Move sub cat[edit]

This category is deeply flawed. Most of the people listed under "Irish Canadian" were NOT Irish emmigrants, but were born in diaspora. The nomeclature is misleading, and unless some one gives me a reasonable objection I will correct it shortly. Kevlar67 12:09, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

and Irish Americans too. but how aren t diaspora a kind of emigrants? - separated diaspora must have a sub-category link to emigrants at large. and i see separating diaspora and non-diaspora as over-categorisation. Mayumashu 05:06, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I think a better solution is to limit this category strictly to people born in Ireland who moved to other coutries, and simply link to the "Irish-Canadian" and "Irish-American" categories, but do not include them as sub-categories of this category. Clearly the two groups are related, but most of the families of Irish heritage in Newfoundland, for example, have been their since the 1700s. They are not "emigrants" or "expats" in any sense of the term. Kevlar67 13:21, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
you re right. naming a cat page Category:Irish emigrants to Canada and making it a sub-cat of this page as well as Category:Irish Canadians would work. another way which would avoid spliting emigrants with other non-emigrants of descent would be to rename this cat page Category:People of Irish descent abroad Mayumashu 22:05, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I like your ideas. Either rename this cat, or simply create new sub-cats. Kevlar67 06:45, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
started up sub-cat and sorted Irish Canadians A thru L Mayumashu 12:19, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good work. This is much more acurate. Kevlar67 07:46, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, at least Canadians now are sorted by emigrant or descendant Mayumashu 12:59, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
