Not a military conflict[edit]

Not a military conflict. This category doesn't belong in Mexican Drug War. Mason (talk) 13:42, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@AHI-3000 here is where I explained it. Please stop edit warring during a discussion. Mason (talk) 19:18, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smasongarrison: Not a military conflict you claim? The Mexican military's job these days is mostly to fight with drug cartels. Besides, the Mexican Drug War is included in the List of ongoing armed conflicts. AHI-3000 (talk) 19:49, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This seems like a reach. Arms conflicts includes more than just military conflicts. My interpretation of a military conflict is that it involves conflicts between two militaries. Mason (talk) 19:58, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smasongarrison: Well that's just your interpretation. Besides, if Category:Victims of the Mexican Drug War is a subcategory of Category:Deaths by war, then this category can go under Category:Journalists killed while covering military conflicts. If a war between a state military and a bunch of illegal paramilitary groups isn't a de facto military conflict, then what qualifies as one?
For what it's worth, Category:Wars involving Mexico includes Category:Mexican drug war as a subcategory, List of wars involving Mexico includes it too, and again it's mentioned on List of ongoing armed conflicts. It's not just me, this is your personal interpretation going against the grain of common consensus on this wiki. AHI-3000 (talk) 20:19, 21 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AHI-3000 Please stop edit warring. You're overgeneralizing, and making assumptions. two problems: 1) not alll the people are assassinated, and 2) not all of these people are mexican. IF you want to narrow the scope, then propose a rename. I'll concede that this is effectively a military conflict. However, I don't think we should be assuming that there's political intent or that everyone in this category is Mexican. Mason (talk) 01:08, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smasongarrison: While I still think these are assassinations, but if not all the journalists here are Mexican citizens, then fair enough. AHI-3000 (talk) 03:18, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Great, so let's just leave the category as is (a.k.a. no assassinated journalists, but have them in Journalists killed while covering military conflicts). Sound like a reasonable compromise? Mason (talk) 03:25, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Smasongarrison Yeah we can leave it at this. AHI-3000 (talk) 06:15, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
