It is probably worth adding a section about this term somewhere in a Wikipedia article. Meanwhile I will add a brief definition here based on [1][2].

I created this category in 2012 to separate the contents from the rest of Category:Infrastructure which is for physical infrastructure; see Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2015_January_2#Category:Physical_infrastructure for a later decision endorsing that. – Fayenatic London 14:00, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
