how is Stephen King a Mythos writer? I was always under the impression that he was simply influenced by Lovecraft, especially since he has tied together most of his work into a Mythos of his own, The Dark Tower.

A: "Crouch End", "Jerusalem's Lot" and "Salem's Lot" are Stephen King's Lovecraft cycle stories. The Dark Tower has little to do with it.

B: "Gramma" from Skeleton Crew is also Mythos-related.

Overreach[edit]

Many of the writers listed in this category have not written books set in the Cthulhu Mythos. They may have written books inspired by Lovecraft's work, or books that are in conversation with said work, but that's not the same thing at all. Cthulhu Mythos writers should mean people who have written works that are officially or otherwise explicitly set in Lovecraft's universe and are a continuation thereof. It's especially weird to see authors whose works are criticising Lovecraft's work or aspects of it being included as 'Cthulhu Mythos writers'.

To look at it another way, the way the category is at the moment is functionally no different to having a category called "Vampyre Mythos writers" and including every author since Polidori who has written about vampires. H. Carver (talk) 00:58, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
