of hundreds of orphan orangutans and orangutans whose habitat has been destroyed through deforestation.
