Articles in this category should be moved to subcategories when appropriate.

At present, en:'s rules about duplicate categorization indicate that if a person is already in a subcategory of Category:German people, they don't need to be filed directly in Category:German people as well. The result of doing so is that you end up with far more categories on the article than necessary, especially if you don't stop at Category:German people, but add Category:People as well, and then start doing the same for occupational categories as well (e.g. should Klaus Wowereit be added to Category:Mayors of places in Germany, Category:German politicians, Category:Mayors and Category:Politicians on top of the fact that he's already in Category:Mayors of Berlin? The answer to that is no.)

You may disagree with the existing rules, and you're free to propose a change to them if you'd like, but as long as the rules are what they are it's not really appropriate to simply ignore them just because you disagree with them. Bearcat (talk) 20:14, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To foo or not to foo[edit]

Note: I removed Template:fooian people for the German category. 3 reasons: It doesn't show the correct main article ("Germans", not "German people"), the used categorization jargon is more confusing than helping for anyone not experienced in internal category structures, and the template doesn't actually categorize anything (as other foo templates would do).
