Overcategorization[edit]

Just a note that this category may qualify as too small per WP:SMALL as it may never have more than a few members. The only reason there are any members is due to an edit-a-thon by the WikiProject WomenInRed. dawnleelynn(talk) 21:18, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:SMALL: "unless such categories are part of a large overall accepted sub-categorization scheme, such as subdividing songs in Category:Songs by artist or flags in Category:Flags by country."
The reason it has members is that such people exist and are notable, and other Wikipedians have chosen to write about them. Please remember that you do not own Wikipedia's coverage of rodeo. PamD 05:35, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
And who's to say that this category "May never have more than a few members"? Some Canadians apparently barrel-race, why do you assume that no more will do so? If there is a category for American barrel racers, then it is appropriate for there to be categories for all other relevant nationalities. PamD 16:35, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OK people. Time to assume good faith here. Everyone here is a good person and this was just a simple question that deserved a kind answer, not snark about “ownership.” Smallcats are confusing, I was absolutely slapped silly for creating some smallcats a few years ago, and the exceptions are pretty much only a thing the specialists notice. So let’s all try to be a little kinder here, Montanabw(talk) 17:03, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, prior to any category work being done, I stated I was not in favor of a breakdown to countries in the category discussion. I made that note because no Canadian articles had ever been written in Wikipedia’s history until an editathon and none have been written since. If you read the policy, do you think the category will ever grow significantly and I don’t. Btw, I have also been on the other side and helped saved some small categories in CfD. dawnleelynn(talk) 17:40, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Check the Ladies barrel racing section of the List of Canadian Rodeo Champions. There aren’t that many and lots are multiple winners. And many are not highly notable, meaning they won’t have enough coverage for an article. dawnleelynn(talk) 20:45, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ps The Canadian barrel racing event is only for women. The event is also called “Ladies barrel racing” not as the new category states “Barrel racing”. dawnleelynn(talk) 21:36, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
pss None of this is said in an effort to change your mind. I'm adding in the support for WP:SMALL that I should have added in the first place, that's all. So you wouldn't have had to use your imagination or think that I was just acting contrary. dawnleelynn(talk) 23:28, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
