Standardisation[edit]

Should probably be standardised as "Episcopal Conference of X". Chicbyaccident (talk) 13:45, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Many episcopal conferences like the USCCB and CBCI have their names defined that way in English. I think we have to stick to those names. Do you propose to move those also to Episcopal Conference of the United States and Episcopal Conference of India? For conferences that do not have names defined in English, probably we should use the translation of the names, eg. CEF translates to 'Conference of Bishops of France', while the Spain's conference's name translates as 'Spanish Episcopal Conference'. The Discoverer (talk) 07:36, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Quite a few entries have been updated taking into account prevalence of naming in papal communication published on the official website of the Holy See, while also weighting in WP:CONSISTENCY in evaluating total availability of sources. Chicbyaccident (talk) 23:24, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It is imperative that articles for conferences that have names defined in English use the name defined, e.g. CBCI, FABC, CBCV. This we can determine based on the name of the website, and the name on the letterheads of documents issued by the conferences. I have already reverted a few moves and will proceed with the remaining.
In other cases, where the name is defined in a language other than English, the practice until now was to translate the name exactly. E.g. the Spanish 'Conferencia del Episcopado Dominicano' was translated in English as 'Conference of the Dominican Episcopate'. In such cases, even though I disagree, you can have your way and go ahead with your standardisation drive. The Discoverer (talk) 14:39, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Very well. Chicbyaccident (talk) 14:47, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have also noted that in spite of your proposal to standardise 'Episcopal Conference of X' being explicitly rejected, you have pushed ahead with this standardisation drive, even citing this failed proposal as the move reason in some cases. Taking this into account, I have also moved conferences that have 'bishops' in their names in their respective languages back to the original article titles. The Discoverer (talk) 18:25, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps a few of them were prematurely attended to. Thanks for helping. Chicbyaccident (talk) 19:05, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
