This category is a bit under-populated; can it be expanded?--Runcorn 11:52, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have added all remaining articles. - Darwinek 00:31, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Asia or Oceania?[edit]

Every reference I have (and I have several) either makes Australia its own continent, places it in Oceania, or places it in Australasia (which is "South of Asia", and is a sub-set of Oceania, not part of Asia). No geographical system I'm aware of puts Australia in Asia. Besides the Wikipedia articles example, see the U. N. categorization here. I see no reason at all to have this category be a sub-category of Asia; I'm going to revert it back to Oceania. I would ask that anyone who wishes to class it in Asia, to please supply a referenced rational. Perhaps there really is a large part of the world that considers Australia to be part of Asia, but I'm unaware of it. Maybe I'm about to learn something. It occurred to me to look at the confederations that the FIFA world is divided into, turns out Australia is in fact part of the AFC (Asian Football Confederation), so putting Australia under Asia wasn't quite as wacky as I had thought originally; to someone intimately aware of international football it makes perfect sense. However, I'll still argue for putting Australia in Oceania in Wikipedia, based on standard geography, since the average Wikipedia reader is not so aware of the arbitrary divisions of the football world. If it does move back under "Asia", I'd argue that the it should be under something like "Asian Football Confederation biography stubs". The confederations don't really follow standard geography; Armenia and Israel are in UEFA, but neither country is in Europe. I think classing the stubs based on the confederations and not standard geography is just a little too "in universe", as it were, for a general encyclopedia. Just found this one, why not put it in both? Asia=confederation, Oceania=physical geography. No harm in putting it in both here. SeveroTC 13:16, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
