how do you edit this page?

Alter the text on the individual pages - you'll find [[Category:Internet service providers]] at the end. that can be changed/replaced with a better category if you think it needs changing. Ian3055 12:04, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have had a go at making this page work better geographically, have added a category for US ISPs but some may have slipped through being moved. Ian3055 12:04, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Categorization discussion notice[edit]

There is a discussion going on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_March_17#Internet_providers_standardization to settle the "in country" / "of country" nomenclature. The discussion is a CFD, so it should run for 7 days from the timestamp on this message. --Syrthiss 20:32, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The people contributing to that debate have completely missed the point. The idea of using 'in' instead of 'of' is to tell people what companies are operating in what countries. It's not ideal at all to just say where the company has come from. People need to be informed as to which ISPs are operating in their country and their background (of) so that they can get the best deal possible and make an informed choice.

For example if we were talking about oil corporations, one might want to know that a green company is in operation in their country and the level of its operation in relation to other corps, this would enable that person to make an informed choice as to which oil company to choose, they would be armed with information as to all the providers in their country so they could get the best deal too.

categorisinig companies as to where they originate in the absence of where they operate is misinforming consumers as to the nature of in this case the telecommunications industry in their country, how much foreign ownership there is etc etc etc. These categories help people recieve this information.
