Definition of this category?[edit]

The category seems unclear at present. Is it about "connectors" (i.e. physical and electrical standards for connector jacks) or is it more about logical "connections", i.e. the functional purposes carried out by these devices?

Given the entries included so far, such as Ethernet rather than RJ-45 (and many similar examples), I believe the original editor's purpose was more about the logical function, not the physical description. In terms of encyclopedic utility, this is also the more useful - it is a better fit to the "computer" qualifier, rather than the broad scope of physical jack standards, or the narrow scope for the particular formats used on PCs vs. Macs. Given the category creator's description, "This category is for Electrical connectors to computer ports", it seems pretty clear that it was intended to be about connectORS. Jeh (talk) 17:25, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Category creators are often unclear in their wording - and indeed, we're not required to keep such things carved in stone. If we look instead at the articles they chose to add here, e.g. Computer port (hardware), then these are at the more functional level. The real point is not what anyone may or may not have intended it to mean (past tense), but where we go forwards as the most useful meaning. Andy Dingley (talk) 17:29, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
