A note by an editor to the Xhosa category suggests merging the African languages - which currently include 1 Xhosa, 1 Yoruba, 2 for Zulu and 1 for Afrikaans. If Afrikaans was excluded on linguistic grounds the category would be "into Niger-Congo languages" In ictu oculi (talk) 02:42, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
For that matter, what about Amharic? Mande languages? These are all African, and I see them listed on the Category page. "African Languages" is not a linguistic grouping at all, any more than "Asian" or "European". There is indeed a subCategory:Translators of the Bible into indigenous languages of the Americas, but I don't think that should be taken as a precedent, especially for purely geographical groupings. "Into Niger-Congo languages" makes perfect sense; "into African languages" does not. Thnidu (talk) 06:36, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
