Posthumously restored[edit]

Why are people whose memberships were posthumously restored not permitted in this list? If people left the church voluntarily and never attempted to re-join, that ought to be reflected in categorization Fledchen 00:15, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed[edit]

I agree and have edited the page to reflect the change. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Montypics (talkcontribs) 18:51, 12 December 2005

The point of that was not to exclude people who left the church voluntarily and never attempted to re-join. I am not personally aware of anyone who left the church voluntarily, never attempted to re-join, and had his or her membership posthumosly restored. If you know of any cases of this, I would be interested in hearing about it. Rather, I wanted to exclude people like the two specific examples I gave, John W. Taylor and John D. Lee. These were people who were excommunicated by the church, but considered themselves faithful. Apparently the hierarchy agreed in retrospect, since it restored their membership. Categorized[edit]

I added Category:People by former religion as I think that fits. Hopefully I'll resist temptation to edit for a time.--T. Anthony 07:31, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

References?[edit]

I've never heard a single validated source that Christina Aguilera is or ever was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints... We need references for names on this list.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Yrthegood1staken (talkcontribs) 15:53, 13 April 2007

I've raised this issue at her article. I don't know much about her, but the claim seems to be based on some online discussions about Brigham Young University alumni. There's some evidence her parents met as students at BYU and, by a progression from there, that that makes her born a Mormon. However I didn't see anything saying definitively that even her parents were Mormon, just that if they went to BYU they'd "have to be" as it's 99% Mormon. There was even less on them being Mormon in her childhood, by less I mean virtually nothing. Even her third-grade teacher said she'd never heard that.--T. Anthony 10:27, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

pend.

I will remove people for whom their former adherence is a not a defining characteristic. See Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2007_July_23#People_by_former_religion —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andries (talkcontribs) 13:25, 29 July 2007

People should not be included in categories such as this unless their former religion is notable in relation to both of Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion. Wikipedia:Categorization of people states:

Category tags regarding religious beliefs and sexual preference should not be used unless two criteria are met:
  • The subject publicly self-identifies with the belief or preference in question;
  • The subject's beliefs or sexual preferences are relevant to the subject's notable activities or public life, according to reliable published sources.

Criteria for inclusion[edit]

I'm interested in how to clarify List of former Latter Day Saints. Input is welcome over at Talk:List of former Latter Day Saints#Restart: Criteria for inclusion. ——Rich jj (talk) 14:34, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
